Gvardiol was a physical young player that when he came on the scene at club level and International was way beyond his years. He is considered one of the best young defenders in the world and possesses an incredible attacking threat. But he’s 1 on 1 defending poisoning against low center of gravity driblers is in question. Messi turned him inside out in 2022 Word cup semi-finals. I hoped it was because Messi was Messi and Gvardiol was young. He hasn’t improved much much against the fast driblers. Gvardiol is a natural center back he should stay there and let more adjale players play outside of him. Gvardiol and Vuskovic must stay as center backs use there powers to defend from the center and dominate that way. Ofencevly they have the potential to be serious threat tha every team will fear. The right young left back,right back and defensive holding midfielder in front of them can make this work.
Gvardiol is having another bad game defensively. He has not been good since after the World Cup either. I remember watching him closely against Panama as I had good seats and he was getting torched by some nobody time and time again. Things have not improved all that much since then. He has become a liability defensively.

With all of our young CBs coming up, it will be interesting to see what happens with Gvardiol in the next 3-4 years.
Maybe Gvardiol needs a change of scenery. He’s been off his game for a while, but it’s easy to forget he’s still young (especially for a defender). I’m sure he’ll bounce back
I’m confident he will too.
I was hoping he wouldn’t extend that contract, but he’s signed until 2031.
