Ivan Rakitić has suggested that Barcelona’s stars might be waking up with headaches on Sunday after celebrating their La Liga win in style. Ivan Rakitić played all 90 minutes in Barca’s 1-0 victory over Levante on Saturday which clinched their second straight La Liga title and fourth in five years. With Barcelona taking on Liverpool in the Champions League semifinals this week and facing Valencia in the Copa del Rey Final on May 25th – they are on pace for a European treble if all goes according to plan.
Lovre Kalinić did not feature for Aston Villa on Sunday in one of the most bizarre football matches you will ever witness. With both Leeds United and Aston Villa fighting for English Premier League promotion for next season, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa instructed his side to concede a goal to Aston Villa immediately following Leeds’ opener. With a Villa player on the pitch injured, it appeared Leeds would kick the ball out of play in a show of sportsmanship. Instead, with Aston Villa players prepared for the ball to go out of bounds, Mateusz Klich got the ball and scored for Leeds. A fight erupted. A red card was shown. And the following play saw Aston Villa walk the ball into the net (well, kind of.) Full story and videos.
Vida Goal
Domagoj Vida is scoring more than any other Croatian recently. Vida scored his second goal this week in a 4-1 victory over Ankaragucu Sunday as he cleaned up the trash in front of the net after a poor clearance. The win puts Vida and Besiktas three points behind Istanbul for Turkey’s only automatic Champions League berth with only four matches remaining in the season.
Ante Rebić played the entire match for Eintracht Frankfurt in a scoreless draw against Hertha Berlin Saturday. The point does Frankfurt plenty of help as Borussia Monchengladbach lost on the weekend which means Rebić and company now have a 3-point lead on Monchengladbach for the last German Champions League spot with only three matches remaining in the Bundesliga season.
The ivo bit did it ha ha
@Suba
Are you pissed off because I united you with the commie Ivo Josipovic, or said Fuck you to ya?
FU buddy if you think Croats are dumb asses you should watch your mouth buddy because I’m not not sure what you’re qualifications are in Croatian political matters are exactly
@Suba
You don’t know shit about Croatian affairs, stick to sports comments because serious comments are not for your kind.
Fuck Ivo Josipovic and Fuck you.

Can we please all move on from this he’s a Yugoslav communist or a Croatian Ustashi business because its dividing us and we are too few in numbers to be divided.
Croatia is what is at the moment for better or worse and we all must be united to make it better and stronger in the future
By the way Franco was a commie but his eyes was opened when he saw that the serbs were intent on creating a greater serbia behind the scenes
“Without the Diaspora, there would be no Croatia”
That’s false, and the diaspora shouldn’t flatter themselves by believing that lie.
You must’ve missed my comment where I called Drazen Petrovic a formerly happy Yugoslavian man?
Now, the real reason there is a so called Croatia today, it’s because of the cetniks who weren’t happy being Yugoslavs as much as the “Croats” were.
The new otac domovina Franjo Sranjo Tudman was a communist so what problem would he have had with Yugoslavia? That’s correct, none.
What happened was the communists rose up, lol, against the cetniks because they saw an opportunity to become communist Ustase lol.
Believe me when I say this, besides me and a few others, Croats are dumb cunts.
@ Truth – “Haha… I laid that song quote out for the diaspora to bite…. Those in Canada especially.”
I don’t get it. Anyone can google search the lyrics within seconds and if no one responded you would have tried to poke fun for not knowing.
Well I will give it to you Truth, either the jokes on us and you’re the ultimate troll or you genuinely are retarded.
I know I just left a post against name calling but you’re special. There’s a 50% chance I am wrong and a 50% chance I am right.
Haha… I laid that song quote out for the diaspora to bite…. Those in Canada especially
Indeed it was Prijatelj by Thompson
Not as rah rah a Thompson song as many of his. This one has some interesting introspection of the disenchantment of former branitelji in the war… Relevant topic to think about
“Why the fuck have they not gone through lustration yet?”
The new otac domovina Franky Tudman was a fucking commie and he won us our “independence,” so the Croats don’t need to go through lustration, because if it wasn’t for the commies we’d still be a part of communist Yugoslavia lol.
@The truth
Can you name the song that contains these lyrics?
“U školu sam pješke išao po nekoliko sata jedna kišna kabanica na mene i brata.”
@ The Truth
You speak the truth. Disapora Croats give a million more fucks about Croatia than those inside Croatia do. The Diaspora willingly and happily took on the traditions and promoted the identity of Croatia that our parents taught us after they moved to Australia, the US, Canada, Germany, etc. in the 60’s, 70’s, etc. whilst the relos back in the homeland endured 45 years of Serb commo gamad rule. Read up on the Croatian Six here from Sydney, Australia. That’s the type of shit that we endured. Fucked over by the actual government of the country we lived in.
A lot of the folks back in Croatia became brainwashed and that brainwashing will last another 100 years I reckon. Croatia might never recover from it. Brothers against brothers. One’s a commo and one’s a domoljub. How the fuck?
Some of the shit that you read about what’s on going on there, in the parliament especially are mind blowing. I tell you know that if someone like Pupovac or Josipovic spewed that shit here in Australia they would have been taken out a long time ago.
Why the fuck have they not gone through lustration yet? It’s the only former commo country that hasn’t.
Commos are still ruling over there and have a lot of influence. And that’s what the Diaspora cannot fathom. We all fought and contributed in many different ways to win that war. And the situation today over there just leaves me scratching my head. We’re seen as the ‘Ustasa Emmigrators’ by most of the population over there. But as long as our dollars keep flowing through their economy we’ll be tolerated.
Without the Diaspora, there would be no Croatia and all our male cousins would still be doing 2 years in the army with a red star on their fucking foreheads.
It’s just fucking frustrating that we all can’t be on the same page. We’re not dumb cunts. We’re a proud fucking race. We should be a mini Switzerland.
This is a sports site so apologies for the rant. I do like some of the posters here and what they have to say.
It’s so fucking frustrating.
ZDS.
@The truth
“ja sam ovdje bogat čovjek a u dušu nemam nista”
Can you name that song, a lot of the diaspora Croats like yourself can relate to this?
*Thompson
Ya Thompsom Prijatelji.
@The Truth
“Nisu cure sto su bile, sve su se u gradu skrile
Bonus points to the one who can name that song”
I gotta say I don’t know the song but I’ll try and guess.
If someone other then you asked I’d just guess Thompson, but since it’s you that’s asking I’m gonna say it’s not Thompson, am I on the right track my friend?
@Razbijač yes, definitely. He’s been arguably Atalanta’s second or third best player this season behind Zapata and Iličić (half Croat). Whatta great season for Atalanta.
Funny how ex-Haduk guys like Basic and Pasalic have managed to get there career on track, while ex-Dinamo talents Coric and Rog are struggling for minutes….
@ CroatiaU14
Yep, Pasalic must be in the Squad for the qualifiers. Heck I’d rate the kid a head of Kovacic, Rog, and Badelj in the midfield pecking order.
Pasalic does it again for Atalanta! And the assist comes from none other than Zapata.
Mario sealed the victory today, sending his team into 4th place. Man, Pasalic has really picked up his game!
@JB yes!! He deserves to be on the team for the rest of the qualifiers. Great talent.
Pasalic again for Atalanta
Obviously fake truth post above
Crnkovic speaks of something relevant and that is that the diaspora Croats (even with their poor Croatian) probably care a lot more about being Croatian than many of the actual Croats
Especially those in Zagreb, who are more European in nature, love social media, and have moved on from Catholicism
Nisu cure sto su bile,sve su se u gradu skrile
Bonus points to the one who can name that song
Crnkovic lots of fish in the sea,and at times it’s better to be with a bottom feeder that knows a good worm than a sea bass that won’t take the bait!
Speaking of skin color…..I love me some black cock!
The African American is not our burden.
Yeah. Thanks anon. Harsh words were spoken. I’m a hot head. I have to put my faith in God. Try and learn how to catch myself before I blow. It’s not good.
@Crnkovic
So promises have been broken, man that’s a tough one.
But, I can help you, if you answer me these questions three.
Have harsh words been spoken?
Is your lady to proud to make up?
Because I’m sensing that love hasn’t walked out the door, at least from your end?
If there was only some way you could talk it over.
girl i love gave me one condition, i promised her, i broke it. if i tell you what it was you’d say “that’s bullshit, what does she want” but the story i know, i fucked up. maybe you all at croatian sports can sign a petition tell her to give crnkovic another chance. HAHA. that would make my day…nah she’ll be back…i guess. why did i do that? so stupid. i need to get my shit together
not that i don’t believe what i said. it’s just a weird thing to say
a guy in my state of mind shouldn’t be posting on a sports website. haven’t slept or eaten in 3 days
@anonymous, IKR? yeah i’m going mad. bad few weeks
@Crnkovic
You should be a comedian, that was the funniest comment I’ve ever read lol!
some people go to church because they want to look good in the eyes of the community. some go because they really love jesus. who can say
it’s complicated. it’s not simple. i’m half croat. my croatian is dreadful. but I cried at half time of the semi final with england. seeing the fear in those boys, struggling to find their rhythm. it hurt. it’s not easy to explain. what i’m saying is that everyone is different. and everyone has a different idea of what it means. you can’t force people to see their identity the same way. people will be confused. i know many people from different countries, religions, class, politics. one minute they say they british the next minute they say they bengali the next minute they say all that matters is religion, then it’s all about your level of education. the world has scattered us, hurt us and inspired us in so many ways, and all these boxes never quite fit. because we are bigger than any box. usually diaspora people of any identity put a mythical relevance to their homeland or culture in a way that people who actually live there, back home, don’t get. because for a croat living in croatia it’s not the be all and end all to be croatian. putting food on the table and falling in love will always be more important that what genes or religion or nationality or gender or whatever. and to think we know ourselves or another because of these identities. it’s madness. the sheep and wolf live in the same country. even in the same body. my struggle is not the struggle of a croat. it’s the struggle of a human being who has got hopes, fears, responsibilities and love. same as anyone anywhere anytime in history. ok. sounds cliche, and probably obvious. but it’s true. i swear. let my fiance down. nothing else matters. would i swap a smile on my sons face for a croatia win? never. but i support the boys, and get really angry and sad if they let me down. some people will say “it’s only football” i used to try and explain it. why it’s so important. but not any more. it is what it is. i don’t know
@Maminjo
“People who say “oh it’s the same thing, just different religions” are basing their statement on no data.”
Drazen Petrovic (Sibenik born), why was he forced into being a Croat when he was a previously happy Yugoslav?
Sinisa Mihajlovic (Vukovar born), why is he a Serb?
Sibenik and Vukovar were both a part of Yugoslavia but are now part of the dependant state of Croatia?
yeah its really good to see rebic playing in a number of positions. the best way for him to become a complete striker. comfortable working the channels, dropping in between the lines to link play, shooting from distance, playing with his back to goal, and finishing in the box. complete forward
Ante Rebić has played all over the attacking third this season.
I like him as a hard driving #10.
His game is fine tuning in his 20’s like Olić.
Love how our boys continue to improve through their 20’s.
If we can just skip the 18-24 wasteland transfers to zero playing time then we can have a World Cup winning squad every cycle.
wolfsburg have been playing with a diamond midfield 4 which means no wingers. so its a tactical thing to a degree. that’s football. he’ll adapt in time, or move, or whatever. he has talent i have no worries about him. seems like a very strong headed kid as well
Sosa finally played an entire game after changing coaches. Looks like Brekalo is screwed. I don’t understand how such a talented player can’t get any time.
Vida over lovren any day!!
Vida scored again today…Vlašić received two yellows
@Drek
Depends what you are looking at.
A lot of country height rankings are surveys with small samples (which is not accurate). Some are actually country-wide data from an actual National Database.
Either way, it doesn’t matter.
A fraction separates the top-10 nations. More importantly, the point still stands that the tallest people in the world are from Scandanavia, The Netherlands and anyone who touches the Dinaric Alps.
Exactly where Haplogroup I is concentrated at its strongest. Check out the map below:
https://www.eupedia.com/europe/maps_Y-DNA_haplogroups.shtml
@ Maminjo – Brilliant post, exactly the type of well thought out and informative posts this site needs which keeps people coming back when they can share ideas with one another. ZDS.
@ Crnkovic – I never thought you were trying to wind people up. There are just those that as Maminjo described as looking at things in terms of “black and white,” or simply based on colour which makes a harmless post like, “we’re all mixed,” seem like something it’s not and then they get angry because they think you are trying to say something else.
A lot of people also see geographical lines/borders as a measurement of what culture you are when the lines of history are redrawn so often.
Most Hercigovci and Bosansci lose their shit when some bonehead says they’re not Croatian (yep there are some people who actually believe that) because they live a few metres East in what would be another country, BiH.
Sure they mave stronger influences from the Ottomans as opposed to my parents and ancestors from Dalmacija/Istra (Venetians aka Mlečani) and Greece (Liburnians in Zadar) but they are still Croatian. Just research where the majority of Croatian Kings are from.
7th tallest, a simple google search does wonders!
There’s no such thing as black or white anyway.
Most people losing their shit on this site are just Americans or Canadians who are detached from the rest of the world and are just wired in a “white” vs “black” fashion (because they are melting pot nations who lost their European culture a long time ago, and have nothing else to hold onto).
Yes, there are Africans and there are Europeans, and within these groups there are many variances that make a person unique. We can get into genetic halpogroups (which actually show Croats being a lot more similar to people from Scandanavia than our fellow “Eastern Europeans”) but that is a big discussion.
I wouldn’t consider Croats and Serbs as the “same thing” just because they are “white”. There actually are a lot of genetic and cultural differences between them, which makes them different.
Serbs were under Ottoman control for five centuries and many of them accepted it (despite what Serbian mythology will tell you). They will always be notably different from Croats because of this. People who say “oh it’s the same thing, just different religions” are basing their statement on no data, and feel they are smart for saying blanket statements like this (when, in fact, it is baseless).
There will always be regional influences, but there were also a lot of protocols in place throughout history that preventing “mixing” like there is today. Nevertheless, there still was mixing to a degree depending on the empires you belonged to.
Croats are the tallest people in the world, likely due to the tribe that originally migrated to that region (that share the same tall genetics as the Scandanavians where they probably originally came from). The Dutch and surrounding Scandanavians nations are all the next tallest people in the world. We all share the same genes. This is fact.
Mix in some of the halpogroups found in Slavic tribes (from which our language was adopted) and suddenly the world thinks you’re an eastern european people, like the Russians, just because of your language group.
You settle in Croatia, with some fair mixing with some of the Franks and Venetians due to the shared empires…and everyone thinks you’re “Austro-Hungarian” or just “white” based off of that alone.
Tons of Croats were labelled as “Austrian” when they migrated to the USA (like Roger Maris and Antun Lucas) despite having pretty much zero cultural or genetic similarities to those nations.
Anyway…I’m rambling now. But my point is, that it’s always best to avoid the whole “labeling yourself as a color” thing. It’s nonsense, and it’s too politically-tied to things that don’t matter.
Always call yourself a Croat (since you can’t just list out your genetic code every time someone asks)… but there is a lot more truth to who you are when you call yourself a Croat (over simply calling yourself a color).
Zardoz Spremni!
Is Karlo ziger the answer to our goal keeping issues.He’s young but he sure looks promising.
Does anyone have a good link to Hoffenheim?
Also Chelsea?
Thanks
@Crnkovic
As long as you know how many teams you support, that’s important.
I only support Croatia!
seriously though. i’m not trying to wind anyone up. yes i’m more mixed than many. you are what you are. it’s not for me to say. apologies if i hurt anyones feelings.
haha. brilliant! i’m in tears here
That was me directly above not an anonymous. Sorry, the name never saved in my post.
FFS – Geeze I see where this thread is already going. Before we have another shit storm over Crnkovic’s “we’re all mixed comment,” people need to cool their jets and read a history book. Don’t take comments so literally.
Croatia was under Venetian rule, Austro-Hungary, German, Italian, French, Yugoslavia etc etc let’s not even get into Illyrians, Pannonians and other tribes pre Roman era and pre Slavic migration. No one is homogenous. There’s a reason we have mediterranean looking Croats, blonde fair skinned blue eyed and anything in between.
Practically no where in the world aside from some pigmy albino tribes in South America that have inbreeding forever is homogenous. Let’s not lose our shit here. Not my opinion either it’s historical fact if you ask anyone with half a brain and can read.
Ante you should have a test that needs to be taken on this site regarding povijest etc so you have to qualify for certain chats. That way you eliminate a lot of online arguing between people who have somewhat of an idea vs people that don’t and shit on anyone who doesn’t support their view.
Don’t believe me? Watch as I will now be torn to shreds over this post.
Mixed with what ?
@Crnkovic
“We all mixed whether we like it or not”
speak for urself m8
I only support Croatia!
Some can support many teams lol.
Yeah. We all mixed whether we like it or not. But we know who we support. That’s important.
Ellis island fucked around with the spelling of lastnames ,so immigrants can be more American thats old news.Interpretor,Fiorello LaGuardia, a U.S. congressman and three-term mayor of New York City, who worked at the immigration station during the day, while he went to law school at night. LaGuardia was the son of an Italian father and a Jewish mother from Austria-Hungary, and spoke Italian, German, Yiddish and Croatian, says the Park Service.
He’s from Pennsylvania, so he probably has ancestry from around there.
They completely butchered those Croat last names when then emigrated to the States…especially those who went to Western New York and Pennsylvania.
I’m still wrapping my head around how “Biličić” becomes Belichick.
The last name “Vinović” is pretty popular. I bet someone just misread the “V” as a “W” and there you have it.
There’s no W in the Croatian alphabet, I’d say no.
Is Chase Winovich a hrvat?
