Two weeks ago, Zadar-born Croatian comic, Ivan Šarić, uploaded a ‘video job application’ to be Jon Stewart’s senior correspondent for Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The U.S. based political satire show, which also runs in Canada, reports on current world events, adding a splash of comedy for good measure.
In an interview with CroatianSports.com, Šarić shared a bit of his background as well as his motivation for this viral internet video push.
“The first time I was on stage was in Zagreb in 2005. I was really scared! But to this day, I think it was one of my top three gigs in my life! I left the stage and I knew I had found my calling. I’ve been a professional comedian while earning a living for 4-5 years now. The best gig I had was in Beograd, Serbia. It was my first time in Serbia after the war ended. I was terrified but it turned out amazing! At the end of my act I said:
“OK, people. I have a request and I hope I earned it. I want to take a picture with you, but not an ordinary picture. I respect that this is Serbia and I hope I earned your respect. So, I want everybody to put 3 fingers in the air because it’s the symbol of Serbia. But, don’t get mad, because I will put two fingers up because it’s the symbol of Croatia. So that’s 2400 fingers against 2! If you get mad, then you are a fucking prick!”
Everybody laughed and clapped and we took a picture together. One of the best moments in my life!
“Culture is a big part of my stand-up act. Balkan people are a tough audience, they don’t impress easily. So, you have to really work the crowd.”
Šarić’s television career started on MTV ADRIA as a VJ in 2004. Three years later he started working for RTL in Croatia, but stand up was always his first love. Šarić has been watching “The Daily Show” for eight years now, and since day one, has always been blown away by the program.
“I wanted to be a part of it, but for obvious reasons and the fact that I live thousands and thousands of miles away, I couldn’t just walk up to him (Jon Stewart) and ask for a job,” Šarić said.
“The idea of working with Jon Stewart side-by-side was something that was bugging me…(that) some comedian from Croatia is trying to get a job on the most successful TV show in America. That sounds like a really, really bad joke.”
When asked if Šarić supports Hajduk or Dinamo, he cooly replied with, “KK Zadar! U srcu betoniran!”
@Ante B,
You’re too sensitive on the subject. You’re a bright dude, one of the smartest on the site. However, when your emotions take over, your iq drops.
Yes, we are all promoting serbs and we are dividing croatians around the world. Unbelievable reasoning.
@Ziva Istina,
A personal question for you: Do you have any kids of your own(That you know about) ?
.
Agree with you both.
It’s insensitive, but so is a lot of really good comedic material (Dave Chappelle anyone?)
I remember someone once raving about Bill Cosbys comedy being great because he doesn’t swear or talk about offensive things, yet he can be really funny. Much harder than you’d think…
@ Svircic
That’s your opinion.
Sorry I should add what the picture says,
“Bratstvo i jedinstvo drugovi jer smo braca”
Excellent then for next week I propose we do the Serbian comedy of Vukovar, Skabrnja and Srebrenica with the tri prsta. I’m sure that’ll be a knee slapped too.
Fisto,
Your reasoning and examples are invalid.
I will not go into the “tri prsta” definition because I am not well educated on it and for the most part I could care less about what it really means. I do know that the “tri prsta” are used by ALL Serbians as well as Cetniks. KKK masks are only used by KKK or KKK supporters. Swastika is used only by Nazis and nazi supporters not by all Germans.
This article was posted under “Tuesday Night funnies”. You can find it funny or you can be offended by it. I laughed at the video and didn’t think that the picture or idea to take a picture like that was funny but at the same time I wasn’t offended.
Comedians poke fun at religion, race, and politics all the time. Nothing new.
@Ante B……well said.
Let me break it down to everyone who doesn’t understand…
The 3 finger Serb salute is a very offensive gesture. To me, and a lot of other Croats out there, It’s probably worse than giving someone “the finger.” The fact that it would be put up on a Croatian website is a joke.
I’ll give you some examples, when was the last time you saw a swastika on a jewish website? KKK masks to African Americans? I can go on and on and on. Maybe for some, it doesn’t bother you. But for me, and many others, it does. It’s an insensitive picture and it should have never been put up in the first place.
this site is full of degenerates spewing all sorts of nonsense. Hey dummies most of u pussies are in the diaspora and have an option to be in cro and aren’t. You should blame you parents for failing you.
Im just not into the ustase from world war 1 i wish that Hrvatska did happen back then but that wasnt the way to do it. I know my history very well.
Then you should add June 25, Oct 15 and May 1
I only respect May 30, August 5,1995
My routes are not Ustase.
Ziva,
I bet you most guys thought “povijest…historija…same thing.” But naturally it isn’t.
Momci, know this……if you dont know the significance of 10-ti Travanj, then your parents have failed you.
I don’t want to go all political because this is a sports website, but being a Hrvat is much more than being a jock-sniffing sports fan who wears a checkered jersey.
I was czar of the world I would require all hrvati in the dispaora to pass a test and know their history (povijest for most of you, historija for some of you) before they were allowed to watch a cro sporting event.
Lebonese, kept on hearing stories of people getting bullied walking by the beach .Not all but a minority, would stick together and treat outsiders, aussies like shit, the aussies had enough and got together and thats where the riot happened.I’m Australian Croatian, small group of lebos were cunts, the riots were pretty bad but you can’t insult women or men from walking in their own country.To the point, i didn’t hear a single bad word about a Croatian, it’s because they wern’t playing boce.
Now Axl is a douche. Let me ask you a Question Kresco…when those beach riots were going on a few years ago againist those muslims was there any backlash against Croatians?
@Elvis, they supported Guns and Roses about a month ago,with axl rose offcourse..
Kreso is Rose Tattoo still around down there?
Ok brother peace be upon you.
@Timmo, wrong thread brother, was asking what Deseti Trananj meant to you, that word Douche-american
@Kresso
OiOi Aussie what are you talking about?
@Kreso
Douche what are you talking about?
cool, i’m Australian, give me your point of view then.
@Kreso
Not directly.
If you are you can fuck yourself in the arse, if not, have a nice day!
@Timmo, you talking about me?
@Ziva
This is the product of a multicultural USA society. Ask those kids who Jayzee is !! Sramota!!
Mandzo will score a hatrick and salute between his butcheeks!
Communists, class of 91ers, self-haters, and non-political people, lease avert your eyes.
SRETAN DESETI TRAVANJ SVIM PRAVIM I ISTINSKIM HRVATIMA DILJEM SVIJETA!

On another note, i wanna see Mandzo score today and do another salute!
anyone been to Hercegovina lately, i would like to know, it’s where my parents are from and i havn’t been there lately, will go soon.Was talking to my grandmother recently, parents are from Konjic.She told me that the muslims have no body to talk to on the street, life used to be better, the neighbours are gone, because they killed them, well not them , brothers or cousins.I would like to get another point of view from their from someone.
because parents and society have failed them.
Even today’s parents are bad. I even see if with my generation of hrvati who are now parents. Terrible. They care more about their mommy activities on the PTA or dance recitals instead of teaching their kids croatian and how to pray in croatian. I feel bad for some of the my freinds’ children. They don’t have a good role model in their parents and will not have a clue about anything Hrvatstvo.
Guys I dont like the music but thats youth. Why do white kids listen to gangsta rap?
Haven’t been in awhile but the crowd i do know do not condone that shit!
Maybe its different if you’re young and you grew up with that shit but anyone over 30 should have no excuse for listening to their music.
You might say your parents failed you but i’ll just say that something definitely went wrong along the way.
This is why I only listen to Hajduk music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Prj13cq7dOk
Can we say that this turbofolk is some conspiracy dreamed up by that Hannibal Lector Karadzic. Who by the way was caught on our beaches.
Well, you haven’t been to hecegovina much or you hang with a small, but good crowd, when there.
Plenty of that turbo serbo nonsense throughout hercegovina (and parts of Cro as well), especially in the summer months. You can’t drive through Hercegovina without missing the signs advertising serb singers. It’s a bad epidemic up there.
CECA is an ardent chetnik. She even has workshops on how Serbs need to have more children. I would blaze her face all night but we really should not listen to her crap.
love the jealousy keep it coming Ivo
Shhhh dont mention Guidos Nije Bitno is around.
@Ziva
Nobody i know listens to that shit! I don’t hang out with a bunch of Jersey Shore watching, techno loving, 20 year olds that listen to that turbo-Serbo shit either. Thats for Hajduk loving Dalmatinci.
I was expecting better from you 🙂
@Poglavnik…..Would that celebration be taking place after or before they go to their local cafe and listen to likes of Mile Kitic and other serb singers?
@Poglavnik
The problem is that some have been conditioned to believe that Hercegovina is not Croatian.
@Ziva
Go to Hercegovina where real Hrvati are from and you’ll see some celebrating!
@ziva, wasn’t having a go, just asking.I allways remember it as being Croatian national day, it’s how i was brought up.
It also shows who the men are and who the pizde are. Hence the anonymous name!
It’s funny, you can tell who the educated people on this site are just by their views on society.
It means something to me, but I’m a rare breed.
@ziva, what does it mean to you where your from?
remote selo
Nobody in Cro celebrates desti travanj. And by nobody I mean the majority of the country, not your dying dida and his freinds in a remore selo.

Sammir will be celebrating Deseti Travanj.
Fuck Sammir and his Turbofolk crap.
Sretan Deseti Travanj svima.

Sretan Deseti Travanj svim Hrvatima (at least to those of you who celebrate it or know what it is).
To those of you who don’t, you can go back listening to your serb music.

We had no army just a bunch of police officers with Mauser rifles. The serbs had a full arsenal. They beat, raped, and killed at will. When we finally armed ourselves they ran like little shits. Remember those who are not with us. Remember the battle of Dalmatia when those lazy Dalmatians(according to Ziva) stopped them cold.
Also some of you kids need to study and learn more about the war. Cetnik scum did all sorts of inhumane crimes. Male rape was one. Remember that the next time you are dancing to that turbo crap.
I think the issue is that for so long we have fought to free ourselves from Serbian domination and annexation. We finally break through in the 1990s and send most of them packing. Serb nationalist state that we are nothing more than Catholic Serbs who have betrayed slavdom. Since the Balkan wars ended and Serbia free herself from the Turkish yolk she has followed a policy of reclaiming her manifest destiny which is to rule SE Europe. Domination can be violent or they can kill us softly through civil rights bullshit, music, mixed marriages etc. They are coming back with a kinder and gentler form of expansion. If 30% of our government is Serbian then it has begun. Next our government will enact hate crime laws which will silence us. Keep voting for those ex-communists. France and England would like nothing more than to help their old ally. During the war the English government was our second biggest enemy. Now I understand that not all Serbs think this way and they are people just like us. However, we must maintain our independence. Our goverment will not do this. It has to start in our homes and we need to stand united.
ZA DOM SPREMNI!!!!
I get back from work and have 60 comments to read!
First, yes, I do know that its “all about the money” and Saric has every right to put on a show in Beograd if that was his only option. From the looks of it, that was his only option. Chances are that comedians in croatia make less money than journalists in croatia. For some reason, I looked at Saric as a comedian in the states with options.
Also, I unfairly compared Saric to Prljavo or Prodano Kazaliste. By doing so, I am comparing apples and oranges as Prljavo doesnt need a paycheck and have plenty of options elsewhere. Miso wont go to Beograd. Bulic told me that he had offers to play at muslim halls around the states and refused to be bought.
Second, “I dont understand why Hrvati listen to Cajke and Serbs listen to Miso Kovac”
now, I do understand why. The Croatian youth is tired of croatian music. Have you listened to croatian top 40 or narodni radio? They play the same 20 songs over and over and over. I get sick of it just listening to it for a month straight let alone 12 months of the year. Also, the youth is stupid. They listen to what is hip what is cool, top 40. Here in the states the youth listens to hip hop and top 40.
Growing up in the states it was all day all night Miso, Oliver, Skender, etc etc from my parents. It got to the point where I hated Croatian music in my early teens. As I grew older and payed attention to the lyrics did I realize how great the music really is.
third, why all the hate?
“index-west” ” Index California”
@Lebo,
“there is only so many places you can go in Croatia to do a comedy act, and there is only so much material you have as a comedian. His material was going to get old going to the same clubs and seeing the same people.”
I agree. Well said.
“Music is a universal language.”
I agree. But Cajke suck. I get much more out of the lyrics from music than I do with a funky beat.
@ Ante B,
“Saying the pic is not funny and that it’s a disappointment to the website are two different messages.” ~Kvartuc
I am with Kvartuc on this one. I would have posted the article without the picture, but I am not super against it as it goes with the story.
“You’re not being singled out sensitive guy, you’re being remembered. You’re a personality on this website.” ~kvartuc
I agree as well. You’re a huge part of this website.
“Why put it up?…. Kinda seems like you wanted the reaction.” ~Ante B,
Even if he did want a reaction, so what? The article was up as a news story which was relevant to the topic. If little man gets off at seeing people go ballistic on the site then all the best to him. Most people on here get off for various reasons. Ziva does his thing, you do your thing, HAET would do his thing etc etc. But you cant take away the fact that this was a legit story.
@Fisto,
#1 website was made for people in diaspora as well as croatian fans around the world including croatians in croatia.
#2 What does this article or picture do to “divide” Croatians? I dont get it.
#3 Yes, this article was meant to divide Croatians and promote serbs and cetniks. Are you serious?
#4 Again, I dont see the “dividing”. How?
@Luka,
“Oliver 100 times a day”…
I can’t even listen to myself 100 times a day. I get where you are going with this though. For the most part, I think its the youth of croatia that listen to cajke.
You make a good point that croatian music is more than just a beat. The music videos and lyrics tell so much more.
.
Im with Ziva! i wouldnt put blame on anyone other than yourselves though.
Once the Ganga started at my house you knew it was time to cut Tata off of the rakija 🙂
My house was one of the houses in the la community where tamburasi would come over and play throughout the night with my dida in the 80s and 90s. It was also the place where my dad sang ganga every now and then. Huge failures.
listening to serb music = another failure on the part of your parents
I’ll never understand it, but then again I’m a hrvat unlike some of you.
Also, I’m guessing a lot of you listen to homosexual musicians but are super critical of their sexual orientations.
Same shit as listening to Serb music in my mind…
@19Miro50
Difference between Modric and Lovren is one’s a great footballer and the other is a great athlete that can’t read the game for the life of him!
Wish him all the best but every time I watch him I get the sense that he’s only made it this far because of his athleticism, heart and size.
One final thing for everyone on this:
If you consider yourself Croatian, then you’re probably a Catholic. Forgiveness is one of the main teachings promoted throughout the entire teaching of Catholicism. I’m not a church going man much these days, but I still believe in a higher power and justice in the end(in however form it may come).
I’m not saying you have to love these people, be the godfather of their children, do business with them , or much of anything. But to hate an entire race of people for your entire life due to something that their parents or grandparents did is mind boggling. Obviously human nature doesn’t allow for immediate forgiveness, otherwise we’d live in a fucking utopia, but there is something seriously wrong for hate to endure that long.
In the end, I’m not supporting these people but I’m not really hating them either. I can’t really hate somebody I don’t know, and in this case…if they put some guy on the radio ripping the accordion apart…I’m not going to stop listening to it because of where it comes from.
Hate is what breeds war, which is what we’re all pissed about. So maybe you learn to get over it so history doesn’t repeat itself…..but we all know that’s not something the mob of humanity can accomplish.
You not understanding is exactly the reason I’m not going to argue with you about it. Two different people with two different ways of looking at the world. Enjoy.
Damn iPad, apologies for the spelling.
@Ante B.
Prijatelj drinks are on me.
@goldenchild
actually you broke my heart with that explanation of yours for listening to Serbian music. You trying to justify your reasons makes no sense at all. Enjoy your Ceca music, at least she has big tits.
Actually I broke her heart and not a Dalmatinac but Croat. Love Dalmatija just like all of Croatia. You should watch some of Oliver videos they have spectacular views of the coast. I doubt you will get that watching some of your Serb videos.
@Luka
Being invaded by Cirilic and listening to a particular type of music are two very different things. For me, it’s unfortunate that you guys really can’t look at the obvious differences.
Music is a universal language.
From a scientific study: “Regardless of culture or previous exposure, people were accurately able to recognize three emotions in Western music – happiness, sadness and fear.”
You’re sticking an external value to music, while I’m just listening to it because I just like the sound of it. You shaking your head at me for liking music from those side of the tracks is like me shaking my head at my friends for listening to country. The key difference here is that I don’t like the sound of the music, and I’m not judging them as a person for listening to it.
Also, I’m sorry if you’re listening to Oliver that much. She either broke your heart pretty bad, or you are a dalmatinac =). (nothing wrong with the last one)
@ Ante i like to think of them from the early 80s late 90s i know what they did but the worst of them all was Tereza kesovija Kurva.
Remember also the most srbs from serbia dont hate croatia its the ethnic serbs from croatia that hate croatia and Hrvati.
You mean Prodano Kazaliste?
@Luka 70 % of youth in Croatia listen to turbo folk nardodna glazba thats a trend. as far as Thompson goes many lost respect for him in past 6 years, I hate this Cajka crap im only Vuco,more of Dalmatinske , and rock Zivo Blato Azra, Opca Opastnost, Prljavo even if they sung in beograd,my bosnian bands such Crvena Jabuka, Dugme,Tifa.
Luka,
If I ever meet you, drinks on me.
Sometimes I just have to shake my head. Croatian is being invaded by cirilica and now we have people loving this Serb music and finding Croatian music so depressing. I would rather listen to Oliver 100 times a day over some Cajke crap. What will next week bring us?? Thompson is also depressing and instead we should be listening to Ceca.
Dortmund were gifted that game. A hand ball by the Serb to poke it to oncoming traffic for the second goal, and the entire wall of players were offside for Dortmund on the last goal.
Real and Galatassary was INTENSE. Could you imagine if Snijder didn’t miss that sitter. We could have witnessed one of the worst meltdowns in Champions League history.
In other news, UEFA is said to have punished Stark for the blunders in the tie against Barca – PSG. Supposedly the front office wrote a letter for a series of events that ended up leading to a goal. UEFAlona is still strong http://footballrefereeing.blogspot.com/2013/04/uefa-reproaches-stark-for-three.html?showComment=1365529631966#.UWSDTqtARYw
@ Ziva jebi ga stari to me its the same ne ides dalje!
I hope Mandzo scores i have a feeling that the Juve game will be a shocker tommorow just like the 2 games today.
What happend to us at Euro 2008 was a pure fluke. What happend to Malaga was a failure to close a game. Damn, stunned!!!!!
What a game kazim kazim Thats even worst than what happened to us at the euro 2008.
How Reus Wow Reus!
Wow what a finish to the Dortmund game also!

Are they gonna blame Modric for the loss beacuse Pepe and Dimaria suck? Modric is like Lovren in Lyon just blame them hahah. Idemo nasi
You guys seeing this Madrid-Gala game?
Anyone watching the REal-Galatasaray game? Crazy game! Gala scored 3 goals in the last 15-20 mins…. Only 15 mins left in the game..

Jebi ga stari u pravu si ali kada ovaj sere, sere do Argentine, zlo mi je takvih kuzis
@Bilo The 9 is all options. The key to passing these exams is to study the practice questions over and over. Study the explanations over and over. Do not get bogged down in reading the chapters.
@ CousinBilo,
hahahahaha congrats…who knew we had so many investment bankers on the site.
good stuff…and i was bitching about the 6. shame on me.
It’s all good Ante B don’t sweat it so much. Save the nerves for when you have kids, your gonna need them….
I passed the series 7 absolutely high out of my motherfuckin mind. First try too bitchessss.
But according to this article, holding up 3 fingers is legit as long as its newsworthy and comical. Travesty.
Dont mention it.
@ Elvis,
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I haven’t even heard of the 9. 7, yes. That just made my day. Thanks for that.
Ante B – if you plan on making it home alive and not ending up on the razanj then hell NO! Although i never had purger on the razanj before so please do…. lol

Hot serb babes
Nije Bitno,
I also have a ploca for your garaza. It’s in latinica and cirilica. Is it cool if I bring it to show solidarity?
@ #1 Anonymous,
Oh I’m very relaxed at the moment. Just sitting at my desk at work, sippin’ on a Fresca. And I know we’ll get bashed. It is the Croatian way. Agree 100%. But over the years, you acquire alligator skin at the same time. Thank you for your support.
@ Ante B,
Who regurgitated anything from Index? Have no idea what you’re talking about. This was an original piece, besides the video. I don’t even read Index. You make me laugh long time.
@ #2 Anonymous

Nije Bitno,
I can’t wait to come to your garaza brate. Let me ask you this: can I come with my Josipovic shirt on, with three fingers on one hand and two on other, listening to cajke all night long with talks of going to party in Beograd? Come on brate, I’m doing it for the “other diaspora” that is being pandered to. Let me also bring my Serbian buddies to your house since we’re all gentle snowflakes.
Cajke all night! Svi smo braca

@ Fisto,
First off, welcome back.
As usual?? No comprendo. Are you saying I contradict myself the majority of the time?
1. It’s made for English-speaking Croatian sports fans.
2. Have I not united them? We’re here. Right now. Having this conversation. Everyone’s at work right now typing away. Sounds to me like it worked. As far as the 40-40-20. I know the percentage of HOW people think. I WILL NEVER tell people WHAT to think though.
3. Serb angle? What the hell are you talking about?! One of our guys (Saric) goes into the Lion’s Den, puts up 2 fingers to over 1000 Serbs and they appluad him. That’s pretty fucken awesome if you ask me. Could you earn that respect that quickly? Instead of building the guy up and commending him, you’re tearing him down because he took a picture in Serbia.
Question to you: Can CroatianSports use pics of the CRO/SRB game in October since the pics of our boys will be taken in Serbia?
4. Yes primarily it is a sports website. We all know that. 95%. But we also delve into other departments when the opportunity arises. We try to promote culture and language classes. (Not a strong point right now)
We made a video for Ante BBB’s wedding…
We naturally reported on the release of Gotovina and Markac…I believe you praised us for that. But that wasn’t sports related either. So I’m confused…did you just contradict yourself?
And I’m not bringing in controversy. I’m reporting the news. Do you think any news outlet in the world has an audience that agrees with them 100%. NO! (C’mon your’e smarter than that. I know. You passed the 6 and 63 on the first shot. I did not)
And trust me Fisto, having this conversation for a few hours today between the same 4 people will do nothing for traffic. But I appreciate you looking out.
@nije bitno
Yes it does. You always bring your A-game. Always appreciated. Especially when you can set the tempo against my hush puppies.
At least but up some Serb chicks with big boobs.
All diaspora doesn’t think the same, and this site is for every croatian no for 40% only.
All of you that come here to comment only on how this site is not politicaly correct and almost never on the sport topic, YOU ARE THE ONES THAT DO NOT WANT TO UNITE.
Uniting croatians is utopia; we didn’t unite even in the time of war: some people gave their lives and others were geting rich.
But Ante and Denis can dream…………………….
Ante B – speaking of Index, look at the garbage it put out the other day. Hilarious!
http://www.index.hr/black/clanak/povjesnicar-tvrdi-thompson-oliver-i-mamic-su-srbi/670072.aspx
And I thought the original intent of this site besides uniting was to do the “news” through the eyes of the diaspora preferably in English. Not regurgitating Index’s articles and now trying to endoctrinate your audience to becoming the opposite of the diaspora Croatian.
@ Ante K
Relax.
You have to know that every time you post something, you will have somebody attack your work. That is croatian style.
Please keep doing what you do: I enjoy coming to this site.
@ Everybody
If you can bring more valuable and more “appropriate” material to this site, I’m sure that Ante and Denis will post it. Just don’t stop posting because somebody will not think that your posting is the greatest thing. Prepare to be attacked; that is croatian style.
AMEN nije bitno
My garaza unites croats. everybody come to my garage! lol
Full of contradictions as usual….
#1 I thought this website was made for people in the diaspora?
#2 I thought the goal of this website was to UNITE Croats across the world? Seems to me that this picture does nothing to do that. You said it yourself, 40% this 40% that, sounds like you knew going in this topic would be DIVISIVE and not UNITE. Your alterior motives show clear as day.
#3 Reporting from a Serb angle, absolutely, thats totally what we want on here. Even I’m surprised you want 3 fingers as a top picture of your Croatian website. I didnt think even you would steep this low.
#4 You said it yourself, this is a sports website. Why bring in this controversy? You said it yourself, you knew what the reactions would be. Clearly your alterior motives show. Your objective clearly is to create more traffic, not UNITING Croatians. Congraulations, you’re certainly doing that.
@ Ante B
Cute rebuttal. Glad you could make it Twitter-combatible for me.
But you have to understand, it’s kiiiiiiiinda hard for me to take you seriously these days. You’ve threatened to boycott the website multiple times (for us reporting the news, naturally) and said the Josipovic interview would be the last straw.
Yet here we are…
Now I’m just questioning you being a “Man of your Word”
Because if you’re not…you’re words are just dust in the wind to me…
Index West it is! Thank you for making my points for me.
I just know my audience. Simple as that.
I know 40% will like what the guy is trying to do. I know 40% will think the video was lame and lacking direction. And I know 20% will only focus on the picture in Beograd.
So let’s recap…
Croatian comic makes viral video (500k views in 2 weeks) to get Jon Stewart’s attention. Newsworthy: YES
Same comic gives me a mini-exclusive through email. CroatianSports.com worthy: YES
He sends me a pic of him in Beograd saluting an entire crowd with 2 fingers (pretty ballsy) saying that was the best professional moment of his life. Run that as lead: YES.
When you get that information from people, you run it. I would think you would understand that by now. What it sounds like you want us to do is run the same stuff over and over again, with the same angle. I’ll run what I get and let you guys take it from there. Anything less would be a disservice to all of you.
Running this doesn’t make the website/or myself pro-serb. Asking Josipovic if the repka should play in Split (which they did a few months later) doesn’t make us Jugo.
We’re just fucking reporting the news, man! Simple as that.
While I understand the above comment to be complete bullshit, lemme ask ya dis. You said you were “ready” for these types of comments which indicates to me you were expecting a negative response. Why put it up? Let me guess, reporting the news and shedding light? Kinda seems like you wanted the reaction.
@ Ante B,
Saying the pic is not funny and that it’s a disappointment to the website are two different messages. I know your style friend. And I don’t expect anything more or less from you when it comes to Serbia or Croatian politics.
You’re not being singled out sensitive guy, you’re being remembered. You’re a personality on this website. I can’t remember what everyone says, but to name a few, when Ziva, Lebo, Denis, or you say something…it’s easier for me to remember. Isuse! Relax over there and untwist those panties…
I fully understand both sides of the coin. But I never picked ‘a side’ with you in the previous comment. Thank you mama for making my bed, packing my lunch and telling me what to think today.
I live 6,000 miles away dude. I’m just trying to rally the troops and talk a little sports. Politics not really my (Matt) Forté…
Svircic had the first comment on the picture itself so you didn’t have to wait long. I was against the Josipovic article, still am and know I’m not alone. There were several other guys against it but it is nice to be continuously singled out. Have fun living on the other side of the coin, I like being with the “extremely loyal.” Is next weeks Index California funny article going to be on Che Gueverra?
I think some of you are a little hard on the guy. If you watch the Daily Show, this is their type of slapstick comedy…not for everyone. The guy has a lot of balls to go up and do what he did not only in this video but trying to perform a comedy act in Serbia.
Denis…why Beograd? Cash rules everything around me…obviously. Also, there is only so many places you can go in Croatia to do a comedy act, and there is only so much material you have as a comedian. His material was going to get old going to the same clubs and seeing the same people.
The reason it was one of his best gigs is because it was obviously one of his biggest tests. Not only does he have to impress eastern europeans, who are not easy, but he has to impress Serbians as a Croatian.
I also agree with Anonymous, when we look away from the political songs, some of the stuff they put out is really good. Most Croatian music is a little slower and sadder. If I had to listen to Oliver every day, I’d shoot myself. I love the accordion, which some of them can absolutely rip on, and the music over there is usually a little more upbeat.
@ Ante B,
I was waiting for one of these comments.
You gotta remember that we report the news, and that picture tells you the kind of guy Saric is: he’s a comedian, not a general. We’re just trying to paint a picture for you guys when we get anything exclusive. I believe you were the person that was disappointed in CroatianSports for interviewing President Josipovic on soccer questions…
Remember, there are two sides of the coin in Croatia. There are people who are extremely loyal to the war situation and to this day, will not talk to Serbs, praise Serbs etc etc.
There’s also the younger generation that doesn’t give a shit. Honestly. I’ve asked around. They say the war is over, why am I going to hate people that had nothing to do with it? and I need to be investing my time and energy into a paycheck…not them.
I was in Zagreb with friends back in 2010. They were all headed to Belgrade for a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert (I believe) and they asked if I wanted to come. I couldn’t because of travel plans but I asked if that was okay to go to Serbia like that…
One girl in the group immediately turns to me and starts laughing and says, “You people in the Diaspora. Still 20 years behind. We’re going to a concert. We’re not going in there waiving flags and throwing flares. We’re going as normal people. They don’t care that we’re coming from Croatia.”
That was my AHA! Diaspora v Domovina moment. Remember, always 2 sides to the story.
@ Denis
“Also, why go to Beograd?”
Simple. For a paycheck.
Good video
Shitty clip
Total embarrassment failure of a picture on CS with the three finger salute
Grade: D
haha, that clip was funny.
Yeah. Seems like a nice dude. I just thought the video was cheesy. Not that funny. But seems like a cool guy.
I wish the guy luck. Always rooting for hrvati to make it. But, that video is not funny.
I dont understand why Hrvati listen to Cajke and Serbs listen to Miso Kovac
Music is universal if you let it be…..ignore the politics and it can soothe the soul.

Dude seems pretty funny. I like his act. I see where he was going with the picture, however, I didn’t find it funny. Also, why go to Beograd? I dont understand why Hrvati listen to Cajke and Serbs listen to Miso Kovac
I agree with his stand up that people are just haters. From a small scale like in the family all the way to earth vs. Mars haha.
I love the Serbian comment he made 🙂 sounds like a way cool dude
Funny man, i love comedy.
