The report that Szczesny told Flick that Livaković is in better shape than him and should start against Sevilla is actually true.
Putting aside the jokes about Szczesny not wanting to play or avoiding games, this guy is genuinely such a class act.
When he made that mistake in the last game, Flick defended him and said every player makes mistakes and that he still trusts him. Szczesny could have easily taken advantage of that and started any game without thinking twice.
But he’s honest with himself. He knows he’s not the Szczesny of old anymore and doesn’t want to become a burden to the team. He’s not chasing starts or being selfish. He sees himself as an emergency option and believes another goalkeeper deserves to play, so he told Flick.
He’s always around Livaković in training and knows exactly how he’s doing.
