Luka Modrić and AC Milan have slayed another Italian giant! This weekend it was Inter Milan 1-0 in the Derby. AC Milan have now defeated Inter, Roma and Napoli (while drawing Juventus) to start the season. With the win, they only trail Roma by two points points 12 matches into the season. Modrić played the full 90 minutes in the match and received a 7/10 grade from SempreMilan as he had “A lot of the talk before the game was about his passing and vision, but given how Inter played and limited him at times, it was more so about defending today. We got to see a lot of key defensive interventions from him tonight, especially in the second half. And as always, the fact Inter wanted to keep him quiet opened up space for others.”

Joško Gvardiol and Manchester City had a rough day at the office Saturday in a 2-1 loss to Newcastle at St. James’ Park. I watched the Ajax game there is no way any Ajax midfielder should be rated above the defense. They did nothing at home against a team that also is really shitty.
The part that makes me go hmmm is Sutalo hides, Sutalo has 2nd most successful dribbles def not hiding , successful long passes clearnces and short passes on the season.
However if all game you as a defender is consistently moving the ball up and trying and also getting countered on eventually you make mistakes. Ajax at the moment are barely a Europa competition team never mind champions league. They have Zero midfield presence and as a defender you will get burned.
That 2nd goal i can point out to 5 mistakes but lets troll Sutalo.

If you’re a defender – you job is to DEFEND – not run and hide – and “cover” a guy that has zero impact on the play lol
So that’s two mistakes for both goals – he’s 1000% responsible for both
Additionally, Ajax pundits/fans on X all say Sutalo is the WORST signing the club has ever made and want him sold for whatever peanuts they can go (I doubt they will find a buyer for him – but I guess they can try?)

Baturina awareness and anticipation leading up to getting the ball for the dribble/goal was 10/10 – really impressive – he looks leaner and faster in the sprint (although the defence was probably tired by then) – the dribble and nice finish with weaker left foot – only had a couple other touches but looked engaged
Overall still seems shy and lacking confidence – hopefully the goals helps with that
Also – for the first time – Baturina came on to replace Paz – like for like

Vlasic needs a change of scenery. He’s capable of having a breakout season in a strong league, but hasn’t really made the right career moves so far. Very underrated player
1- No one is screaming off the rooftop for Basic to get called. When your a small nation and numbers are small every player is considered. With L. Sucic and baturina not playing this has left a void. We will always be a few injury away from lack of depth.
In one year we went from kova playing healthy, sucicx2 and baturina playing feeling good with these guys and a aging modric everyone like the status of our midfielders.
Now Kovacic big question mark L.Sucic Baturina not getting minutes. Things have changed fast.
2- No one cares about jedvaj cause it’s not a serious option. He isn’t a good right back and that’s all he can play on the repka. He unfortunately isn’t blessed with size and strength which is his down fall for CB and he will get injured again between now and WC.
3- Also I’m sorry Musa behind roko simic? Best thing that happened last week was musa playing and doing well. I think this was by far the most underrated and under appreciated thing that could have happened for repka leading to the WC. On Vlasic – why is his dad coming out to the press – and making excuses that coaches have mis-played/mis-profiled his son for his entire career – and he hasn’t been able to show his potential yet ?
Basic is consistent for past 2 months. We can start to monitor his progress first.
It is difficult to find midfielders who place himself in favourable position to shoot. And he has the drive and attitude to succeed. Staying put in lazio for yrs and finally getting the chance to prove his worth..look at his assist yesterday, u need that kind of eager and determination to come up with that assist. He responded well in media too. He has a high work rate too.

On Vlasic – sure he did well against Faroe and Monte – but who cares really – we need players that will be impactful against Spain, Brazil, France, etc – however, the fact that Vlasic is captain of Torino says at least he’s a responsible leader in the team (which counts for a lot – and something the NT needs) – so he has that going for him – and I also like his aggressiveness on the pitch – but in 60 caps for the NT – I doubt folks can remember more than a couple memorable things he’s actually done that have impacted/changed the game (yes, the goal vs. Monte is one of them)
I think all these 4 are at best squad players (not sure anyone is saying anything different) – but we still have big holes in who the starters are going to be (especially front 3) – so those players are priority IMO

On the 3rd goal – he had some nice quick feet/moves to swivel and shoot – the rebound landed to a teammate who scored (so Roko de facto got an assist here, even if not recorded as such)

Nikola Vlasic was a guy who I thought (at the beginning of this season) would not make the World Cup team. But now, after his two beautiful goals for us and his aggressive play coming off the bench…he’ll be a great sub.
Adriano Jagusic, Toma Basic, Nikola Vlasic, etc need to be called up for the next round of friendlies (if they keep up their play).
No reclamation projects like the aforementioned vlasic and that toma guy. What for? Live and die with the youth at this point.
If we fail with the regurgitation projects like you said, we’re back to square 1.

Have you watched Bašić play? He is fast, aggressive but smart, and has great dribbling and a laser of a shot. He actually tracks back on defense. He’s beaten out Uruguay international Matias Vecino for the starting spot alongside France international Matteo Guendouzi. Bašić is a quality player who can compete with and against the best. He would have done it sooner if it hadn’t been for injuries. Who care about his age if he can help win the world cup?

Three years ago, most people didn’t even know who Petar Sučić and Jagušić were. Within three years, we’ll probably have another handful of players like this.
If you hit on one more, then you have your young central midfield trio to pair with our ridiculously young and talented group of backline players.

I watched some of the Wolfsburg v Leverkusen game.
Majer played well, and seemed to be one of the better Wolfsburg players.
There were a couple of times when Majer broke into the open and accelerated into great position and all his teammates had to do was thread a pass through, and he was home free on the goalie. The past ever came.
