Germany
Bayern München clinched the Bundesliga crown with a 1-0 win in Frankfurt on Saturday. The win gave the Bavarian side a record 23rd national championship and with six games still to play, it marked the earliest clinching of the title. The club had previously twice triumphed with four games left, in 1973 and 2003. Bayern will now focus on the Champions League and German Cup trophies.
Former Dinamo Zagreb striker, Mario Mandžukić, was left off the roster sheet after coming down with a cold. Bayern’s leading goal scorer should be ready in time to face Juventus in the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in Turin on Wednesday. Srdjan Lakić came on in the 76th minute for Frankfurt and finished with one shot on goal.
“The fact that we have won the title after 28 games is extraordinary, it’s simply fantastic,” Heynckes told reporters. “One of the things FC Bayern have demonstrated this season is that we’re a top side, but we have done it with harmony in the team. We can be confident we will achieve something in the Champions League.”
~Bayern manager, Jupp Heynckes

Wolfsburg came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen. Former Dinamo Zagreb striker, Ivica Olić, started and played 90 minutes for Wolfsburg in the draw. Ivica’s streak of four straight Bundesliga matches with a goal came to an end as the Croatian international failed to register a shot on goal in the draw. Ivan Perišić remains sidelined for Wolfsburg because of a knee injury.
Milan Badelj played the final 20 minutes for Hamburg in a 1-0 home loss to Freiburg. Hamburger SV continue to slip down the Bundesliga table with their third straight loss. Ivo Iličević remains sidelined for HSV with an abdominal injury.
Ivan Klasnić was left off the roster sheet for Mainz. Mateo Pavlović looked on from the bench as Schalke beat Werder Bremen 2-0.
SPAIN
Luka Modrić started for Real Madrid in their comfortable 5-1 win over Levante. He had two shots off target, created two chances, and competed 94 passes at an 87% rate in an average performance. Real remain 2nd in La Liga and take a 3-goal cushion into the 2nd leg of their Champions League tie in Galatasaray on Tuesday.

Ivan Rakitić and Sevilla play Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Sevilla will be without their key man, Jesus Navas.
RUSSIA
Stipe Pletikosa made some great saves to secure a clean sheet and an upset victory over Spartak Moscow. He nearly conceded a goal when he fumbled a seemingly easy save early in the 2nd half but redeemed himself with a diving save to stop Pavel Yakovlev in the 72nd minute and later a big save in injury time to preserve the victory. Rostov moved up to 11th with the win.
Saves: 2:20, 2:35
Ognen Vukojević made his first start for Spartak Moscow and played all 90 minutes in their disappointing loss to Rostov. They fell to 6th after the match and are one point out of the European places after 23 matches.
Vedran Ćorluka started for Lokomotiv Moscow in their 1-1 draw with Terek Grozny. He was not at fault for Terek’s 6th minute goal off of a corner kick. They remain 10th in the Russian Premier League, far off their goal at the beginning of the season. Vedran said earlier in the week that should manager Slaven Bilić leave the club, he would follow.
Tomislav Dujmović’s Mordovia Saransk play Kuban Krasnodar on Monday. A win would take them out of the relegation zone and into the “relegation playoff” zone.
France
Olympique Lyonnais are surely out of the running for the Ligue 1 title after stumbling to their third consecutive defeat with a 1-0 loss at Reims on Sunday night. Now Lyon must focus on securing a Champions League spot after Saint-Étienne pipped them for the final French Champions League spot with a win over Evian. Saint-Étienne are only ahead by goal difference with seven games left in the season.
Former Dinamo Zagreb defender, Dejan Lovren, was left off the roster sheet for Lyon after being heavily criticized by French media and Lyon manager Raymond Domenech after Lyon’s 2-1 loss at home to Sochaux last weekend. Luckily for Dejan, Lyon doesn’t have a defensive replacement as Serbian defender Milan Biševac picked up a straight red and was called for the winning PK in his first game back after being suspended for yellow cards.
Do you feel that Lovren is being fairly criticized? Dejan doesn’t think so:
“I am not satisfied with my professional situation and in this state I can not provide the best of myself. I think it is unnatural that one player is constantly under fire and all this negativity. I didn’t deserve this treatment like I am the only one and the biggest culprit of all of Lyon’s problems. I’m guilty of the goal against Sochaux, no doubt. We were attacking the whole game and we hit three posts and two crossbars, while our opponents played fast counter attack and scored a goal. That does not justify it. I just could not concentrate, I am bothered by what is happening around me. I am not a happy player for the first time since I arrived in 2010.
From the first day that I arrived, the media writes that I am not a player for Lyon, that I’m overpaid and even with good games I was not able to influence their attitude. It hit me hard that no one asks why I’m not in good form and no one looks to resolve a problematic situation. I can understand if the club are not happy with my game as I am not either, but they behave as if I am not important to them. We still have nine matches left and I will give my all in those matches. After, we will sit down and see what happens next. I need to know what the club wants and together we find a solution that is best for everyone.
I am happy that I scored(against Wales) to deny some of those that criticize me. If Croatia would have lost because of that strange penalty kick called against me I would have ate myself alive.”

Atalanta came back twice to stun Inter 4-3 in front of 49,000 stunned fans at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan. Former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, Mateo Kovačić, started and played the full 90 minutes in a losing effort. Mateo played well, assisted to Ricardo Alvarez for the third goal and was rated along with Alvarez as the best Inter player. The club’s website had this to say about the young Croatian international: “Another great match for the young Croatian midfielder. He was the leader on the pitch, always went forward, and showed once again that he is the future at Inter.”

After being suspended for the last round, Marko Livaja returned with a bang against his former club. The former Hajduk striker is on loan for the next year and a half at Atalanta and came on in the 55th minute for Carlos Carmona. The 19-year-old prospect went right to work and assisted to Giacomo Bonaventura for the equalizing goal just a minute after stepping onto the pitch. Ten minutes later, Marko was brought down in the box to gift German Denis a penalty kick goal. Atalanta would score four goals in 20 minutes to stun the Nerazzurri on Sunday night in Milan.

Darijo Srna and Eduardo got the start for Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday against Ukrainian rivals Dynamo Kiev and Domagoj Vida. Although Shakhtar will wrap up the Ukrainian league title in the next few matches without resistance, this was still a showdown game between Ukraine’s greatest club rivalry. As Dynamo Kiev looked to push forward for a victory and try to capture second place and a Champions League spot, Yarmolenko got them on the board in just the 10th minute of play. However Shakhtar would equalize through an own goal and Eduardo would find a wide open Mkhitaryan in the middle of the box in the 75th minute to earn Shakhtar a 2-1 victory. Srna and Vida played the full match while Eduardo was subbed out in injury time. Kiev’s Niko Kranjčar is still out with a knee injury.
The loss puts Dynamo two points behind second place Metalist. Shakhtar now only need five points to capture the Ukrainian crown.
Both Ivan Strinić and Nikola Kalinić played the full 90 minutes for Dnipro in yet another disappointing loss, this time 2-1 to Vorskla. Dnipro is a sinking ship at the moment, and with only seven matches remaining in the season, now find themselves four points behind a what seemed to be attainable Champions League spot.

With the match tied at 1-1 between Tottenham and Everton Sunday afternoon, Nikica Jelavić came off the bench in the 52nd minute for Scott Barkley, trying to find a winner for his Toffees in a final attempt to make the Champions League. Instead, teammate Kevin Mirallas found the net one minute later to give Everton a 2-1 lead going into the last half hour of the match. Jelavić didn’t have any scoring chances but took his lone shot of the game in injury time from outside the box. It was an easy save for the Spurs keeper which came three minutes after Tottenham equalized with Gylfi Sigurdsson tapping in the ball after clinking off the right post.
The draw will be disappointing for Everton after being so close to a monstrous three points at White Hart Lane. They currently sit in sixth place, six points behind Tottenham for the final Champions League spot. Will Nikica Jelavić wake up and find some goals during the final stretch?
Mladen Petrić was left off the Fulham squad on Sunday as they were blanked by Newcastle 1-0 with an injury time goal by Cisse in the 93rd minute.

I think Ziva is Jerko Leko.
I love that someone uses “Mamic” as a handle.
Anyone else find it hard to believe that Ziva has slept with that many international women?! Maybe Ziva Istina is the Dos Equis guy…
@ Kruno

Don’t waste your time with Cico. He is delusional and full of hatred. Bog, Hrvati, Dinamo, HNS.
Thanks U
@Cico # 50,000…….what am I negative about; provide examples.
Me stating Hajduk is a mess is not negativity, its called being honest.
I don’t know. I should be asking you since you hypocritically sign off with HNS that is Mamic’s. You are the epitome of a walking cliche.
Lol …i am in my place with the Beauty of Hajduk , and it’s Beautiful City of Split . P.S. how’s Mamic ? @ Kruno , when U go to Split , have Fun walking the Riva , & seeing all that is Beautiful !
Kaj je? I can’t help it that other people put you in your place. Kako te je lipo zasutija.
Luka , the Ring is Better without those Arrogant one’s ! I root for any Croatian team when they play against Any Non – Croatian teams . No division here Buddy ! Ante B . Don’t even start dude . Bog, Hrvati, Hajduk, HNS , i L.A . Galaxy Champions !!! The Ring sounds Very Good to Me . Thank U !!!
@Ziva:
I figured you would be a Dugi Otok regular.
Oh snap. That a boy, Luka!
The question is why the hate for Ziva. The guy says something about Split and most are all over him. He doesn’t put it down rather says the good with the bad. Cro girls are hot in general but also your ugly ones exist and please don’t tell me only Splitcanke are hot because they enough ugly ones as well.
Cico it seems unless someone doesn’t agree with you on your views of Split, Hajduk and LA Galaxy is not Croatian. You are one of the worse for dividing and causing shit on line. Sorry but calling it the way I see it. Bog, Hrvati, Hajduk, Dinamo I HNS. Nice ring to it hey Cico.
@ IvicA , U r right on ! Ziva , what do i talk Bad about ? Duh Everything ! U should change your name to Mr. Negative ! U should be praying for yourself ! Not all is Bad !
What’s with all the hate on Split and Splicani???
I don’t understand where all this is coming from. Split is an awesome city. Splicanke are hot, and the city has a low tolerance for douchebags so if you’re some fool who walks around talking smack, someone is going to teach you a lesson. But it’s not like people over there are walking around looking for fights. I find that they’re pretty relaxed and treat you great if they find out you’re a Croat. I’ve had my car towed there, got stopped by cops, and got ticketed there many times and I was given a pass every time (once they saw my name on my ID). Very good guys in Split.
@Kruno
If you stay in Split, I wouldn’t spend any time at Bacvice (day or night). The beach there is awful, and the nightlife is 95% obnoxious British/Australian tourists. I’d only maybe go to Tropic club Equador when they have a decent night (I forgot which night is their night). They usually only let in people who have semi-decent clothes on, and filter out the grimey drunkard Aussies who are walking around barefoot and still in their swimshorts from earlier in the day.
O’Hara is a nearby walk from Bacvice, and it’s 100% Croats playing Cro folk rock music. It’s a good time if you’re into Cro music. The crowd is a very good group. No real macho nonsense at all.
As for other nightlife, you can’t go wrong with Hemingways (it’s the biggest and probably most popular club in Split). It’s your typical mainstream club, but it’s got a good mix of Croats and diaspora Croats, with a smaller minority of other tourists. Vanilla Club is also good too, mainstream club that plays some Cro dance music too and is pretty much all Croats with unbelievable girls. Everyone’s like 6’5″ lol. Actually, Vanilla Club is the best place to go on their night (I forgot which day of the week was theirs, but I’m sure you can ask around).
As for non-clubbing spots, Split is a great place to lounge around for drinks in the Stari Grad alone. I could do that all day over there. I hear the beach in Znjan is the best city beach, but I usually just hop in the car and drive east along the coast toward Omis or Brela. Brela is worth the drive. Actually, the drive is worth the drive. Unbelievable coast.
LOL……who and what do I talk bad about?
Jarac , Luka , & Everybody . Please do NOT listen to Ziva’s LIES . This person isn’t all there! For all we know he might not even be Croatian , the way he talks so Bad about our Teams , & Places ! Please Stop the LIES Mr. Ziva Liar ! Bog, Hrvati , Hajduk, i HNS !!!
Good advice Ziva about Split. Thank you for telling it the way it is.
Was looking into croatian football and the tournmanets we went to and the dumb lineups coachs put in post Wc 1998 so just for fun i think these teams would have got out of the groups and done better,

@Cico……..Who am I to give advice????? I’m Ziva Istina. No worries about my mama’s basement. She knows not to come down when I have a sock hanging on the door handle. Nothing I have said about Split or my beloved Hajduk is inaccurate. Some times the “ziva istina” hurts.
@Ante…..Well, good experiences with the women on ZG, but I don’t recall any that were pure zagrepcanke. Mostly dalmatinke or from other regions of the country who were living in ZG.
Their was only one club in zadar that was great and it was Gotham or Gotam best days ever.
@ Ziva , who r U to give advice about Women ? U still live in Mamas basement , & hate Women the way U talk about them . Also ,U just can’t leave Split , or Hajduk alone . Please Stop talking Trash about that Beautiful Team ,& City ! Pizda !!!
Ziva,
Any experiences with Zagrepcanke? Any input? No pun intended.

ZIva – what about the Hungarian, Slovenian and Italian Women that come to cro?
Anybody ever been to O’Hara’s bar in Split? I think I’d have to check that place out sometime.
@jm………….thanks. yes, Max was the name. That was the place to be back in the day before other clubs started opening up (and eventually shutting down) in and around the city.
Agreed about women being everywhere….Just stay away from the American hrvatice…too clingy and jealous once you start speaking with other females.
As for others………..
Australian hrvatice………nice grils, but they become friends more so than hook ups. I’ve never met a bad Aussie, male or female. All class acts. Props to their family for the way the first generation of aussie croats were raised. They are marriage material. Treat with caution.
tourists from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland……….great times; nothing more needs to be said about them.
British women………whores, whores, whores……and bad dental work (look at their teeth)
Mujo women from BiH……you have no choice while in the occupied territory of Makarska in the summer. They OK, but abandon them soon after initial contact.
German hrvatice……..mixed results with them, cant offer a majortiy view.
Canadian hrvatice……good times, but too many of them are looking for husbands. Note to the croatian girls from Canada……Just because we buy you drinks which led to some extracurricular activities, it doesn’t mean we want to engage in a long-distance relationship upon arrival back in N. America. And don’t come seeking us out when we come up to Canada for a wedding or soccer tournament. There is a reason we lost your cell number/email/name.
Splicanke………..be cautious. they are great material for overnight activity in the park/apartment/car/beach/kolodvor, but make sure their boyfriends or wanna-be boyfriends are not watching you chat them up in the bars/cafes. And make sure you know how to navigate the roads in Split at night in case you are being followed.
@Kruno
Best time I had was island hopping. Renting a boat and travelling all around. Don’t listen to some here who state only one place matters and one place has the prettiest girls. BS. You will find stunning girls up and down the coast and amazing places. .
@JM
What is the name of that squattor women there. I think she is Irish.
It is still there and it’s called Barbarella. JM I am there but I have to keep my identity hidden. Let me know when you go and I will arrange a meeting. That disco was great in the 1980s.
The Garden Festa was a dope head party. You would find drunk kids on your porch in the morning. They would piss everywhere and just act stupid. They would get naked and have sex in the woods. Crazy stuff LOL. The only time I really got made was when they would sing that stupid German bomber song. However, if you are young no better place to shag some English Babes.
good writeup, hvala Ante/Denis/Zach
@ ziva . i think you’re right. it’s changed many times. i remember it being max at one point, and then barbarella. they were having a big music festival there for a few years called the garden festival with thousands of brits coming down to party and listen to some techno djs and create some chaos in the town, but it stopped last year. everyone in the village complained about the music and chaos. now i think they complain that there aren’t british pounds flowing into the town anymore to fill up the cafes and apart mans
@ elvis
my family is from petrcane. i go there every summer. you live there?
@Elvis……what was the name of the disco/bar/nightclub back in the mid and late 90s in Petrcane. I’m sure it has chancged names over the years.
Ivica, glad you liked vagabundo 😀
There is no place that I rather be than in Petrčane.
I hope the Mujos step on all of the sea urchins.
Get out of Bol by Aug.2, before the Italian tourists invade.
Split is OK for a day or two in the summer months, but not the place to make for your home base. Everything about Split is nice except Splicani.
Honestly, anywhere on the coast is a good time, but some places are better than others depending on your life status (single, married, married with kids). If single, go to Makarska for a few days. Way too many mujos from Bosnia due to the cheap prices, but a chance to hook up with the mujo women and then dump them to the side. The shitty turbo-folk music from the cafes will drive you nuts, but there are a few place that will play cro music.
Best thing you can ever do if you have the extra cash is to rent a yacht or catamaran for multiple days or a full weak and island hop. Unreal time.
If you are into the drug scene, then visit Pag and go to the other side of the island to Novalja and Zrce. Crazy club scene. But, 90% of the people at Zrce in those clubs are on some type of drug.
Wow thanks I can’t wait to go
In Split go to Bacvice!!
@Kruno
Brac has a lot of cool places, but even though the most cliche place to go to on Brac is Bol, I would still spend most (if not all) of my time on Bol.
Best pizza I’ve ever tasted is on Bol at a place called Pizzeria Skalinada. It’s unbelievable. If you go to Bol and not eat at Skalinada, I will find out where you live and murder you.
My favorite beach in the world is Zlatni Rat (probably the most popular beach in Cro, but it’s still good even when it’s packed). The walk to the beach everyday is such a nice walk on the smooth tiled surface that reminds me of the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz. There’s also a nice beach on the East side of town next to the church if you want something more quiet (it’s the only church with a steeple in the entire town so it’s easy to find).
Every restaurant is excellent. If you want to spend a little more and are impressing a chick, go to Vagabundo. It’s not expensive at all (roughly 300kn for a meal for two) but it’s more expensive than the norm (which is pretty low) since it’s a high end restaurant. The Lobster soup there is amazing. All other restaurants are more casual but are excellent as well. Try the octopus salad at Pumparella, the black ink rissotto at Konoba Gust, the pesto mozzarella spaghetti at Centar Marjan…even the burek at the pekara is amazing. You really can’t go wrong on that island for food.
Every Tuesday is some sort of Ribarska festa, and a lot of the locals inland come out with some nice products to take home (ie. Olive oil, cheese, honey, dried fruit rind, etc). Brac’s Olive oil is the best in the world. I always bring back a bottle.
The nightlife is pretty much just Cocktail bar Varadero and whatever hotel is throwing a party that night after the bar closes, but it’s a good vibe. A lot of purgeri, so you get to hang out with Croats that are on vacation instead of just other Euros (Bol does have it’s fair share of foreign tourists though).
If you want, you should google a guy named Matko Glasinovic. His place is literally right next to “Varadero” right in the center of town. Mention me, and he’ll remember. I could send you his contact info if I can find it. I think he gave me his gmail.
But if I were you, I would check out Hvar too. I would do a Split to Bol trip with the katamaran (22Kn) and spend about 3 days on Bol, then hop onto the katamaran to Jelsa on Hvar (18Kn) and spend another three days there (if you want to party). I’d then zip back to Split from Hvar and do whatever you want over there. I could write about Hvar and Split too, but I think I’d run out of characters in this textbox.
I’m going to Brac and Split this summer… any suggestions on things only places to go or things to do?
Since we are all comparing places. Dubrovnik is the most beautiful and stunning place in Croatia followed by Hvar.
@Valentina
So you’re from Republika Broč? 🙂
My family is not from there, but Bol is my favorite place in Cro. I go there every summer to the point where the vacationing purgeri regulars (ie. Maro Srezovic) and the locals (Ivica Jaksic, Matko Glasinovic) recognize me.
So funny. That island is awesome, and it rarely changes (except for that stupid cafe Auro that was literally put on Zlatni Rat by that mafijaš named “Bosa”)
1998-2006 was the golden age of Pedro and LA for me when it came to Croatian events. Those were the days.
Kranjcar isn’t done yet, he has a few good years left in him as long as he doesn’t get any slower as he gets older.
I think Kranjcar is done. Two years of riding the pine in Tottenham killed him. It’s too bad, because he used to be a good player.

Good. I hate seeing our players go East. Hopefully Corluka goes to Serie A or the Bundesliga. It’s a much better fit for him than EPL.
Vedran Corluka will leave lokomotiv when Bilic gets fired.
they are all unacceptable as they are shitty EPL clubs and england can go eat a dick
Check here for a list of acceptable images:

@Vedran
I just talked with Ante and apparently your image violates the site’s terms of use so you’re gonna have to change it or get blocked. Sorry buddy
Jelavic is good just in a slump im never on anyones bandwagen i remeber when alot we one Andre Mijatovic, Krizanac,Lakic,Kelava,Pranjic, thats just our nature.
Congrats to Mandzo for finally getting a trophie that wasnt bought bravo Mandzo if he wasnt rested so often hed be Bundesliga number 1 striker.
That was me about Ziva just now btw. Not playing anonymous, just forgot to add my name.
Ziva Istina always plays it safe. Always predicts the worst so that when it comes correct he can be smug and when he’s wrong he can play the role of the bigger man admitting he is wrong and joining the celebrations.
I will never forget his quote about Croatia v Spain…it went along the lines of “it’s not a matter of if, more a matter of when we do go 2-0 down its important for the fans not to get out of control…”
He also dismissed Kovacic ability at one stage.
Always talking about, “…who cares, so long as they’re making money…”
Ziva Istina is just a product of the system I guess, not his fault. I like the guy.
Some of us were never on the bandwagon.
so everyone suddenly jumps off the jelavic bandwagon? the man is in a slump. he’ll get out of the slump and then everyone will be right back on his bandwagon.

Real Madrid stream
Nikica doesn’t deserve to start. Shitting the bed.
Looks like Mandzukic not even on Bayerns roster for todays game.
If Jelavic plays the full 90 and is able to tie his shoes then we should all applaud.
Jelavic will be lucky if he gets a shot on goal. Two goals is a bold statement. I love the guy but he doesn’t have it in him.
Nikica Jelavic will score two against a toothless Tottanham, helping Arsenal leapfrog Chelsea and hopefully Tottenham if they keep slumping.
