New season. Same debate.
Ante Rebić started the Serie A season Saturday with two goals in a 4-2 AC Milan victory over Udinese. Rebić is not part of the Croatian national side at this moment as he was kicked off the team following EURO 2020. Rebić and Zlatko Dalić have a broken relationship and it doesn’t look to be on the mend anytime soon. With the World Cup three months away and the team without a clear-cut striker to play the #9, if Rebić was brought back onto the team (with zero drama), would you want him to play as striker ahead of Kramarić or possibly on the right wing?
Ivan Perišić was subbed on in the 79′ Sunday in a wild, wild match between Chelsea and Tottenham that ended 2-2 with an equalizing corner kick header at the death. With Chelsea up 2-1 in the sixth minute of injury time, Perišić whipped in a corner kick that Harry Kane climbed the ladder for to shatter infuriated Chelsea hearts. Chelsea supporters will tell you both Spurs goals should have been disallowed. Both coaches – Tuchel and Conte – were shown red cards after the final whistle after they got into with each other. It was a fantastic London Derby for the neutral fan as Perišić gets on the scoreline for the first time in a Spurs shirt.
Luka Modrić started the La Liga season on the bench for Real Madrid but was quickly inserted at halftime with the Spanish champions down 1-0 to Almeria. Modrić received a 7/10 as he “Added a needed level of calm that had been missing from Real’s midfield.” Almost 37 years old and still making a difference at Europe’s top level.
Andrej Kramarić missed a penalty Saturday in Hoffenheim’s 3-2 victory over Bochum. Krama went hard and left but the Bochum goalie got to his spot for the block. It wasn’t a bad penalty miss by any means. Hoffenheim escape with the game winner three minutes from the final whistle despite the miss from the penalty spot.
Keep yours eyes on Antonio Čolak this season as he’s gotten off to a hot start. Čolak has scored in three straight games for his new Rangers club: 2-0 win vs. Kimarnock, 4-0 win vs. St. Johnstone, and the aggregate-tying goal over Belgian side St. Union-Gilloise in CL qualifying. Rangers would later score the winner to move onto the last round of qualifying where they will meet PSV Eindhoven in the next two weeks. Winner goes to Champions League. Loser goes to Europe League.

Barisic assisted the final goal for Rangers also
On rebic. Like his biggest supporter, the one and only Soul Champ, I’ve always liked Rebic, his fire and physicality and bravery were a huge part of our 2018 run. He has got flair too. An underrated finisher. I think he will have a good season for ac Milan and will certainly score way more than 10 goals and a bunch of assists. He has two problems, his attitude can cause problems and he lacks consistency with his first touch. I say call him up next month and take a look.
Sucic and ljubicic both with assists this weekend for their clubs. Ljubicic again was brilliant, creating 3 golden opportunities for his team to score, showing vision and passing technique. A constant goal scoring threat as well
Is ljubicic better suited as a sole striker or in a tandem since a few people have said now he is a good play maker as well
Crnkovic, that last part you wrote for Rebic is the big problem which is his first touch and finess. That attribute is really needed to be in that position unfortunately and it has not improved at all for him from what I am reading and hearing in the reviews of each game.
Another downside for him, more importantly, is ball retention which is a huge part of Croatia’s game…atleast the Croatia which Dalic has fashioned. Rebic does not compliment the kind of back line issues we have and he can scare the best of defenders…those defenders in his own half that is.
I seriously don’t think he is a good player to call up, but hey…maybe that will change.
Watched Colak a couple of times for Rangers and he looks a different player to what I saw when he played a couple of times for Croatia. He looks a lot quicker, stronger and sharper. Scottish League is physical and fast tempo and I think this will benefit Colak. I think he will get a call up from Dalic for the upcoming NL matches in September.
Perisic missed most of the preseason training with Spurs, due to his calf injury at the end of the last season with Inter Milan That is why he is coming off the bench. Players missing preseason are prone to injuries and I hope that will not be the case with Perisic, because we need him to be fully fit for Qatar.
It looks like there may be a new spark in Rebic. He looks like he has something to prove. If he keeps this up he can send flowers to Dalic and maybe he will be of use in Qatar now that they allowed a bigger roster it might work out. If he is on the NT it would have to be a new and improved Rebic. Not Euro 2020 Rebic!!
Otherwise forget it.
We can forget about Rebic, that ship has sailed
You know rebic wants to go to the party
He is probably like ill show them what they are missing
When all he would have to do is play well and own his actions
But the pride seems strong with him
Real needs to buy a Croatian prospect to play understudy to Luka while they still have him.
Not sure how long they think they can ride the Luka train.
They are still so dependant on him.
Shit so are we;)
Dudu. Look.
https://youtu.be/TT-aL–07TA
Great game dinamo vs hajduk. Really good pace, rhythm and intensity to the game. Was really impressed with most of the players. Baturina took my breath away on a couple of occasions. Bosko sutalo impressed me as well, he may not be as good as josip sutalo, but he’s better than lauritson, peric, or theophile. Biuk is progressing well, quietly. Livaja has tremendous attitude and vision. Hes not at the same level, but his style of play reminds me of totti, hats a huge compliment believe me. Awaziem was superb until his mistake and is definitely a massive upgrade on the other imports. Petkovic, you can see is working hard now, but it may be too late for him. Misic is underrated, he is solid. Ivanusec is slowly regaining some form. Goalkeepers? Who knows. A great advert for Croatian football and the HNL.
Great stuff.
@Z did you compare pasalic to Eduardo da Silva? No no no, pasalic is doing well but dudu was on another level. Dudu is up there with our best ever players, if it wasnt for his horrific injury we would have won euro 2008 and dudu might have ended up with a ballon d’or. The premier league were absolutely terrified of dudu. He was quickly turning into one of the best players in the world. Romario levels.
Moroccco coach is just sacked.
Hakimi and ziyech will be welcome back to the squad.
Morocco gk and striker are already stronger than hs.
Change of coach means we will not know their playing style until the world cup match itself..we are in trouble..
Our RB and RW got to buck up..given that stanisic is behind pavard and maraouzi (from bayern) in pecking order.
That’s a team in the World cup we should definitely not underestimate going into it.
On Stanisic, he should also be looking at a loan option to get first-team football if he is serious about going to qatar and not pissing about on Bayern’s bench for the rest of the season.
Yes Morocco are very dangerous. Hakimi, mazroui, ziyech, harit, aguerd, saiss, bono, and the Sevilla number 9, I forget his name, top players. A good style of football and passionate fans. Hard to predict how well organised and confident they’ll be but for sure if they get it together they are capable of beating anyone. It’s a very dangerous first game. They have so much pace and skill. If we control the midfield as we can then we should win. But we have to prepare for the highest level opponent. They are the second best african team at the WC after senegal. Those two teams are very dangerous. The other 3 I would be very confident of beating. The biggest mistake would be to underestimate an opponent, morocco or canada
I got home from my vacation in time to watch the second half of Dinamo vs Hajduk!
Overall I think Hajduk’s key players weren’t doing their best and I wasn’t able to find out why Melnjak came in as a sub…the guy is probably Hajduk’s second best attacking threat.
The best part of the game was watching Baturina get in the scoresheet…that kid might end up doing great things.
There’s more games to be played, let’s all hope both Hajduk and Dinamo keep advancing in Europe and leave the rivalry on the field during our league games!
Pasalic played quite well today
Looks to have bulked up too
Maybe him and rebic up front perhaps
Oh ya? I’m a big pasalic fan. I didn’t watch anything today. Pasalic is a bigger and stronger DaSilva. He’s going to be very important in the next few months.
Whaaaat? I can’t think of one thing he shares with DaSilva
I wish he was!
He’s a poacher @maminjo that’s what i meant. Eduardo was a poacher. He just lurked about. Some just have that instinct. They both do and did
That is a stretch. I am a Pasalic fan to but he is not Eduardo, the poise of Eduardo is something that we haven’t seen on a while. Next to him maybe Suker. We haven’t seen the likes of those two since, and Eduardo would have arguably been the best goal scorer for Croatia had that accident not happened.
Agree 100%. Eduardo is the only one that comes close to the goal scoring instincts of Suker. Its what our current team lacks. That pure goal scorer that can bury one when things aren’t there. Eduardo had more finishing ability in his left pinky toe, than all our current strikers combined.
Dinamo – Hajduk 4 – 1.
Hajduk leading 1 – 0 till 60 minute, when their import Awaziem makes a huge mistake and gifts Dinamo a goal. It has to be said, nice finish by Baturina.
Two minutes later Kalinic in goal should have done better to stop a headed goal from Ademi. Hajduk opens up and is caught on the break to give Dinamo a well deserved win.
I think the key differences between Dinamo and Hajduk this evening were the quality of the midfield and wide backs. Dinamo controlled around 65% of possession and managed 18 shots. That’s too many scoring opportunities. Borevkovic and Awaziem both made mistakes that practically put the ball in the Hajduk net, but they were also in the heat of the action the whole match and made quite a few key interventions. Same goes for Kalinić. The seven saves seems incompatible with the scoreline. Hajduk’s A-team is as good as Dinamo’s if not better, but the replacements for Melnjak, Mikanović and Sahiti were obvious downgrades. And Krovinović was no hero tonight either. Without Melnjak and Sahiti flanking him, he was ineffective.
The midfield was a huge difference. I didn’t even watch the game but the stats speak volumes, Hajduk had very little ball control, you cannot win games like that. It hasn’t been the first time they struggled like this, they need to develop that centre line.
As true Real Modrić supporter I quite enjoy the irony of farca taking a crap on De jong after he was supposed to replace Rakitic.
Mas que en club
Po pizda !!
Tomorrow is the world class water cooler watch.
The Milan highlights if anyone cares, Rebic goals at 1:00 and 2:09
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYqY9h24xgU
Yes. Thank you Iggy. I did not see it. That sucking of the thumb after scoring has got to go. Others do that too. The second goal celebrating might be alright as we trudge along
@ Slanina
To je to.
@ Svima
Rebić is Rebić.
He provided a certain skill set.
We don’t need him to save us but he can add that explosive power and pressing.
He looks physically confident and his technique has always been underrated.
Part of winning the World Cup is having depth.
Call him up for September and see how he looks.
Two goals for Rebic- Ajde Zlatko, sjedni s njim, pojedi pršut, popij rakiju i popravi se
Rebic with two goals, Milan up 4-2.
WARNING, WARNING…… Dejan Lovren alert…….
He’s currently playing full matches and captaining what is the 1st place team in Russia. This is very bad news.
This is all Dalic needs to hear.
Lovren is starting in Qatar, lol.
wouldn’t mind him in the squad but should mainly be a backup option or if there is in need for rotation.
My preferred starting centre-backs from now on are Gvardiol-Erlic.
Rebić looking his explosive Self for the reigning Serie A champions AC Milan.
He can’t play 60/30 minute shifts for us?
I need Boban to intervene with an Imotski special.
He can play left wing and center forward.
He can also play as a second striker.
Jebi ga he can play right wing as well.
Call him up for September and see how he does.
As he starts heating up for the scudetto holders can we include Rebić on the water cooler rotation?
From what I read in reviews Rebic made.mistakes in this game as well even though he scored, I am not saying he is not trying but he needs to work on ball control and possession.
I believe, from what I read in the player ratings, he had a mistake which led to a goal on the other teams part. That is not a good thing, so again waiting to see his mid-season stats. But I will say a good start in terms of goal scoring and presence in front of the net. Those goals looked much better than what I saw from him in the past.
Hope everyone is having a great summer especially those lucky enough to be in dalmatia.
I’m thinking of subscribing to HRT to get some croatian news and hopefully all the NT matches.
Does anyone else do that, does it work? Do you get all the soccer games?
I’m looking at this but it’s an old article… https://www.croatiaweek.com/how-to-access-new-tv-channel-for-croatians-abroad/
Apologies if this was already covered! Bog!
You can either get an IPTV box (that is preprogrammed with all the Croatian channels that you can connect to and watch on your TV) or you can sign up for SaaN.tv (which allows you to stream it on your laptop (it costs 14kN per month for SaaN.tv but you’ll have to sign up with a Croatian address, in which case you’d just use a relative’s since the registration address doesn’t matter).
For SaaN you’ll need to download the Internet Explorer extension to your Chrome browser to make it work (since SAAN runs on Silverlight, which is only compatible with Internet Explorer).
IPTV usually is the best option (if you’re allowed to do it in your city) and there are people that will set it up for you like a cable guy would do. You’ll have to Google who sells them in your area.
SaaN isn’t a bad option, and it’s pay-as-you-go monthly. It only gives you the HRT channels, Nova, and a few other Croatian channels. IPTV boxes usually give you alot more (including the HNL games that are not show on HRT channels).
Either option will give you the Croatia National Team games though.
Maminjo
I’m in the Toronto GTA area. For the IPTV box will it show the Croatian news and Dinamo games? Do I pay on a monthly basis for these channels?
Yes. It will show you all possible Cro channels (news and Dinamo games).
They’ll probably charge you for the year.
thanks for the info … will check these out..
Majer below average game
Gvardiol with an OG
The own goal came off of a deflection in tight. Not much he could do.
Butemir sitting on bench
Kramaric miss penalty
Colak may lose his spot to morelos soon
Kovacic injured
Stanisic, Musa and simic, hopefully can get even a few min off the bench..
Early season blues, huh?
Colak just scored in for the third match in a row. Not sure how his spot is threatened…
Everyone misses penalties here and there, good that Krama got it out of the way early. He’s still Hoffenheims best player
Simic isn’t even 19 years-old. Absolutely nothing to worry about yet
And since you’re worried about strikers, don’t forget to mention that Ljubicic is the most in-form talent in world football and Rebic is starting as Milan’s 9 today! 😉
We’re alllllll good
AZ should have my screen name, and then I can change to Great Anonymous Clown
We gotta talk this guy off the ledge. I feel like this is a cry for help. 🙂
Colak looks to find the net third competitive game in a row for Glasgow rangers.
Can marin ljubicic continue his incredible form for LASK in the austrian league? He has 9 goals in his first 4 competitive games so far.
Lovro majer had an outstanding first season in france. Rennes list their first game of the season last weekend. Can majer bounce back with a top performance this weekend?
Luka sucic. Finished last season very strong with RB Leipzig but yet to make an impact this season. Can he begin to dominate the league this season. He’s good enough.
Will we see petar musa or roko simic get minutes for benfica and salzburg respectively?
Borna Sosa missed last weekends season opener amidst transfer rumours linking him with moves to a big team. Will Stuttgart best player play this weekend?
Gvardiol also missed last weekend’s game for Leipzig. He’s staying at leipzig this season despite interest from every top team in Europe. Will gvardiol take another step forward this season and become the worlds best defender?
Kovacic didnt play for chelsea last weekend for some reason and some on this site have speculated his place is under threat. That’s nonsense, kovacic is Chelsea’s best midfielder and will soon be pulling the strings again.
Perisic started on the bench, first premier league game. This was a good decision from Conte as perisic is recently returned from injury. Ryan sessegnon played instead of perisic and opened the scoring for Tottenham. Spurs have a huge season ahead as they play in 4 competitions and want to challenge for titles. Expect perisic to have a good season and start for Tottenham in the big games.
Tune in next week for Crnkovic’s analysis!
Same black time, same black channel!
