Bayern Munich continue to cruise by the Bundesliga competition by registering their 15th Bundesliga win by shutting out Stuttgart 2-0 on Sunday. Super Mario Mandžukić started and played 89 minutes in the win. The former Dinamo Zagreb striker scored the opening goal in the 50th minute and then assisted on Thomas Müller’s goal in the 72nd minute to ice the game. Mandzukic intercepted and rounded keeper Sven Ulreich after a terrible back pass from Stuttgart defender Cristian Molinaro for the opening goal. The 26-year-old striker would then turn into the provider with a beautiful cross to Müller for the easy tap in. Bayern are back to an 11 point lead over second place Bayer Leverkusen with the win.

Wolfsburg registered 25 shots at goal(10 on goal) but only managed to get one into the Hannover goal in a 2-1 loss. Croatian international,Ivan Perišić, started and played the full 90 minutes in the loss. The 23-year-old winger finished the match with four shots that didn’t trouble Hannover keeper Ron-Robert Zieler. Ivica Olić came on in the 66th minute in search of an equalizer, but the 33-year-old Croatian international only managed one shot at goal.
Srdjan Lakić is on his way out of Wolfsburg to sign with Frankfurt. The former Kaiserslautern striker will need to pass a physical Monday morning and will sign a loan deal until summer of 2014. The 29-year-old has struggled at Wolfsburg and will look to get yet another chance with a new Bundesliga club.

HSV continue to climb atop the Bundesliga standings by registering a come from behind 3-2 win over Werder Bremen on Sunday. Former Dinamo Zagreb captain, Milan Badelj, started and played 90 minutes for Hamburg in the win. The Croatian international played well and was not at fault for either of the two Bremen goals. Ivo Iličević and Mateo Pavlović both failed to get into the game and looked on from the bench.
Ivan Klasnić continues to be patient and failed to get off the bench as Mainz struck out Greuther Fürth 3-0.
SPAIN
Ivan Rakitic and Sevilla play at home against Grenada on Monday.
Ivan started midweek in the 2nd leg of Sevilla’s quarterfinal cup tie against Real Zaragoza in what was one of his best matches of the year. Sevilla went up a man in the 25th minute as Jose Fernandez was sent off for a rash challenge on Jose Reyes. Ivan got his second assist in three games when he whipped in a corner in the 35th minute which was finished by Alvaro Negredo to put Sevilla into the lead. Rakitic raced free in the 45th minute and finished calmly for his second goal of the year and put Sevilla up 2-0. Zaragoza went down another man in the 65th minute when Cicinho was brought down in the box.
Winning the Copa Del Rey is Sevilla’s best chance of playing in Europe next season. They play Atletico Madrid in the semifinals, with the first leg on Thursday.
Assist at 0:01, Goal at 0:58
Luka Modric started and played the full 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Getafe on Sunday. Modric was lively as Real had the lion’s share of possession, got away one shot, and earned a penalty for his side when he was brought down in the box in the 78th minute. He played in his more familiar deep role and completed 68 passes on 75 attempts and helped out the defense with two interception and two tackles. The first leg of their massive semifinal Copa Del Rey tie against rivals Barcelona is on Wednesday. Will Luka get the start?
ENGLAND
After nearly being benched for Everton’s FA Cup Round of 32 match versus Bolton on Saturday, manager David Moyes gave the struggling Nikica Jelavić the start to try and get the Croatian’s scoring fluids pumping again. It wasn’t successful. With the game tied at 1-1 late, Jelavić was subbed out for Dutchman Johnny Heitinga with not one shot to his name. Heitinga would ultimately score the game winner in injury time to set up a date with League One side Oldham Athletic in the next round, who defeated Everton rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
If Jelavić stays cold like this, should Croatia manager Igor Štimac reassess his striking pecking order for the Serbia match that is less than two months away?
Mladen Petrić remained on the bench for Fulham on Saturday as the Cottagers were crushed 4-1 by mighty Manchester United in their FA Cup clash. Between injuries and lack of consistency, Petrić has not had a good year at Craven Cottage, sitting on the bench in most games this season.
France
Dejan Lovren(left) celebrates Lyon goal on Friday
Olympique Lyonnais kept pace with PSG atop the Ligue 1 table with a 2-0 win in Valenciennes on Friday. Former Dinamo Zagreb defender, Dejan Lovren, started and played the full 90 minutes at CB for Lyon. Dejan played well and committed only one foul in the win.
Italy
Pescara continue to sink down the Serie A table after falling to Sampdoria 6-0 and suffering their third straight loss. Croatian international, Ante Vukušić, came off the bench in the 53rd minute of play with the score at 3-0. Ante barely touched the ball the rest of the way and finished without a shot. Pescara are only two points up in the safe zone.

I’m not mad at you for making little ziva bre istinas
Well to be fair, when I was impregnating Serb chicks, it was for a “humanitarian” cause.
lol they can go there on a solo trip and not blow it up in the media saying its for a “Humanitarian cause” when its for their own sexual pleasure hahaha
Zadar is full of hot young serbs who gve great BJs!
Modric stumbling around in no man’s land, as usual.
Why????? because those guys want to make a road trip to Beograd and party. Beograd is filled with kurve.
Maminjho has done it again!
I know they are the old timers, just don’t understand why they would do that even if it is for “humanitarian” reasons….
Ziva,
I had to take breaks in between because my kept hurting from looking up all the time.
Modric on the bench.
The title of this report should be “Croatians on Benches Around Europe. And Mandzukic”
Not rumors……confirmed move to inter,….11million
Jela on the bench
Strong rumors coming out of Zagreb that Mateo Kovacic is heading to Inter Milan.
@nine bitno…..those are the old timers, they have nothing to do with hajduk.
@ante b……on your night out drinking, how did you manage to deal with the stench of the hercegovac. And, I’m willing to bet the dalmatinac disappeared when it was time to pay the bill.
This should be interesting!
http://www.24sata.hr/nogomet/veterani-hajduka-ce-sredinom-veljace-gostovati-u-beogradu-299743
Hajduk beat Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 in Turkey. (friendly match)
For the record: I am not the Anonymous poster above my comment. Although he is completely correct.
And you know what I did later that night after I wrote that? Went out drinking with Hercegovci, Dalmatinci and some Purgeri. And guess what? Everything was ok because they’re jokes.
Waaaaaaahhhhhhh
@Josip B
You are reading too much into what Ziva and Ante B said and making something out of nothing.
You should be more upset with the jugos on site.
My bad, it was “Bosnians” Ziva wanted out:
“Ziva Istina says:
Now, if dinamo could only empty out about 100,000 more bosnians in and around Zagreb” December 21, 2012
It was Ante B that then ran with that and turned “Bosnians” into “Non-Zagrebcani”, then later Hercegovci.
Either way, it starts out with these “jokes”, then devolves from there… with the best outcome being people begging to leave “politics” off of the sports website.
A Croatian “B” team would not beat Serbia’s “A” team. The homer comments are getting a bit too much.
And for all you babies complaining about jokes being made at certain regions in Cro………they are jokes for God’s sake. i never advocated for the elimination of 100K hercegovci……..i, however am advocating for the use of soap and shampoo by 95K hercegovci.
Joking and poking fun; Like the time Ante B and his boy Ziva advocated “eliminating” 100,000 Hercegovci, and then a brave Anonymous poster wanted to cleanse all of them from Croatia’s current political borders. Just good natured joking.
“Uniting Croatian Fans Around The World”… Indeed.
Colin, even this B Team can outclass and embarrass the Serbs. 🙂
I don’t want our B team to beat them. I want our top guys to embarrass them. Wouldn’t risk it either. Balls to the walls, boys. Don’t want it to be close.
Question for you all, can this team beat Serbia?
Kresic-Vida, Schifo, Simunic, Pamic–Radosevic, Vukojevic–Krancjar, Sammir, Ilicevic–Jelavic
This “B” team can definetly beat Serbia–regardless of your opinion on a couple of these players.
The gap in quality is so large between Croatia and Serbia, that they even resorted to calling up Stankovic. That’s like us recalling Rapaic and the Kovac brothers.
@marko
We’d dominate the Cedos with that lineup.
I’d swap positions between Rakitic and Modric though. Hopefully Lovren gets some game time against the Koreans. Dude should be starting by now, but he makes me nervous.

@ Josip B,
Bashing different regions is just poking fun at each other. Website does unite Croats but where it fails is when you have all the jugos posting and preaching crap.
*Stimac
@ Mishko
Niko rode the pine at Tottenham because there aren’t many better left midfielders in the world than Bale, especially in the English system
@ Mr Black
I actually saw an article today on 24sata and Jutarnji list that the expected assistant to guardiala thinks Mandzukic will fit great into the tiki-taka system, could just be journalistic nonsense, but I think for the german system and guardiala’s tiki-taka it can work…Mandzukic actually passes very well and his first touch is excellent, sure he can’t dribble like suarez, but suarez can’t get to crosses the way Mandzo can and that crossing system is prototypical german style of play
@ Chupe
I like it, my exact line up. But I would love to see Rakitic step into that role behind the loan striker one day, he shoots so well, plays the ball around nicely, doesn’t lose possession / holds the ball well. I’d like to see Stimas try him out there against South Korea. He doesn’t really have a lot to lose doing it.
ooops,here we go again,heading down the slippery slopes of bashing each others regions.
@Armada-Maybe I should not have made the Italian language jibe,but I couldnt help myself.I am sure it brought a little smile to your face.Maybe you can google “Veceras je nasa Festa”to hear a really great song. 🙂
@Josip B-Dont worry too much about some crapp that goes up,much of it is just mucking around,thats what Croats do.Some comments are by jerks,thats what Croats do also.Hard to moderate on this,I think.
@all-Maybe we can turn the discussion to Luka Modric and his transfer rumours and if he is heading for “bust “at Real or if he will find his place. 😉
Waaaaaaaaaaah! My feewinga were hurt! Wahhhhhh
Lets ban all joking on this site.
@HDZ
Beautiful! 🙂
@Armada-I watched the clip of the link you posted,but I dont get it as I dont speak Italian.
(Just messing with ya! 🙂 )
I always get crappy Super Bowl box numbers but this year’s are ridiculous, negative 1 and the square root of 5.
I suppose it beats last years: a Heiroglyphic and what I’m pretty sure was just a coffee stain.
@TGC:
Pep is going to inherit a team that routinely advances far in the Champion’s League and is going to win the cup and league.
It is going to be interesting to see if he fixes what isn’t broken.
Their academy produces Bayern type players and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Croatiasports.com needs to exert some leadership and moderation on the website. The BS of alleged Croatians attacking whole regions of other Croatians on here continues, particularly the anti-Hercegovac nonsense. How about you guys be what you claim to be instead of a voice for dividing Croats?
“Uniting Croatian Fans Around The World”… Indeed.

The 2 games against wales and srbija will be important i think the back 5 will be Pletikosa Srna Carli Lovren(Simunic) Strinic Middle Rakitic Modric Badelj(Radosevic)Perisic and @ up front Mandzo and Eduardo. Subs Jelavic Sammir Vida Kalinic
@Anonymous
Definitely wtf. Great cross and even better finish.
@Mishko
That news has been swirling around for a bit now, and I’m totally ok with it. The problem is, QPR could easily get relegated this season if they keep up their shitty form. Niko was a great player at Portsmouth, but rode the bench at Tottenham for more than one good & bad reasons. If Niko goes to QPR I think he starts immediately and makes an impact on the team. The question is, can he provide enough to an already overpaid lackluster squad to help them not get canned from the PL.
@Bayern transfers
I see Pep bringing in at least one South American to help with his system up front. Gomez and Mandzukic will not live in harmony on that team, and one of them will have to go once Pep starts making moves.
This is a huge step for Pep. Going from his free flowing Spanish style and trying to translate that into the Bundesliga. I don’t see him being successful, but it’s going to be hard to fail with the huge pool of talent he has.
“Muller for the easy tap in”
WTF are you watching? Muller was at full speed, beat the defender (who was initially in better position to deal with the cross) to the spot, knocked the ball (which was off the ground) into the net while colliding with said defender. It amazes me what people don’t see.
no late transfers? any rumors of anything?
WTF – Rumors are that Harry wants Kranjcar to play at QPR. After Niko played so well at Portsmouth for him and then he makes him ride the pin at Spurs.
Thoughts?
.
depends what type of system Pep wants to run. If he wants to produce barca 2 (it wont work), then Mandza is not the guy for it. His foot skills are not good enough.
Suarez and Falcao are much better than Mandza, but I don’t see Bayern spending 60 million euros for a player (Falcao.
Guardiola thinks about buying new players for B. Munich.
President gives him 278 million Euro to go to the market. Guardiola is thinking about Suarez from Liverpoor and Falcao from Atletico Madrid.
Gone mad? What about Mario Mandzukic? Guy is doing great.
The porcelain doll comment has been retired in the CroatianSports.com Hall of Fame due to its accuracy.
nice game from bogut. 12pts, 8brd, 4 blocks in like 25 minutes. ….i’m awaiting the porcelain doll comment

Lol this should endear him even more to everyone …
Bogut’s back! But Steph goes down with an ankle. Between those 2 and their ankles. Faaak!
@Bobby
There’s a facebook page with who’s “attending”
https://www.facebook.com/events/355368921216781/
it seems jelavic’s cold streak has made the one or two striker debate a lot easier. right now it seems to make sense to play the 4-5-1 formation many are suggesting. obviously it brings in a lot of questions with itself like where to play srna who to play at d, but based on league performance it seems like some formation that fields perisic, badelj, modric, and rakitic in the middle is the way to go. lets hope they jive together
@Zach
Not Simunic maybe Shidenfeld. Simunic at least has been playing and contributing. Shidenfeld isn’t even dressing for some games.
is vukusic in the right place in italian league? obviously he should be showing his quality even with not great guys around him but should he be on another team or another league even?
Seriously considering the Vegas thing. Betting on March Madness games which will be in full swing would be kinda cool. Anyone know what the list as far as attendees is looking like?
@Ziva:
I also hope they play Stankovic.
I am surprised he hasn’t made his way over to the MLS as a DP by now.
You can read cyrillic? It gives me a migraine.
@ Ziva – I expect Nemanja Vidic will come back too.
That interview with Srebric only proves what we already know….Srebric is an idiot.
@Booby V…..yes, Halilovic’s old man did play for the cro repka, only because the BiH repka was not recognized yet.
Sounds like Simunic or Shildenfeld…
@Ivica,……I agree with you. i would go with Mandza as the lone forward. He has shown he can score when provided with quality players around him. I favor the 4-5-1 formation.
I just read on one of the serb sites that Stankovic is being brought back up to the serbs side. The man has not played in a long, long time. I’m hoping Mihajlovic is dumb enough to play him in the starting line up. Guy is slow and out of form.
IvicA – you are absolutely correct. Mandzukic should be our only striker. Keeping one of those midfielders on the bench in place of Jelavic or Eduardo would be an absolute waste.
Interview with Zorislav Srebic giving his opinion on Alen Halilovic over the weekend.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3A1m7J6kw0
Interesting that his father played only one game for Croatia and his last 15 with the Bosnian national side. Alen’s brother Dino also playes with Dinamo’s youth team – he’s only 14.
Ivica:
Amen brother.
More dinamovci, less hajdukovci.
@Ziva
Yea, Mandzo isn’t as skilled as many strikers out there. He has no shot, and technically he is nothing to write home about. But he plays his role fantastically at Bayern with their quality wing and midfield play.
This is why we need to play a 4-5-1 with Mandzo as that lone striker. We actually have decent wingers in Perisic and Srna, and a solid core of Badelj, Modric, and Rakitic in the center of midfield.
If I’m Stimac, I’m benching any striker not named Mandzo, and I’m loading up that 5-man midfield. Jela and Eduardo are ice-cold right now. We need to play who’s hot, and Mandzo, Badelj, and Rakitic have been playing really well to date. Srna and Modric are quality as always, and Perisic will step it up against the Serbs. He’s always had success against Serb teams in Europa competitions, he’ll do it again.
Also, look at the form Rakitic is showing.
He is clearly our second best midfielder behind Lika.
Naprijed Rakitic. This guy is a gun….. about to hit his prime
Ziva,
Not all great strikers can score goals with great service. Look at Torres, Shevckenko, Luca Toni, even Zlatan at Barca.
Give the guy the credit for going the next step and becoming a top class striker.
Without Mario in this type of form – we have no other decent proven striker for the national team. SUPER MARIO….
Bravo Raketa hes our best mid fielder Perisic Badelj Modric Rakitic come on i hope they have chemistry against wales it looked good but that was whales
2nd assist of the game for Rakitic with a left footed cross
Rakitic with another assist off a corner
Donna Vekic goes from no rank to #97 in the WTA rankings
Yes good stuff from Mandza. I liked this goal, as he rounds the keeper. He really showed composure and class. Let’s hope he continues his scoring spree.
Good to see from mandza…..but, let’s be honest, any decent forward would and should be putting up those numbers with roben, ribbery, lamb, etc serving in the balls. Gomez has done it, Olic has done it, Klose has done it…
RE: SMM
The goal was a gift.
I like his play when he is wide right. It is a nice bonus to his goal scoring.
He had a nice header that was saved.
@TGC
I agree, but his demeanor seems to be improved at Bayern. He almost seemed indignant about playing at Dinamo and Wolfsburg.
I used to be the biggest Mandzukic hater. So happy he has proved me wrong
12 goals for mario
Mario for President!!!
Mandzo is a beast all the Mandzo haters sit on it! Lukica izborija penal haha lets see if he plays in the 2 Elclassicos,
Badelj good again.
Mandzukic scores and has an assist….there can be only one super mario
Mandzukic scores

@majstore
Agree and thanks for the article. I believe the top four teams from Serie A go to the champion leagues. I think Lazio will make it and have been playing good football this season. I have a love hate relationship with Lazio. Love them for Boksic but hate them for Mihajlovic.
http://blogs.thescore.com/counterattack/2012/09/18/bandini-who-is-vladimir-petkovic-how-a-full-time-charity-worker-became-coach-at-lazio/
How about adding in Vladimir petkovic to the Croatians in Europe thread. Lazio (besides today) seems to be doing well and are pushing for a champions league spot. Personally I hope they make it. They were always one of my fav teams growing up (with boksic). This makes me like them even more. He seems like a stand up guy as well for the work he has done with karitas.
FA Cup should be midweek
Armada87 that game sucked 4-1
Rooney
Watching Fulham v. ManU and Fulham are getting demolished 3-0 in the 61st. Petric should get some garbage time in this one.
