In what seemed to be a joke at first, 16 year-old Croatian Donna Vekić and #10 Caroline Wozniacki wore nearly the same outfit in their second round Australian Open match Thursday afternoon in Melbourne. It was hard to tell the two blondes apart, both with white visors, long ponytails and yellow and white outfits.
Vekić, in only her second ever Grand Slam match, started out solid, taking Wozniacki to 0-40 in the first game. However the former world #1 would come back to take the game and the first set, 6-1. Vekić hit the ball well and rallied with Wozniacki on numerous points but was broken by the Dane on every one of her serves in the first set. Vekić looked a bit more composed in the second set, but a dream win over Wozniacki was not meant to be as the teenager ultimately lost 1-6, 4-6.
She left the court with a smile on her face. This definitely won’t be the last we see of Vekić at Grand Slams. A promising tennis career looks to be on the horizon.

Marin Čilić will face Italian Andreas Seppi in the third round of the Australian Open after his 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 win over Rajeev Ram Thursday. It was routine work for the Croatian #1 as he has not dropped a set thus far this tournament. Seppi played over four hours in his five-set win over Denis Istomin. Should Čilić defeat the Italian, he is likely to play Juan Martin del Potro in the fourth round.
Ivan Dodig won a tough five-setter over Jarko Nieminem 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. He will face the #9 seed Richard Gasquet in the third round. Gasquet’s first two opponents had higher rankings than Dodig and Gaquet easily won both in three sets. Ivan will need to be at his best to stand a chance when they meet on Friday. Regardless of the outcome, this is a big step in his career as he reached the 3rd round of a grand slam for the first time.
@19Tornado65
I dont undertand your comment.
“Racisim cannot exist in craotia we did not own slaves i am ignorant as a tovar but thats my opionion”
As far as racist Croatia fans it started with that loser Balotelli and his big fat mouth. He acts like an animal and then gets mad when he gets called an animal. Sorry.
And yes for the 100th time I do not feel that a black can ever be a true Croat. Sorry but thats how I feel. One has no business on our NT.
on a side note, ivo karlovic sounds like a funny dude, see those tweets on the site here and usually pretty good sarcasm
@ Bobby V
Was it by any chance Ziva Istina? 🙂
@Zach…..no clue why the minimum is done. A lack of a will to do anything.
@Tornado65
Yes fight communism but easier said than done.
@Ziva
Why do they do nothing? Is it corruption or ineptness? If it costs us points or gets us disqualified it would be so predictable
Bravo Badelj too Perisic Badelj Modric Rakitic Top

Yes, rascist judgements and issue have taken place in Italy and England. The difference is their federations have taken some sort of action. Our federation does not. They keep saying they are overwhelmed and need help.
I’m not a liberal who goes out of my way to advaocate for gay rights. so, I use that as a precursor to what I am about to write. But, how many times have we heard Mamic make a homophobic reference??? And how many times has the savez done anything to punish him???? NISTA!!!! Hell, the former head of savez, Markovic, made some dumb remarks in public about gays.
The reason we will eventually get hit, and get hit hard, is because of the lack of action by the federation. When something stupid happens in England their savez is at the very least proactive is trying to do something to at least give the appreance they are making an effort. Not so with the idiots who lead Cro soccer.

@ustani
Platini has already said he has no problems expelling both countries from the World Cup if he sees anything like fireworks or racist chants.
It’s a joke basically. If we get kicked out of the World Cup, there is no reason other countries should be taken down, like Italy and England where racist judgements/issues have arisen in the past few months.
This website puts the Manti Te’o story to shame – lots of imaginery posters – any time, day or night.
Thought I once met the girl of my dreams online – when we finally met, she was a 310 pound bald guy who lived in his Mother’s basement in New Jersey. Gave up playing World of Warcraft shortly after that.
Rogic plays like modric, an amazing player at such a young age. Hes already been capped by the socceroos. But one thing….rogic is SERBIAN LOL…..

Hungary Spain tied 14-14. If Hungary won, we could potentially lose to spain and finish 1st
@Kreso………in my mother’s basement with the AC on so I don’t have to go outside and deal with the humidity.
Tomic plays Federer next. Here’s hoping Federer beats this punk to a pulp so Tomic and his old man shut up.
or nevermind. he is a serb. my fault haha
finally we have a prospect. and to stay in australia. australian born croat tomas rogic signs with celtic.
@ziva, i’m in 30 degree heat at 2:00 in the morning in melbourne, where are you?
@ziva, was that after we won it?
@Kreso……..Serbs won the Davis Cup a few years ago.
Goran to win with a wild card aswell, that’s beautiful, a mate won a couple grand of that aswell!
Have the serbs ever won the davis cup, i was at least happy for Goran win a grandslam before the serbs, nothing personal, just content!
Karlovic has decided to not play Davis Cup.
@zach gilfix, is karlovic not playing davis cup anymore? he can still win matshes agaist decent players eeven with his style of play.
that bird will be a glamma…shes alrdy a stunna now
.Dodig – Nieminen 6:3, 6:7, 6:3, 6:7, 6:1
I. Dodig 6 6 6 6 6
J. Nieminen 3 7 3 7 1
Dodig takes the first set!
We need someone to step up to replace the losses of Karlovic and Ljubicic in the Davis Cup or we could definetly slip out of the top group
