UFC Heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic retires from fighting after 3rd Round TKO loss to Jon Jones Saturday night in New York City.
Thank you Stipe for carrying the Croatian flag in the UFC. Thank you for being our champion. Thank you for showing the next generation that hard work and determination does make a difference.
Stipe Miocic: the greatest UFC Heavyweight in history!!!
—————–
Stipe Miocic — the UFC Heavyweight GOAT — could be fighting in the Octagon for one last time Saturday night (November 16th) in New York City. Miocic, who is 42 years old, will likely hang up the gloves after the Jon Jones fight: win or lose (my personal opinion). There’s really not much more for him to prove at this point in his career. Taking the Heavyweight title away from Jon Jones would be the absolute “cherry on top” for Miocic who has already had a legendary career.
Miocic:
-defended the UFC Heavyweight title a record four times
-record vs. Francis Ngannou (1-1)
-record vs. Daniel Cormier (2-1)
-defeated UFC legends Fabricio Werdum, Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem in title fights
-has not fought since March 2021
Jon Jones:
-considered one of the greatest ‘pound for pound’ fighters in UFC history
-never lost an official UFC fight (one DQ, one no-contest)
-submitted Ciryl Gane in March 2023 to claim vacant UFC Heavyweight belt (his last fight)
-37 years old
During HT
Marco P x2 are warming up with other players (but they both wearing yellow bibs) – the other players all in big coats
Could it be that Dalic has seen the light ?
Prob not
Biden just OK’d UKRAINE to hit inside Russia with Storm Shadow missiles. Is there anyone out there that thinks that is a good idea?
Iggy probably haha
Somewhat concerning Miocic hasn’t posted anything on IG post fight (untypical)
Q re U19s
They play Serbia next game
There’s been some discussion re Milos Jovicic true allegiance already
That aside
Coach is SINISA Orescanin – sure
he’s born in Croatia (so was Mahajlovic) – but I mean isn’t this a “conflict of interest” (best case) of a Croatian Serb coaching Croatia against Serbia ???
Also beyond Durdov there is another 17 in the squad Lokomotiva’s Matija Subotic – any views ? Haven’t heard mention of him yet
P.S. Jarrod Bowen scored his first goal for England today 🙂
The poster below who said Jones is overrated……most idiotic statement ever on this site.
Stipe suffered brain damage after the first round ground and pound. That was brutal. And the kicks to the gut were also brutal.
As predicted, stipe didn’t have it. Post the prime
That body kick knock out was devastating and extremely dangerous. Let’s hope he didn’t sustain permanent damage to his internal organs
That was terrible
Stipe clearly didn’t want to be in the ring (and had no business being in – look at those deep bags under his eyes – he’s up every night taking care of his young kids)
He was stiff, slow, hesitant – didn’t land one kick – barely landed a few soft punches but all of them were uncertain – this was not the Miocic we remember and love
His corner kept saying “follow it up with a jab” lol – but reality is he knew the danger of the 4.5″ reach difference – never mind the kicks and knees from JJ
Those repeated elbows to face in R1 was extremely painful to watch (Miocic was on the floor for almost 4 minutes) – over and over again to his face
Not saying SM used that KO kick to be over w/ it – but I think he was looking for a graceful exit w/out making it too obviously
In his post-match interview he couldn’t wait to blurt out ““I’m done, i’m hanging em up, i’m retiring. Thank God.”
He wasn’t looking for a graceful exit at all, he was hurt with the first body kick he took and gutted it out for the duration of the fight. The last kick was just right on the money.
Stipe didn’t look like he was into it.
From the moment I saw him walking out, he didn’t look like he was ready to fight.
Once the fight was over, he was quick to say that he’s retired and that’s that.
Miocic’s purse for this fight could be up to $3 million, so it’s obvious why he took it.
It doesn’t matter how he looked, he didn’t take the fight because he thought he was going to lose.
Didn’t he say “don’t piss me off to Dana after the fight”? Because that’s what it sounded like to me, that would suggest he didn’t like Dana’s patronising behaviour and disappointment at what he thought would be a better showing.
Anyway, it was an awesome career from Stipe, great guy, and he went out like one tough bastard! I just hope he got more than the 3 mil you’re suggesting.
Dana White’s a scrumbag who’s been screwing fighters over in terms of pay for a while now.
In regards to Stipe’s comments towards him, I can’t say that I’m surprised. Remember when Stipe beat Ngannou in their first fight, Stipe flat out refused to let Dana put the belt on him, as Dana was clearly favouring Ngannou in the built-up to the fight.
@CroCan
I remember that after the first Ngannou fight.
I only watched the fight live today and wont watch it again, but I think Dana said “good fight” and Miocic I’m pretty sure replied “don’t piss me off,” so you can see how Miocic would take Dana saying “good fight” when Miocic would know Dana got the result he wanted and his showing, though still showing his toughness, wasn’t great.
It’s funny that 42 year old Miocic, nearly 4 years out of the game, still did better than Gane, it makes me wonder if the Gane fight was fixed like some suggested at the time?
His payout is supposed to be between $1-3 million.
Hopefully he gets as much as possible out of it.
Jones is overrated, taking this fight with Stipe who hasn’t fought in close to 4 years is proof of that. The guy was a LHW that beat a lot of good MW’s in the LHW division before finging it tougher against guys he didn’t have marked advantages over, guys like Gustafsson, Santos and Reyes, then he goes to HW after Ngannou left to fight no wrestling Gane and old man Miocic.
If this could be the Miocic that beat Cormier then Miocic wins, but being that all we know for certain is that Stipe is older and hasn’t fought for nearly 4 years, then all I can say is that I’m 100% confident that this fight could go either way.
You’re on crack to think that Jon Jones is overrated! Full respect to Jon Jones who showed that he is truly the GOAT! I wanted Stipe to knock him out just like everyone else on this thread, but at the end of the day, Jones has too many weapons to contend with and he’s slippery in defence which makes him hard to beat.
I’m clean, don’t do drugs or alcohol.
Maybe you’re on crack? suggesting that Jones beating Stipe after a near 4 year absence is something special is either your attempt at humour, or it’s prompted by some sort of narcotics?
Now if I know Jones like I think I do, the next fight he will push for in his perfectly mapped out career, if he dicides to carry on that is, is Alex Pereira not Tom Aspinall.
If Jones could beat Aspinall, that would put him in the conversations for greatest of all time status, right now he’s not in that converstion with intelligent people.
Stipe,
Samo nasi!!!!
Stipe will win with some combos in the 4th round. Watch out for the knee kicks and eye pokes. Jones is known for that. Sretno večeras.
Jones a heavy favorite and likely to win. Stipe is tough but you gotta be hungry for this. 3 years removed from a fight and 42 years old can’t make one very hungry.
Got a gut feeling Jones will win. If recent times have shown me anything it’s that the bad guy always wins, hate and evil always prevails. Jones is a scumbag, Miocic is an exemplar of an EMT so you know what’s gonna happen, scumbag will win.
Relax there.
Kamala isn’t the good that is being prevailed by evil, haha.
As for Stipe…
He’s proven time over time to never bet against him. Always surprises me how late he started his career and how he kept taking it to another level.
It’s crazy at 42 y.o. he’s doing this fight
He’s got two young kids to think about and that need him to be their dad (with what brain he hasn’t done irreparable damage to left)
He’s got a few $$$ endorsements these days (Buffalo Wild Wings, Black Buffalo, etc) and the Only Fans plus the $$$ he’s made so far (c. $1m per fight recently) – he should be happy with that – and just withdraw today to prevent any more lasting damage
I say this even if he wins tonight (and of course I want him to win)
It’s just crazy and irresponsible (I would get it if he made no $$$ from UFC yet and needed a pay-day, but that’s not the case)
You’re spot on, would love for Stipe to win but there’s a reason why Jones chose to do this fight.
Both guys are washed and well past their primes but Stipe’s 5 years older and hasn’t fought in over 3 years. (Also he got brutally finished last time out). This is just one final payday for him, which is an unfortunate way to go out.
I’m not saying Kamala is some paragon, but you can’t help but notice the reverse poetry of a female prosecutor up against a male multiple times rapist (as deposed by Ivanka and found to be so by a jury) and 90 times indicted convicted felon.
It’s literally prosecutor vs criminal rapist and of course the sex offender wins. I note of his male cabinet appointees nearly all are also sex offenders. Matt Gaetz is a sex trafficker of underage girls so of course is put up for head of Department of Justice, i mean why not?
It’s not just trump and his gaggle of crims, i mean it’s just the way being a fucking cunt brings you riches and success in this world. Tyson vs Paul – Tyson is the good guy? another rapist.
Russell Brand – multiple times rapist, made MASSSIVE bank ever since that came out. All the right wing podcasters (Tim Pool, Dave Rubin et al) are literally russian-paid shills and of course they make more money than anyway.
Elon’s arguably the biggest cunt going around so of course he now influences policy on his own industries, great.
The real issue is our society is set up to rewards the very worst traits a person can have. Fuckwits always prosper. I see that happened with Jon Jones too cos of course it did; what else what happen??? A good guy would win?? Dont be naive !
So everyone is a rapist or a Russian agent. Got it.
Anyway, when you get a little older (or more experienced in life), you’ll see how the World works and it’s not always Autobots versus Decepticons.
It could be possible that (for example) Russell Brand is a big free speech advocate, but he could also be a business man trying to make bank as a podcaster. Two things can be true.
I’m sure he did a lot of drugs during his time in Hollywood and banged a lot of women (who all of a sudden are claiming rape after he rattled some cages with his podcast).
Is he perfect? Nope, but he is still innocent until proven guilty and I will still listen to what he has to say as he quotes whitepapers and literature from academic sources that almost nobody else does.
I don’t scream ‘rapist!’ when he’s making a solid point about a serious issue and citing legitimate Lancet and NIH articles as proof.
You need to learn to listen to what is being said, and try to dismiss the actual argument (and not the person).
Going after the person just makes you a partisan hack.
You don’t know any of these people and they don’t know you. They’re all trying to make money and gain power (or fame) and are competing and debating each other…and you’re here arguing for one over the other (as if you are a part of their team). They don’t know who you are and don’t care if you exist.
You can listen to Rogan and not be a fascist, and you can listen to Bill Mahr and not be a Communist. You can agree with both of them regarding a variety of points…or you can just pick one team (subscribing to a pre-selected list of views for yourself) and call the other a Russian agent, ha ha.
Not everyone is a rapist or russian agent, but a large proportion of right-wing ideologues are, yes.
I don’t expect a single person to agree, i know everyone on this site is a Trump-loving right-winger but it is the reality.
