Nikola Vlašić received a 7.9 SOFAScore rating as he scored the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 Torino win over Cremonese Saturday. Vlašić picked up a bouncing ball in the box and slammed the ball into the ground to beat the keeper. He now has goals in back-to-back games and 3G/2A in 15 Serie A matches this season. He is slowly heating up, but at the end of the day, he is a true CAM and there is no where to put him in the Croatia starting XI at the moment if Dalić is going to play a 4-2-3-1.
Ivan Perišić returned to the pitch from a minor knock Saturday, coming off the bench in the 63′ to assist in a 4-3 PSV win over Heracles. The win keeps PSV 6+ points in front of Feyenoord for 1st place in the Netherlands. Good to see Perišić healthy after coming off in a Champions League match weeks ago.
Luka Modrić played the full 90 minutes in a disappointing 2-2 AC Milan draw vs. Sassuolo Sunday. He received a subpar 5.5 rating from SempreMilan.com as “You could argue he was involved in the first goal with the pass to RLC, but the latter did 98% of the work. Sadly, there were far too many mistakes by the Croatian today and he will be the first to tell us that. By his standards, I would definitely say it was subpar.” With the draw, AC Milan fall one point behind city rivals Inter for the Serie A lead.
Joško Gvardiol received a 8/10 rating from Manchester Evening News in City’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace Sunday. “One half of a terrific centre-back pairing to keep Mateta and the rest at bay, he is coming into form.” The win keeps City two points behind leaders Arsenal.
Luka Vušković played the full 90 minutes for Hamburg Saturday in a 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim. Vušković received a 6.3 SOFAScore rating as CB with 2/2 tackles won and 10/10 ground + aerial duels won. He had one defensive error that led to a goal. Andrej Kramarić played 67 minutes for Hoffenheim in the victory but did not get his name on the scoresheet.

We’ve played England twice at a major competition. Twice at Nations League and twice in qualifying for major tournaments. I watched the last Euro Cup highlights and oh my did we look lost. No urgency, chemistry, opportunities that looked threatening. It was also Livakovic’s first major tournament, Gvardiol was only 18 and our starting striker was Rebic so that speaks for itself. Now with an experienced star Gvardiol, more options and youth upfront. This is a much different team. Just to play devils advocate, that England team was brutal. Phillips and Mount? Both of those two are irrelevant. I’m surprised they made it to the final.
They played Ukraine, a washed Germany and should’ve lost to Denmark with that bs penalty. Italy had to go through Spain and Belgium
Why buy on FIFA marketplace when you can buy on Stubhub (or equivalent) ?
Tickets are cheaper on 3rd party (but still issue can’t see/pick actual seats)
How did baturina play?
Will watch the whole thing when I have time (was going to watch Franjo/Benfica v. Napoli – but moving Baturina v. Roma up)
Followed on twitter – said he made a goal-line clearance (!!!) in 41′ – just watched the play – it’s UNBELIEVABLE – Baturina follows his man (RB or RWB) and runs FULL SPEED into the box with the man from the half-way line – bc he made this effort (his player peeled off eventually) – he was well positioned in his own box and how the ball moved and was shot he was able to block it
Bati – rightly – celebrated like he scored a goal – this is MONSTER OOP work from Bati
Anonymous can’t believe their eyes
Sure – it’s only one play – but this is Cesc doing God’s work
Really want to sit down and watch the whole thing properly and report back – will do asap
Awesome
Baturina needs a month with mandzo and his goal keeping monster defending skills

Yup !
Wouldn’t shock Anonymous either
Lucky some of them have already been capped by England (e.g. Kobbie Mainoo)

From Anonymous’ mouth to God’s ear and voila
Baturina first start since August
Nice to see Como listening to Anonymous’ infinite wisdom! 😎
Paz starting too
Interesting to see line-up / formation
Both 10s / both 8s w Paz slightly ahead / one an 8 the other 10
Knowing Dalic if he seed Vlasic playing this well he’ll just fit him at a random position somewhere lol rip
England-watch
Dan Burn broken ribs and lung damage
Out 2+ months
Started at CB vs Albania – he’s is/was 💯 going to WC (as top 4 CB)
He is/was key as senior figure/leader on the team (beyond him its only Jordan Henderson as leader)
Keep eyes how his recovery goes
Would be a massive loss if he couldn’t go to the WC (to keep all the individuals and egos in check)
No predictions till closer to the game
Little quirk that I noticed. If you look at the 3rd place possibilities on the FIFA schedule, group L 3rd place is present in only ONE spot (third place for every other group could potentially go in numerous different spots.).
For group L, seems if 3rd place advances, they would be locked into the round of 32 in Kansas City (against the winner of group K -likely Portugal). Then, round of 16 in Vancouver (likely against the winner of Canada’s group).
Interesting then, if we advance as third place in group L, we already know exactly where we would go.
It’s pretty much a guarantee that we’re playing Colombia or Portugal in the Round of 32.
We’ll see.
If FIFA allows us to beat England in that first game, then we’ll top the group and avoid Portugal/Colombia altogether.
I could potentially see Jamaica sliding into second place in that group.
Too many croatian cams are limited in what they offer, vlasic great finisher not great playmaker. Majer great passer but slow not threating enough etc and etc.
Also to many croatian kids don’t properly train from early age and take care of their bodies. If you look at vlasic today he is slimmer than a few years ago same with Baturina guy looks slimmer and faster than last year.
1- I think baturina will pan out nico paz is literally the best cam in italy right now i think its good for him the see and train with him. Paz will be going to madrid i think como have a plan for baturina.
2- Jagusic has a great head on his shoulders and is developing his overall game he isn’t limited to just being a 10 which is what a true professional is.
3- If kramaric is starting in wc were in trouble. There is no way sucic, modric and if healthy kovacic aren’t starting together. This mean if kramaric is playing its on the wing that’s bad news for us.
All this discussion about failed CAMs and yet we aren’t discussing the why ?
Anonymous blames Niko Kranjcar (well actually his dad)
Look at the 2006 line-up – daddy put Niko as the #10 – the ONLY creative outlet on the field – with two strikers ahead of him – and the other seven players were all defensive players
Niko was the only creative outlet – it obviously didn’t work
Nepotism failed
Anyways, Niko got away with it – and had a decent career – despite being a fat p*g and the slowest player ever to play football – because of world-class technical skills, outstanding ability on the ball, world-class vision, outstanding passing and world-class powerful shot – but he had ZERO defensive responsibility on the NT
So all these Coric, Halilovic, etc types – grew up saying “I wanna be like Niko just offensive” – with none of them actually as good as what Niko excelled at – and this was exacerbated by coming up via teams like Dinamo – that coddle these creative types (like Baturina) – and tell them they are special snowflakes that can just sit outside the opponent’s box and wait to be feed the ball and then make a nice pass or try a shot – Baturina is learning the hard way as Cesc has noted he doesn’t understand why Dinamo didn’t teach Baturina how to be a midfielder (lol) so he is doing God’s work teaching Baturina how to be a complete midfielder (something Dinamo should have done) – in the long-run Baturina will be a MUCH better player and more useful for the NT – btw: Nico Paz despite being the #10 is super aggressive and very strong OOP and often runs back and wins the ball back (so Baturina has to better than him offensively (which he isn’t) and has to be better than him defensively (which Baturina is starting from zero)) – don’t understand why Dalic didn’t do something about this before – he say it in training that Baturina doesn’t do defence – he should have told him he needs to work on his full-game – anyways Cesc is working on it – let’s see if Baturina feature later today Como is playing – eventually he should get a start
Really enjoyed reading this comment (lol at Cesc doing God’s work teaching Baturina how to be a complete midfielder). Yeah I’ve never understood why Dinamo coaches and Dalic didn’t, or didn’t manage to, drill it into Bati’s head that he has to defend and fight for the ball more, culminating in this situation now whereby poor Bati has to learn things the hard way. I believe in Baturina though, I think he has a good attitude and is 100% serious about his career, so unlike Coric or Halilovic, I trust he will do whatever it takes to improve and reach the necessary level. As noted by Maminjo, he might evolve in a similar fashion to Kovacic in this regard.
Why Dinamo has allowed this?
Because it’s easier to sell a player with high G+A – the higher the better and higher the price they can ask – as can say they are an offensive weapon blah blah blah
But the reality is it’s not good enough – Inter scouts started watching Pero in September of last year – they had a chance to watch Pero and see Baturina – they obviously went with Pero
And Baturina still sold for higher value than Pero bc of the bias around G+A (which makes zero sense to anyone who follows Croatian football – but that’s the market it pays more for G+A)
Genoa 1-2 Inter
Petar Sucic played 74 minutes on Sunday. Below are Inter’s player ratings from La Gazzetta dello Sport. Italian media generally praised his first half performance, noting his technique and vertical play. He created one chance for Lautaro in the 22′ and set up Lautaro for the matchwinner in the 38′ (not a conventional assist— shielded the ball from Genoa’s Malinovskyi which allowed Lautaro to get into a shooting position). Not a bad outing imo.
Sommer 6
Bisseck 7
Akanji 6
Bastoni 6.5
Henrique 5.5
Barella 6.5
Zielinski 6.5
SUCIC 6.5
Augusto 6
Lautaro 7.5
Esposito 6
@Crnkovic
Thank you for your recent posts – very informative and enlightening
When Dalic puts Jagusic on call-up (for now)
Do you think he envisions him playing as an inside forward (you call it inverted right winger) on the right side i.e. as alternative to Marco and/or his tendency to play wanna-be CAMs (Baturina, Majer or Mario) as RW ?
Or as alternative to Kramaric as a SS ?
If Jagusic is naturally more comfortable out on the wing than perhaps RW is the better fit for the NT
Jaga is a player who can do both RW (inside forward/inverted winger) or CAM. He is bullish. Aggressive and he isn’t a snowflake. He can tackle back and do the work.
We have a problem. we produce many 8’s so the best way to get 8’s in your team is to play 433 or 352. But if you play 433 you need wingers with pace and crucially you need a striker who do all the jobs a striker needs. Good link up play, some pace and finishing. We don’t have that. That’s why 4231 has worked well for us recently as Kramaric can play in the CAM position which allows budimir to stay forward and not get involved in link play. The only problem is you only have two other midfiejd positions, so one of sucic, modric and kovacic have to ride the pine.
That’s why I think we will see jaga play RW when he eventually gets a game for NT. although he is probably most effective through the middle.
Anyway jagusic is really good. Big prospect for us. We need a couple more to grab the bull by the horns and not take no for an answer. Jaga shows how you do it
@crnkovic
You’re missing it.
You have the top level players who are worth the squeeze in this position
But so many of these “cams” aren’t there because they are truly exceptional.
They are there because they are deficient in other areas that don’t let them play anywhere else
Take majer for example. Too slow for a winger, not a presence to be a striker, not a good enough possession passer to be a central mid, not enough defense and physicality for cdm
Only position he’s left to is cam where he can use some of his offensive talents
But those talents arent strong enough that he frequently gets squeezed out of line ups
How many Croatian cam prospects have we had? Majer, vlasic, vidovic, halilovic, marin, sucic, baturina, coric, ivanusec, biuk
Have any materialized?
There is a clear bias in the pipeline to produce cam prospects but unfortunately it is only the truly elite ones that are impactful enough to secure a field spot playing it. So far that is none for Croatia and kramaric continues to fill the void
“CAMs are only CAMs because they’re not good enough for other positions”
No wait! I mean…
“CAMs are great! But Croatia’s CAMs specifically are only CAMs because they’re not good enough for other positions”
😂
It is unfortunate that none of our 10’s has materialised into world class players. But that doesn’t mean they play there because they lack in other departments. This is actually illogical.
Different positions require different skill sets. CAM is the hardest and in many ways most important position on the field. Even in a Sunday league team nobody gets to play CAM for even a single minute because they lack in other areas. They play there because they have the touch, flair and vision better than their teammates.
The fact that so many of our CAM prospects haven’t worked out at top level just means they aren’t AS GOOD as those from other countries in the same position. It’s not rocket science.
If I had to find some kind of causality for this pattern I will try:
Croatian football has a cultural tendency to ball carrying. By this I mean taking several touches moving with the ball. Look how many of our players like to run with the ball. But this is not 1vs1 dribbling. It’s not based on dynamic change of pace. Different countries have different football identities and styles. Ours tends to be quite relaxed. The number 10 operates between the lines. Behind the opposition midfield and in front of their defense. That is the prime area of the pitch where damage can be done. In fact what pep did at Barcelona was basically try to fit as many CAM players into the team as possible. Which is 5. Two inverted wingers who would play 10 in any other team. Two attacking 8’s with incredible creativity and technique who also push into the half spaces and then to top it off a false 9 who also drops into that space. The requirements for that type of player are obviously supreme technical ability and vision. Because that space closes very quickly. If you take the ball there your decision making must be instant otherwise you get crowded out. If you take your time running with the ball you run out of space. That’s why Croatia has the best number 8’s in world football, but no 10’s. We take our time on the ball. Look how quick Spanish football is. Quick quick passes in the final third. It’s not our game.
At one time Italy had Totti, del piero, zola, di canio, baggio all these players are supremely gifted. All are 10’s. Now Italy doesn’t have a single number 10. So these things evolve. But the fact remains. If you are the most gifted player in technical terms your natural position will tend to be 10. That’s why when people talk of the best players in history you get a list of 10’s.
Lovro majer, vidovic, coric and the others you mentioned can all do things which even modric can’t do. But they can’t do it at the top level because overall they are not good enough. The mentality of a 10 has to be like a knife because it’s such a key position. So so sharp and focused. It doesn’t suit Croat mentality. Croats prefer to see how it goes.
In any case the CAM position has been almost phased out of football because the top club teams don’t want to rely on one genius. They have taken the pep blueprint and want up to 5 top creative players on the pitch at a time. It makes the team less dependent on one genius. So this is good for Us. Because we can always find two attacking 8’s to divide the work of a 10.
You see majer pass for the first goal at the weekend? You think any midfielder can see that? That’s the type of pass that only a CAM can see, time and execute
In 96/98 our midfiejd was boban, prosinecki, asanovic. 3 creative 8’s. No 6, no 10. 2018 we had modric, Rakitic, brozovic. 3 creative 8’s, no 6 no 10. Now we have modric, kovacic and sucic. 3 creative 8’s. No 6 no 10. It’s our unique way. The three players share all the defensive and creative duties. Kramaric is our 10. In his case it is because he is such a good player at what he does but can’t do the job of any other position in attack. But he has to play because he has the killer instinct to score goals. And we don’t have a complete striker. So Kramaric and budimir is the best solution. In any case we have Ivan on the wing so I’m not worried. The man is just too tough. We will humble England again. Without a 10 in sight
My dream is for Jagusic to explode in his first cap for us, and somehow works his way into the starting eleven (with Vuskovic and Ivanovic having good seasons at their clubs and working their way in there as well).
you know when you’re not that good a player?
When your position in cam
It seems so many Croatian prospects have been cams in recent years
But it’s a dumb position that requires a whole teams formation to accommodate you
It means you likely aren’t a good enough tempo, possession mf
You don’t have the defensive work rate and anticipation to be the cdm
Your not fast enough to be a winger
Or clinical and physical enough to be a striker
It’s an inbetweener
You have some creativity and maybe a good shot so you offer things in moments so you can find yourself out there
Most of them arent worth the squeeze to waste a field spot on
Lol. Like maradona and pele and zidane and cruyff and boban and totti and belloumi and gullit and kaka and zico and stojkovic and platini and Rui Costa. The whole point of CAM is you are the best player on the pitch. You are so talented you are given a position with minimum work off the ball and maximum opportunity on the ball. Take jagusic. He is strong and very hard working with an amazing shot on goal, fast and a good dribbler too. His natural position is as an inverted right winger ala messi, saka, salah and all the others. But he is so talented compared to his teammates that slaven belupo use him in the number 10 position to maximise his involvement in the game. If you are a striker you depend on service from teammates. If you play on the wing you only have 50% of the pitch to work with. If you play central midfield you have a lot of defensive work to do. This is the point of CAM. The problem is only that when you go to a top league you have to be the best player on your team to play CAM there also, and that is extremely hard given the standards on top 5 leagues. Hence baturina on bench behind Paz
If Vlasic plays CAM for Torino it means they consider him their best player. So far, since moving into that position he is justifying that faith. Imagine being a Croat, playing as a number 10 and captain of a major Serie A club and Croats in the diaspora saying you are shit. Lmao
Vlasic has been there for years in that role . Vlasic is streaky he’s in good form which is great he’s a great finisher. He seems to have lost some weight and looks like he has some more juice at the moment. However we know what he is at this point a limited playmaker and limited in his direct play which is why he goes up and down. But still a good career that any person would take.
retarded take
Number 10 is the hardest position in football. To play as 10 at top level is crazy talent. I play 10. I was signed to a team as the final piece of a title winning team. I struggled in the first 10 games, the manager put me left back to take the pressure off me. Left back was so easy. Too easy. Facing the same way. Only 2 or 3 things to consider. Number 10 is like orchestra conductor and lead violin at same time. Ask people who have played football.
When I was a manager I had a winger who thought he was a good player. He had a fantastic right foot, beautiful passing and crossing and shooting ability. He said to me “it’s not fair you never give me a chance as the 10” I said “you can’t play 10” he kept on about it. So one game I said ok you play 10 today. He was so happy. After 20 minutes he begged me to put him back on the wing. He never touched the ball a single time
I had another player in the same team. Young Congolese guy. Quick, strong, nice technique. First season he played left back. We won the cup and finished second in the league. He was outstanding. second season he said I “deserve” to play in midfield. I said “what do you mean deserve? Why to you want to change when you are playing so well and we are winning?” But no, he decided he would leave us unless I put him in midfield. So I gave him his chance in midfield, to be fair he was also good there, but not as good as the other options.
Everybody has got an opinion, but most of those opinions are basically self serving delusions based on ignorant assumptions. There is a reason not all good footballers make good managers. In this day and age everyone thinks he knows best when it comes to football. Yeah everyone can contribute, but there is huge gulf in knowledge between some. Football is an art and a science. Imagine telling a physicist or a painter “oh yeah that colour is trash you should put red there” or “oh yeah all this stuff about atoms is baloney, the universe is made out of chesseburgers”
I’m not saying I’m right. people don’t have to like vlasic. But as far as I’m concerned I’ve got a lot more respect for what those guys have achieved and continue to achieve. This isn’t a computer game it’s real life. I’m gonna bump into the captain of Torino and tell him he is no good at football. Yeah sure. Now come on Niksi score a few more goals!!
Saw the Dinamo score line
Most importantly right mls how did jagusic play overall??
That Basic red card is why some can’t watch football
Unless there was more to see, that’s basically the dumbest red I’ve ever seen
I watched a replay of that, and there just isn’t more to see. There’s really nothing exceptional about that engagement except that it’s off the ball and that Estevez played it as if Bašić had stabbed him. Hopefully Lazio appeals the red card. Bašić has been playing well.
Matanovic on for last 14 minutes

We need them to really step up and be the depth we need from them

Then what?
We need krama and Petar sucic to sort of take over the middle with luka ?
Pasalic/majer
Jagusic I don’t know if he will be integrated even tho he is showing like he can
Kova who? Can’t even say he’s a has been. Maybe a never was?
Vlasic banged in another one for Torino in their 1-0 win over Cremonense today.
Pissed off. That douche bag Landon Donovan Lexi lalas and Tony Melioa the Croatian team will not fight for Luka they way Argentina did for Messi or how Portugal will fight for Ronaldo . Your paid to cover soccer games in Uk and Europe , yet you just have to bring the World Cup and how Luka is not on the same level. Luka will not be a reason why AC Milan wins , I had to shut off . We have more luck than skill . Our guys Josko Vuskovic and Kramaric needs to step up and showed them all we are not garbage
There was a Fox WC preview with before the draw with Lalas (wanker), LandyCakes (nice new hair), Cobi Jones (don’t mind him) and Stu Holden (wanker) and they were pontificating about which Pot 2 team the USA might fear.
Uruguay and Colombia were brought up. Literally not one word about Croatia.
Didn’t care enough to post it at the time, but in reply ….
(In a more recent episode, Landy bitched non-stop about the (Croatian) Australian coach saying he was satisfied with the draw. So you are surprised the guy is “satisfied” to get USA and not Spain, France etc. …..)
These guys are TikTok clowns.
Meanwhile here in Australian news, when Aus got into pot 2 (barely), at the time the news here was reporting how it was fortunate since Australia would avoid having to play Croatia !
They are clowns. It’s insulting
Let them doubt
It helps feed the players
The three douche bags have no idea about Croatian pride. Maybe if these douches looked at the brief history of Croatian football success compared to USA maybe they would be a little less douchie. Landon is the King Douche! His commentary has to be the worst in football history.
Look we are not perfect and have had some bad losses and we are our own worst enemy. But to stay we are not talented and favor Ghana and England over us and to say Panama may upset is insulting. What do they know ?

Poll:
Whose ass is Anonymous farther up?
A) His/her/their own
B) The other Luka’s
Nothing wrong with hyping up a generational talent.
I’d rather ride and die with a couple of these young phenoms in our first team (like Vušković, Ivanović and Jagušić) than to see Dalić default to any out-of-form old guard players… and we still get bounced in the R32 anyway.
(then have to listen to him pumping up Colombia as some elite team that we shouldn’t be ashamed of losing to)
Luka Sucic was apparently a generational talent. Arf! We will see I guess.
Yes nothing wrong with hyping blah blah blah but last I looked Anonymous was not a generational talent. Self BJs left, right, centre.
Response in moderation. Le Sigh. La Vie.
Yes and he will do that. We need to start developing young talent sooner rather than later . I would take those three you mentioned this summer. What could it hurt ? Finally, he has hindered us long enough. I believe and you can say that I am, wrong . if we would have had a good coach in Brazil , and Russia we might of won. Coaching plays a big part . This guy gets credit for things he had nothing to do with . That euro was a disaster. He should of been fired for that
Coach Dalic has got us to heights no one has done before- 2 WC semifinal appearances and 1 Nations League Championship appearance. To say that he should have been fired or is not a good coach is one sorry assessment. We will miss him when he leaves. I hope he can bring the excitement one more time in ‘26. Viva Zlatko!
He was instrumental in fixing the locker room, but his tactics and subs are always questionable.
Things could be worse… But they could also be better too.
Nothing wrong with wanting an upgrade at coach (if one becomes available).
An upgrade? Coach Dalic has merited to be given this chance for the ‘26 WC. If he fails, I can live with it. If you look at how much our players are playing right now (eg Livakovic), he is doing what many coaches would do. Is Vušković an upgrade? Perhaps. Unfortunately, Kramaric, Perisic, Budimir, and Modric are still major options at this point as the young guys are but developing. Coach Dalic has 6 months to figure it out. The coaches in the know like a Deschamps respect Croatia. I like our chances in the group stage. It’s anybody’s guess after that. Viva Zlatko!
He has to go . We need to spend some money and get a foreign coach. Deschamps looks down on us , when he found out we were going to play in nations league he has a smirk on his face, We were supposed to win in France but Boban sold out and purposely lost the ball . Nobody likes or respects hrvati . Let’s see how Dalic handles this World Cup . We crash and burn , get embarrassed and humiliated he has to go ,
The only manager that would be worthy of an upgrade would be didier Deschamps
Hull 2-0 at HT
MASSIVE first half by Pandur with FOUR saves
Wow Wow Wow
Currently 6th place – but very congested
Let’s see if they can hold on in the 2nd half
Majer catching fire for wolfsburg
Agreed. A nice pass by Majer to set up that first Wolfsburg goal.
1G and 1A in last 10 games lol
Wow
Well, he had not been starting. Very reduced minutes. Spent a lot of time sitting on the bench during those ten games. Now he is starting again, he is playing better, and as part of that Wolfsburg looks like they will put together two wins in a row (which they haven’t done for a long time). He set up the all-important first goal today very early in the game, and has a goal and an assist in the last two games. Let’s hope he is back on track after some terrible injuries, a stretch of bad luck.
It looks like he is. . . .
Get him on the plane!
Seriously though I do think he’s a great option. More so centrally than on the wing though.
What do you think of Marco Pasalic and Mario , and should Toma Basic get Ticket , he has been playing well and so has both Pasalic
Majer back in the starting lineup after new coach and playing well which is a good sign.
I would classify it as more of a slight rug burn than a fire…
Luka vs. Andrej both start
