With 12 games played in the Prva Liga season thus far, Hajduk Split sit in tenth place and have just 15 points with four wins and five defeats. So what is wrong with the runners up of last season’s Croatian Championship? Although Hajduk sold two key players in the summer, Nikola Kalinić and Drago Gabrić, the remainder of last season’s team stayed on board as well as adding eight new faces. Hajduk also have one of the biggest squad’s in the league with a roster of 33 first-team players.
With only one striker (Ante Vukušić) having managed to score a goal this season, it is clear that Hajduk miss Kalinić. Senijad Ibričić has also recorded only 3 goals, with Romanian Florin Cernat failing to contribute as well in that department. Hajduk Split are already into their third manager since Ivica Kalinić was taken ill and replaced by Italian coach Edy Reja. Although there were claims of improvement following victories over Istra 1961, NK Zagreb, Lokomotiva and Varteks, Hajduk have continually come up short against all the sides that are placed above them in the table. Has Hajduk made any improvements through appointing Reja in place of Ante Miše? Is a change of coach the answer or will Hajduk continue to struggle until they change the playing staff again in January?
SHOULD TORCIDA BAIL ON HAJDUK, HERE’S THE NEW FAN CLUB
It’S disappointing to see that Hajduk, with their 33 professionals (only four of which are 18 or under) cannot reach the top 5 of the table. Ultimately player wages will leave Hajduk financially crippled. The club in fact are only able to offer Josip Skoko and Goran Rubil a free transfer at the end of the season, with all the other players under long term contracts. Hajduk would therefore be required to compensate any player whose contract they wish to terminate. Hajduk can also sell many of their current players to raise transfer funds without going back into financial difficulty. Goalkeeper Daniel Subačić and Bosnian international Senijad Ibričić appear to be their biggest assets; but apart from them Hajduk will struggle to bring money in for major signings in January.
Hajduk also have reserve players Dario Jertec, Ivan Rodić, Ivo Smoje, Marin Tomasov and Marijan Buljat all on big contracts and will be looking to offload them as soon as possible. Youngsters Duje Čop, Mario Tičinović and Ante Vukušić are also without much first team action. However, money is also tight around the rest of the division. NK Zagreb and HNK Rijeka will particularly be hunting new players, whilst Slaven Belupo and Šibenik may enter the transfer market should Bojan Vručina and Ermin Zec respectively gain their much deserved transfers. Much of the division will be satisfied with their squads and will be unable to live beyond their means. Osijek and Karlovac particularly have to reap the benefits of recruiting from the lower divisions or from within their own youth teams. Varteks Dražen Besek has also indicated that youth may be their best way of taking steps forward.
It is believed that Hajduk will try to grab Slovenian Etien Velikonja as a prime player in the near future. Ante Serić and Josip Skoko are all advancing in age and require replacements, but Hajduk do have Croatian Under 21 internationals Krešimir Ljubičić and Goran Jozinović to step in if neccessary. Hajduk also appear to be living beyond their means with five left midfielders on their books in Ibričić, Anas Sharbini, Tomasov, Cernat and Tičinović. This would suggest that Ibričić has to go in January so they can readjust their team and buy a quality striker. Reja’s attempts to turn Anas into a striker has thus far failed and it is likely the player will start deteriating unless he plays his natural position.
RUMORS ARE CIRCULATING THAT TORCIDA WILL BOYCOTT THE DINAMO GAME THIS SATURDAY
In hindsight, was the signing of the Sharbini brothers neccessary? Elder brother Ahmad may prove an asset in time as he arrived with an injury, but Anas arguably stunts the progress of players they hoped would become key figures in the future such as Tičinović and Tomasov. It clearly appears clear that neither of the Sharbini brothers are happy with the current formation being employed by Reja. It would be fair to say that if Hajduk continue to lose, Reja may have to leave. However, he may be allowed to stay on board until the transfer window to see if any changes can be made that can alter the club’s fortunes. Hajduk face Dinamo this Saturday in Split and the team will regard it a must win game if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top three of the division.
Will Hajduk be able to turn their miserable season around? A win against Dinamo would definitely spark some confidence going into the winter break.
Dinamo can do a lot of things….ban these guys from attending home matches, revoke tickets, prosecute at last resort. There are a bunch of things that can be done. Fans of all other teams can control their fans or is it that maybe their fans are just smart enough to relaize they will hurt their club by doing something wrong. Looks like the dinamo fans cant put that together in their idiotic heads.
I mean wasn't Mamic attacked during this match they point too. So its not exactly part of us. These people set out to do this anyway, so Dinamo is an innocent bystander. Whilst forcing us again to play behind closed doors, and taking three points, why don't they give us some idea what they want us do. What are we supposed to do? Our players and coaching staff who worked so hard to get us into this position do not deserve this. We shouldn't have to sell our best players just cos UEFA takes away our chance of competitive football. We want to keep Lovren, Badelj for at least 2 more years. We can sell Vrdoljak and consider letting Mandzo go once a replacement has come in, but that's all. There is no way we should demolish the side just cos of UEFA. We should put in the appeal and also complain that UEFA has done nothing to help us. Dinamo is a football club. It can't control the general public. What are they asking for.. banning orders? We definitely can't stop fans doing things outside stadiums.
Well, at this point Dinamo is going to have an extremely difficult time getting out of their group. My advice: SELL, SELL, SELL! The January transfer window is a fresh opportunity to cash in and move on from on some players (Sammir, Mandzukic) as well as get rid of bad investments like Slepicka and Papadopolous. Even without these players, Dinamo have the talent to easily win the HNL this season.
Let this punishment from UEFA serve as a reminder to our NT navijaci. We have a reputation for pushing the limits on fan behavior, and this should be the last time something like this happens to a Croatian team, club or country. I would rather a club team be deducted points and punished as opposed to the Vatreni during a qualifying campaign.
I am absolutely stunned they are taking 3 points off us. That's spoilt our whole season. Again its only the smaller clubs they do this to.
When UEFA do these things do they even look into the circumstances. Like perhaps that some of our so called fans do these things to harm people on the board they don't like. They've achieved there aim cos that's ruined everything for us. We had a chance to progress and now we have no chance. Its shocking. Its like there is whirlpool where anyone trying to do something successfully in Croatia ultimately gets sucked down by corruption, mafia or a few individuals. I don't even know what's left to look forward to now this season. No World Cup, no Europa Liga run and no competitive league. Its just really frustrating.
It was bound to happen with Dinamo, i just feel sorry for the normal fan including the players who have to be punished because of these idiots, hopefully they can figure out something to punish the individuals'group' instead of punishing the team, because i hardly doubt it will stop, in fact the first game bbb are allowed to attend they will probably cause caos for revenge to UEFA
about time those BBB animals got what they deserved.
So on the plus side, Dinamo have once again been fined by UEFA for the actions of BBB.

3 points (Thus putting their total at 0) and 2 matches behind closed doors.
Who cares if they boycot. maybe it will lead to violence outside the stadium when these sets of idiots meet.
Correction: I meant supporter, not player. Plus the police were involved…banners were not able to be put up, a huge mess.
And by dry I mean drywall.
It was the death of one BBB from within a supporters group? The police did nothing about it and prevented their signs/banners into Maksimir……..
It's a hot topic amongst a few Croatian sites, and lots of people share your views that it's a stupid move.
I know for another football club close to me, there were talks of walk-outs, not showing up, leaving at a certain time in a game, or just not chanting. Absolutely nothing panned out because it, and nothing changed. They just painted over a water damaged piece of dry to cover it up.
The one in 2008 against Sibenik did have to do with the death of one of their players and I'm not too familiar with the one in 2004. The team was relegated to the bottom of the league round-robin tournament.
I believe the Torcida boycotted before as well back in either 2000 or 2004.
Both groups are idiots when boycotts are involved because they don't work. You turn your back to your club…a big no no for me. But I can kind of "forgive" the one in 2008.
Correct me if I'm wrong Ante BBB…..but didn't the BBB boycott the club in 2007 when they played Sibenik?
I know it involved the death of one of their own………….
Didn't they also do some form of boycott in 2004 when the team was nearly relegated to 2nd division?
Like I said……forgive if my facts aren't 100% accurate.
The boycott won't accomplish anything.
The Torcida are idiots who just turned their backs on their own club no matter how you attempt to spin it.
I hope Kramaric wipes the floor with Hajduk.
I u nebo s njim…

I really hope something GOOD comes out of this………we need a strong Hajduk in the league to have any chance of remote success, among other teams (Rijeka, Slaven, Osijek, Sibenik). Our league will never be the way it was, but just to get it to mid-euro quality would be just fine with me.
I think Oremus is suffering cos Hajduk bought Anas Sharbini and didn't sell Ibricic and also trying to accomodate Cernat. If Hajduk sold Ibricic or didn't buy Anas they wouldn't have a problem fitting in Oremus or making room for Ticinovic on their bench. I think they should ask Skoko to search for a club in Australia as well in winter cos he already stated he intends to go so i think they should put Ljubicic in his place and let him progress.
Last night i thought Eduardo had a really progressive game for Arsenal. He really put his fitness to the test against Skrtel and played a good strong physical game. I think this is what he needed to test his injuries and the fact he came through it bodes well for the future.
Kramaric scored two great strikes last night for Dinamo. I hope Jurcic starts him ahead of Papa and Sivonjic at the weekend.

It seems like a symbol of the problems at Hajduk that a young player like Oremus- who lit it up against the Serbs- can't get a real run-out. If Hajduk were at/near the top of the table I'd understand the reticence in changing what works- but to bench an obviously hungry, young player (Oremus) who's right now full of confidence even when the first 11 aren't performing is either stuborness or stupidity.

Sorry, you dont pay absurd transfer prices with that business model.
Ante Rukavina took both his goals very very well.
Former German Under 19 player and soon to be Croatia Under 21 player, Boris Vukcevic received his second cap for 1899 Hoffenheim, in the 4 – 0 cup win in the DFB Pokal. Sadly, Ivan Rakitic did not feature once again.
I have a real good feeling about this crop of Under 21s. If they can remain healthy and Bilic can let Ladic have first pick of his desired youngsters, they can make a run. Kalinic, Perisic, Jajalo, Lovren, Barbaric, Rakitic, Vida, Oremus, Ljubicic, Tomecak, Jozinovic and Kramaric together, thats a strong group of players. If Ticinovic starts to get some regular playing time, bounce him between all three levels of the Under 17, 19 and 21s. The same thing Spain did with Bojan. They got him as much playing time as he could between all levels in the same year. The kid would be with the Under 19s one week and two weeks later be playing with the Under 21s. It an aggressive approach, but well worth it.
As for Hajduk, why even talk about them? I love the club, but, it is plagued with corruption and incompetence. Many of you point out the flaws and give great answers to to cure their ills. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. Nobody seems to listen to reason in that club. Perhaps now that Kerum has allot of his own money tied to the club, he will see that its within his own interest to emulate the business model that Dinamo has imported to Croatia. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, Mamic has seen what clubs like Porto, Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Arsenal, Ajax, Seville and Barcelona have done. You start with your youth system, stick to your 5 year plan. All the clubs mentioned have a majority of their first team that came through the youth set up. That is economical, you do pay absurd transfer prices, you also create a great culture within the club. It motivates the youth when they know they will get opportunities and not just rot on the bench. Hajduk seems to accumulate talent with no real purpose, there is no ultimate design they are trying to follow. Basically, if you are capable and available, they make a run for you. Complete rubbish. I LOVE what Osijek is doing. They are sticking to their plan and their vision.
I jedna ce Torcida plakati ovu noc…
I agree with you on Oremus. He should be treated at Hajduk like we treat Badelj. Badelj remains in our team whether he plays good or bad and is encouraged to express himself. Same with Lovren. Lovren is only 20 but has already 50 games in a Dinamo shirt. Tomecak has also been a revelation and Barbaric is getting a bit better i suppose. I'm really disappointed Loncaric got injured and he looked good last few games.
Back to Hajduk though i think they could draw up a transfer list. IBRICIC should be sold, JERTEC, SKOKO, MARIJIAN BULJAT, RODIC, SMOJE, PARAIBA, THIAQUINHO (never once played) should all go. I doubt Cernat, Vejic, Seric and Andric will leave and who knows what they do about Tomasov. They've still even got Mladen Pelaic to come back yet. I mean who in their right mind needs 5 centre backs who all expect to be in the first team and 5 left wingers and 4 central midfielders, no right back and only 1 striker of any kind of experience. Its lucky Aracic got injured as that'll be another player to accomodate. NIGHTMARE!
2 Goals for Rukavina in the Greek Cup today.
Hajduk's problems are always internal and letting agents and managers dictate what goes on the field. Maybe with this Italian as coach that wont be the case, but I have to wonder if he is tied to an agent that has players at hajduk.
I have always been an advocate of hajduk playing the kids. I would dump every player over the age of 27 and give a 10-game run to the kids. To me, finishing 2nd or 16the in the HNL is the same shit. Hajduk needs to develop their juniors and we need to find out if these kids can play.
Little Oremus looks great against the Serbs in the u-21 game and gets no playing time.
I think this was my attempt to make sense of Hajduk Split as 20 different bits of news comes out that club each week. This weeks being that Ibricic apparently not being happy with his contract and also about Hajduk's Croatia under 21 international Ljubicic being unhappy at being in the stands. I think Hajduk have gone against all the fundamentals of running a football club. With 33 professionals on their books and that's not counting any potential youth team player that could come through. This creates inevitable bad atmosphere.
I am not sure what Hajduk will do next. I doubt they can afford to sack Reja. That Kalinic money is just gonna go really quick once they start compensating players they don't want and they will never get a player to walk away from a contract so Svasgusa can forget that.
I definitely think Ibricic has to go in the winter. They can't have Ibricic and Anas Sharbini on the staff, plus also trying to bring through Mirko Oremus. Ibricic was saying a couple weeks back that he'd never go to Dinamo, but i don't see why not. Its not like he's from Split. I'm not being arrogant when i say going from Hajduk to Dinamo is a step up these days. For Hajduk Ibricic messes up the whole formation. He's not a striker. He's a playmaker. But Hajduk really need two up top as they are the big force expected to win matches. It'd make sense i think to sell Ibricic and sign Vrucina. They can't buy any more guys like Rodic who are not proven over a long period.
Well written and accurate, but nthing groundbreaking about Hajduk. This is the accumulation of years of mismanagement.
I still think by the end of the season they will finish in the top 3 (not saying much).
