Communism means living according to communal values. Which means that decisions are made democratically in order to safeguard the holistic health and well being of a community.
Socialism means exactly the same thing and the two words were used interchangeably by Karl Marx.
Anarchism means the absence of permanent power structures. Which means that nobody is able to command resources or executive decisions making power. In other words that decisions should be arrived at democratically according to what serves everyone not just a minority with power. (Nothing to do with chaos. The two words are confused intentionally).
Democracy means people decide what should happen, rather than a king or the super wealthy for example. As you can see all 4 mean exactly the same thing aka freedom through social responsibility. You didn’t know that did you?
The difference between communism and capitalism has nothing whatsoever to do with markets or how big the state is. What we normally call “communism” is big state run capitalism. Like China. Or the Soviet Union.
In each of those two examples, Society was run (un democratically ) by a “communist” party. The stated aim of those parties being to establish a state capable of resisting global capitalism with the eventual goal being global freedom and the total dismantling of all states.

It’s important to note that they only have Budimir in there because Matanovic is battling a virus (otherwise he’d be in there).
I like the backline. I really want to see how the Gvardiol/Vuskovic pairing works and I think Perisic makes for a good stop-gap at LB for the time being.
I don’t like the idea of Modric and Kova playing 90 minutes each (which is likely going to happen). I would have preferred Petar Sucic back in the pivot for 90 minutes with Modric and Kova splitting time in the other spot.
I don’t care much for Vlasic, but he will probably work hard and play well at RW. But, if we’re choosing to NOT play a traditional winger on that right side, then I would rather play Luka Sucic there (and see how a trio of Baturina and the two Sucics would look together).
If things get stale, I can see Bilic throwing in Marco Pasalic (which may be his last-ditch effort to show Bilic what he can bring). Budimir up top makes more sense with a traditional winger…but he’s likely only there because Matanovic is out and is also likely to be subbed out at halftime for Beljo (just so Boban will shut up about Beljo already).
Mind you, this is just for the Czechs where we will likely dominate possession, so it’s probably fine to overplay Modric since the game will likely be slower.
Czech also have a new coach (who may have new ideas and a new playing style) so Bilic has to be careful as this has potential for a “trap” game.

Krusic / HNS should have been smarter about this as eg in their employment contract have some bonus structure for new contracts negotiated that x% increase vs previous amount gets paid as bonus – they would get to the same place but different mechanism/optics and not a “commission” directly in the sponsorship contract (which is a what is being investigated)
I don’t know much about Kustic, nor will I hold water for him.
If they broke a rule by having a third party gain a commission while negotiating a contract, then there needs to be some sort of fine or something. But ultimately, I do support an incentivized-based workplace in the public sphere, where public workers work harder to gain bonuses (and/or maintain their status) which is the fastest way to fix the “Uhljeb” problem.
But back to this contract issue specifically…this may be much ado about nothing here when there are far bigger issues that USKOK should be spending their time on (like who allowed for biohazardous medical waste to be dumped into Lika causing permanent damage and other more important things).
The Croatian media is pretty communist, so they will go after anything they see as patriotic. The Croatian National Team, its checkered uniform, and its players are Croatian icons. If the media can make the National Team, the FA, and the players look “dirty” they will focus all their efforts on it.

Those two seasons he had at Rennes were phenomenal.
when Majer is at his best he is useful and creative. when he is not at his best he is average at best…thats my opinion on him. I do think he has more offensive tools than many players we’ve seen on the National Team.
Bilic is awesome to listen to, I just hope he can create an environment where the players do play for him and they give us their best. I’d like to see players fighting for playing time and to see Bilic reward good games while reduce for bad performances. I’m not convinced about Bilic just yet, I think he has bog shoes to fill and we may see people that hated on Dalic beg for him to return.
I like Majer’s game. He reminds me of a great point guard in basketball. The type of player that makes everyone around him better. I thought he may have been bitter about being left off the WC squad. Instead he called Bilic and asked that he not be forgotten. It’s a great attitude and I’m pulling for him to do well.

Josip Brekalo is playing quite well for Hertha BSC Berlin in the German 2. Bundesliga. This is still a pretty good level and Hertha Berlin is currently leading the division. Hertha Berlin has been mid-table for about 3 or 4 years since they were relegated from the Bundesliga. So, Brekalo, who is Hertha’s captain, is having a very positive influence on the team’s performances. The HNS may need to keep an eye on him as there is a need for wingers on the team.

I haven’t been watching full games for Sociedad (just caught half a game, and the rest are extended highlights).
Not sure if he’s running, pressuring opposing players, or playing defense well (like his cousin does).
Luka Sucic has always been offensively impactful (just watch Euro2024), but I’m hoping he can become a complete player like Petar Sucic and Baturina have.
Still, very impressive start to the season and playing a role we may need on that right side.

Maminjo, the one thing I would add about Luka Sučić is that he is the only one out of the three that had come back from that injury. People have to remember that’s not easy to manage, even though he is still young, that probably has something to do with his progression. Before that injury he was scoring even more frequently despite it being a less prominent league.
I would still dare say he has a high ceiling possible even more than his cousin and Baturina. He was performing at this level before they were to be fair. I think we have to wait and see what he is able to bring to the table. I have feeling Luka Sučić will surprise some people. He should have had at least a few goals for the National Team but was unlucky again.
We are definitely lucky to have these there on the Sučić cousins and Baturina. Our midfield is stacked with potential.
Some very insightful observations from Mate1.
We have five players where there is a consensus, the five who form that core of players under 26, the five who will be critical going forward to 2028-30. There is basically no disagreement on these five: Petar, Baturina, Gvardiol, Vuskovic, Stanisic.
Then we have two players who have now broken away from the pack so to speak, who are pushing toward joining the top five.
The first is Igor Matanovic. Igor is very close to climbing into that consensus core, making it a core six, but he needs to have a good Nations League and he has to continue to produce as he has been at Freiburg. But as I have said, in 15 months he has gone from being a guy who can’t find enough playing time, to a guy who is considered one of the top strikers in the Bundesliga. He is really making a statement.If Igor keeps progessing as he has, he will be the next to join the top five.
However, now also pushing to make a claim to join the elite group, to become a consensus starter, is Luka Sucic. He is starting to make noise that he is will make it a core seven. Mate1 notes that Luka Sucic has a high ceiling, and many here agreed: Luka S was the talk of this board as “the future” folllowing the NT’s disappointing Euro 2024. While last season was, on the whole, a setback for him, as late events unfolded Real Sociedad ended up winning the coveted Copa Del Rey, and Sucic closed the season as an important contributor in that big cup win. In Spain that is a huge result for Sucic and his team. Winning is contagious, it brings its own momentum. I think it was critical, and it helped him turn the corner, though he did not get much playing time with the NT at WC 2026.
But back to the question: Z asks, has Luka Sucic arrived? In answer to the question, I think the tentative answer is yes, but not yet into the unanimous core group. Not yet. However, he and Matanovic are the closest to being included.

Gvardiol, Vuskovic, Stanisic, Petar Sucic, and Baturina are automatic. That’s five.
Matanovic seems like he’s about to break out (making it six) and hopefully Luka Sucic does the same (making it seven).
Goalkeeper makes it 8 players, and for the next couple of tournaments, it’s always going to be Liva or Pandur.
So, the final three spots can be any combo of vets or up-and-comers.
We don’t actually need to lock down a trio to complete the starting eleven. We are lucky to have a lot of depth with our vets (Kova, Modric, Budimir, Perisic, Majer) and our up-and-coming youth (Stojkovic, Jaga, etc.) that there will always be a handful of very in-form players to choose from.
So, it’s less-so about trying to get a perfect starting eleven of in-form guys who are all the same age.
Gaps can be filled with in-form role players or veterans.
I’m moreso interested in the CEILING of our core 5-7 players, as this is what can carry you to tournament wins.
For example, if Vuskovic and Baturina take future steps and become Real Madrid caliber players…or if Matanovic were to actually become a top striker in the Budesliga or EPL.
This is what will take us there.
Maminjo is 100% right.
However, in a perfect world, I’d like to see those two make a big statement this year and join the core group, AND THEN maybe one more player to come through over the next two years who really suprises all of us, making it a very formidable core of eight plus goalie.
That other player could be either a dangerous forward, perhaps a winger, or perhaps a left back that will allow an easy move for Gvardiol to move inside and play center back along with Vuskovic. Or a great young center back to play alongside Vuskovic, someone who makes Gvardiol as left back a no brainer.
From there, Maminjo’s point is well taken: we have a very good set of vets and up-and-comers who can and will provide the support, plug the gaps, and be ready to help support that core group through major tournaments in 2028 and 2030.
As for the ceiling, I don’t know if anyone can say what the ceiling is for the core group. But it is very high, and the only question really is: how high?
We can already say that Gvardiol is a definite starter, a star in his own right on a world class club team. (“A world class player”). Stani might have the lowest “ceiling” of the core group, being a very, very good defender who plays regularly on a world class club team. He is a fantastic footballer, though his ceiling is not quite as high as Gvardiol’s.
I think the potential is there for the other three to be starters and stars on world class caliber teams, Real Madrid level teams. But of course that remains to be seen.
Especially if Matanović can manage that. I am really hoping for him to be the striker moving forward. He just really needs that break out season and consistency.

I always said he was an impactful offensive player, and he was one of our best players during our horrible Euro2024 campaign. This was true.
It never meant that I thought he was going to be some superstar or even a better player than Baturina or Petar Sucic.
If anything, I was harping on his cousin (Petar Sucic) becoming an amazing player when he debuted for Dinamo. I thought he looked amazing, and unsurprisingly, Como made a concrete offer for him within a year (but Petar turned them down, then Inter came in the following season).
I always liked Petar Sucic and Baturina…but if Luka Sucic can join them in our midfield, that’s a bonus. But there will be a lot of competition with all of the youth prospects and depth coming up.

Rijeka put in the best performance of the season so far to beat Hajduk 3 – 0 at Rujevica. We just have a rotten record against Rijeka over the years especially away from home. In fact, we have not scored a goal against Rijeka in the last 8 matches at Rujevica which is absolutely unbelievable.

The reason Broz didn’t score more for Croatia is he was sitting deeper in Croatia’s midfield (vs. Inter) and had more defensive responsibilities (relative speaking) while Croatia had other more offensive-focused threats upfield (Perisic, Mandzukic, Rebic, etc) – but he is known for long-ranger bangers

Broz should have scored against Brazil in 2022, but he was unlucky and injured and shot wide.
The only shitty part is Broz went for money with Saudi League, had he stayed Italy or went to Spain he may have gotten even better. Inter almost won the Champions League that year I really wish he took it before he retired.
If Broz scored that goal, then Petkovic (who nutmegged two players at the same time to send him the pass) would have had one of the best assists in World Cup history.

Unfortunately you can’t really see what he did well, but if Broz scored on that pass from Bruno, then there would be multiple versions with multiple angles of Petkovic’s move and you would be able to see it better.
Petković was always good at putting defenders off balance it’s a shame he could be a little faster and score a little more consistently for the National Team. Same goes for Livaja but that’s neither here not there at this point.
But yes that was a phenomenal pass that very well should have led to a goal.

One area of potential improvement, and it has been noted on this board previously by others, is that our young midfield players seem to have that ability to really rip it from that distance. Baturina, Petar, and Luka Sucic can all bang it in from there. Luka Sucic has a heck of a left foot. Jagusic is another one who can hammer it from that range. Up front, Matanovic has also shown the ability to strike from that range and beat the goalie cleanly.
It probably will give us a different dimension on the attack, something extra that we might have been lacking a little in the past.

Kudos to Dalic for all he did. However, his decision on benching Vuskovic after one game is one of the dumbest decisions he ever made. To decide that a younger defender is better in a back there than a back four or more suitable just doesn’t name sense.
I have a lot of respect for Dalić too, but he’s still a very flawed coach.
He made a lot of mistakes this past World Cup, and his biases were pretty bad (faulting Vušković for not being able to cover for Gvardiol’s bad form, yet no backup fullbacks called up to prevent this issue?).
Regardless, we are very lucky to have a star caliber player like Vušković now.

We actually have to thank De Zerbi for all of this.
He was the coach that “musical chaired” his way into the head coaching position at Spurs, and was credited with keeping them from being relegated (even though he barely did anything different than Tudor and the rest of the prior coaches).
He wanted Van Hecke from Brighton (solely because of their friendship from De Zerbi coaching him before) and Spurs obliged.
Brighton took advantage of this and asked to speak with Vušković, where they likely told his camp that Spurs want to buy Van Hecke and that Luka will likely be a bench player for Spurs.
Brighton inflated the overrated Van Hecke’s price and used the money to buy Vušković. Pretty much an even swap of the players…despite Van Hecke being a far older and far less talented player.
Spurs fans are upset and pundits like O’Hara are calling for Spurs to bench Van Hecke already. Meanwhile, Vušković is killing it as a 19 year old at Brighton.
De Zerbi probably gets fired this season, with his only legacy being getting Spurs management to swap a Duje Ćaleta-Car for a Vušković. 😅

Anon, I went to watch that. Yeah that was a really smooth, really seamless touch by Skafar Zuzic. Ivanovic did something similar (not as smooth of course) when he scored his first goal for Lens, but I suspect it’s not something he is able to pull off frequently, haha. About Vrbancic, your observation that he’s a powerful runner is very interesting… and yep I also think this trait would serve him well in a top league (i.e. more press-resistant). Would be fantastic for the NT if he can develop into a quality DM 🙂

Hope that Skafar Zuzic, when the time is right, gets to a good situation like Vuskovic and Baturina. For now, Istra seems to be a team on the rise and probably best to stay there, developing in the HNL, for the foreseeable future.
Jagusic is a great talent. But one wonders if he moved to the right team at the right time.
Vuskovic and his people seem really smart. You will recall when he went to Hamburg, they had just been elevated to the Bundesliga, and that there was some concern on this board about the move. But Vuskovic and his people had thought it through. It was a stellar decision, he was a starter from the beginning, and it got him away from that disastrous season at Tottenham. The move to the Premier League this year, after a full season in the Bundesliga, is better timing. And Brighton has been a fantastic place for him to go.
Speaking of Vuskovic, a big win v. Arsenal! Watched most of the game . . . (Tough to keep track of all the teams and players around Europe. Been flipping around to various games, and recording them where I can.)
I share the concerns expressed about Ivanovic’s currrent situation. I guess we just have to see how it unfolds. I watched Ivanovic’s old team, USG, play the first half in their recent Europa League game against Viktoria Plzen. Mateo Biondic played well, scored a nice goal, hitting it with his left foot (weak foot) and beating the goalie cleanly. He is another player who Maminjo has on his rising stars list. As as been said, Biondic seems to have come out of nowhere. Who else emerges in the next 1-2 years?
Skafar Zuzic is EXTREMELY young (having recently turned 17).
It’s a bit too early to gauge him, but it’s phenomenal for our National Team that we have Istra (who are doing pretty decent) giving a lot of minutes to U19 and U17 players (Kumar, Sepic, Skafar-Zuzic, Ahmeti, etc.).
Incredible for their development.

I recall that terrible day when those three Muslim terrorists with huge knives went on that horrible rampage in London.
They came off the street and into a bar armed with those knives as everyone ran like hell, but the terrorists were caught off guard when that Millwall fan charged directly at them screaming: “Fuck you, I’m Millwall!”
I think he grabbed a chair or something, some glasses of beer were thrown, and the battle was engaged. He went at them, basically unarmed, and survived.
This just isn’t normal behaviour.

The report that Szczesny told Flick that Livaković is in better shape than him and should start against Sevilla is actually true.
Putting aside the jokes about Szczesny not wanting to play or avoiding games, this guy is genuinely such a class act.
When he made that mistake in the last game, Flick defended him and said every player makes mistakes and that he still trusts him. Szczesny could have easily taken advantage of that and started any game without thinking twice.
But he’s honest with himself. He knows he’s not the Szczesny of old anymore and doesn’t want to become a burden to the team. He’s not chasing starts or being selfish. He sees himself as an emergency option and believes another goalkeeper deserves to play, so he told Flick.
He’s always around Livaković in training and knows exactly how he’s doing.
