IS SRNA CONFUSED?
Darijo Srna was linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe only a few weeks ago. Rumors of the Croatian winger moving to Champions League holders Barcelona seemed to have almost become a reality. Now- nothing!
So what happened? Why did the offers just stop like that so suddenly?
If I had to put money on it, I would say Srna has already made his decision and will remain captain of UEFA Cup champions Shakhtar Donetsk. But anything can happen in the summer transfer window so we’re just going to have to sit and be patient until official news out of Ukraine is released.
Srna was also linked with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.
Looks like Klasnic is off to Schalke and Petric is being offered double his Hamburg salary by Wolfsburg.
@dinaofan…..If you look go back to the 98 team, guys like Boban, Boksic, Bilic….there careers were all cut short because of numerous injuries. Prosinecki didit too himself with his lifestyle.
Suker was still capable of moments of genius at Arsenal but his time at West Ham was very bad as he received enormous wages for barely playing or even turning up. I'm just saying how anoymous can say the golden generation was the example of total professional is a bit of joke. They were all just extremely talented. It was only really guys like Soldo who made the most out of his limited ability through professional. The rest were all truly gifted and when they reached 30 they were all finished cos they weren't actually that professional and hard working or had the enthusiasm any longer. Basically if someone bids a decent price Srna will go, but these stupid big clubs expect Shaktar to give him away and thats why he's not left. In my opinion some of these big clubs do little more than swipe other teams best players to win trophies. If they don't want Srna enough to bid a proper fee then they should get lost and Srna should stay where he is loved. As long as his teammates stay and Shaktar don't need the money they will only grow and get even better. Yes fact Ukraine is not a strong league, but Kiev and Donetsk are still better than much of the rest of teams in so called big leagues. Even Bayern and Milan if you actually look at those sides i don't see what is so great there. As for Brandao wasn't his position in Shaktars team very instable which is more likely why he transferred. Kiev is the team that should be more worried considering they just lost their star striker to little Rennes.
All these guys are playing for the money, as they should.
Suker was washed up when he went to Arsenal and anyone could see that. Not his fault Arsenal threw money at him.
What the – r u kidding? Davor Suker, Robert Jarni, Zvone Boban, Robert Prosinecki, Aljosa Asanovic all guity of seeking money rather than focusing on football. Especially Robert Jarni who was a disgrace at Las Palmas. Prosinecki can't be said to have tested himself when he smoked so much and played for Dragovoljac in his late 20's – and as for Asanovic there was another very lazy player for you. Suker was my idol, but he switched off after he played for Arsenal and it was all about picking up money from that point on. Boban – also retired definitely in mind by time he was 30. Dario Simic – signing contracts when he was never playing at Milan cos the money was good. Alen Boksic had the biggest pay cheque in Premier League for a time. Every footballer wants as much as he can get. Thats fact. That golden generation particularly liked their money.
When the 1990's generation were in their prime they were one of the best groups ever. But when they reached Euro 2000 and 2002 they were a bunch of old guys hanging on for far too long and showed that most of them got by through extreme ability rather than fitness and professionalism as they couldn't last for much longer than age 30. As i say you can't pick on Srna just for staying at Shaktar. Football needs strong clubs in different areas. Barca, Milan, Real, Chelsea actually don't deserve to dominate Europe just by smashing other teams squads apart and then what if Srna is benched hows that in his advantage? I don't mind Barca when they produce players like Messi, Javi, Iniesta and like when they bought Etto from Mallorca, but with guys like Dani Alves you just think so what – Sevilla are responsible for his progress. All they done there is throw money to solve a situation. Maybe they were scared of Sevilla so decided to wreck them. To me there is nothing special about clubs that do that. I'd rather players hold out as long as possible from going to the big clubs and try and drag them down from the decent sides they are at. Yes and going by this logic Milan made Kaka and Man Utd made Ronaldo so if Real win everything this year who cares. They just bought success. If they found the next Argentine or Brazilian star from South America and won the league that way i'd have more respect for them, but my opinion is buying other teams best players just isn't proper way of winning things.
I don't buy into this – mainly as Shaktar are a really good club with very strong players. There team isn't all about Srna and if they let him go they'd still compete strongly in Champions League and UEFA Cup.
I don't understand why Croats advocate all the players going to Italy, England, Spain all the time. Why dont these so called big clubs grow their own players rather than taking every single good player and saying we are the best when they have blatantly done nothing special apart from throw money about.
I'm totally in favor of a team like Shaktar holding their ground and not letting players go. Why should they? if someone wants Srna give £15m to £20m – simple and am sure Srna will go. If these clubs expect Srna to go for £5m to £8m they are out of their minds. Everyones giving Srna abuse but the only offer he has at the moment is Shaktar. What are people asking for him to do – to go on strike or something?
Someone said Shaktar would not have got through first round if UEFA Cup was like it used to be – but Milan, Bayern, Zenit (this year) and Valencia were all in the competition in last 2 years and got nowhere. Shaktar played so many Euro matches to win that competition besides the Champions League. Is that not the ultimate test of endurance when you can play all those matches and still win a trophy?? Also doesn't anyone think that people like Ilsino, Jadson and Fernandinio are just class. Its a fine side. As i say i don't see why everyone must join Barca. I just think with Srna this is one guy who is actually settled and doing well at club and international level and we seem to want to destabilise him. People saying he is going downhill in Ukraine but the guy has definitely improved as a tactical player and as a big match performer. Maybe he's not an all out winger no more – but he still supplies crosses and scores goals (second top scorer behind Suker). Also is that not what Modric, Rakitic and Kranjcar are in the team to do to create. Its not like its just Srna's job to create.
@Ziva istina
Its all about the money. Plain and simple: he is getting paid the most and is playing on the field the most if he stays in the Ukraine.
At this point, if he doesnt go to play somewhere else in europe this summer, he will retire with Shakhtar.
@ziva istina i agree we arnt to judge for that most of us would do the same its hard to leave a club that treats you like a king! he is god there and is treated that way he has respect for them and them for him… Ya its nice to see him go to top club but he is getting everything he wants there
It's easy to justify staying…..Stay in the Ukraine and make 5 million tax free with all expenses paid.
Or got to another club in Europe where the money will be less and will have to pay taxes on his oncome.
Easy for us to sit here and type that he should move, but it is about the money sometimes.
When he is done playing he might have 50 million euros in his bank account by staying in the Ukraine as opposed to 30 million going somewhere else.
@ Anonymous – I couldn't agree with you more. I will lose allot of respect for Dario if he chooses to stay in the Ukraine for the big pay check once more. The same thing happened last time, he was very vocal from the get go, he wanted to move. A few weeks pass by and his language completely changes. Why? because the billionaire owner gives him a huge raise. 2 Years later, he is very vocal from the beginning, he wants to go, suddenly, he ios open to staying. Suker, Boban, Prosinecki and Jarni all challeneged themselves by joining the elite of Europe. Even Goran Vucevic tried to fight for his place at Barca in the early 90s. If he stays, I lose allot of respect for him. There is no way anyone can justify him staying, even Brandao moved away from the Ukraine to join Marseille
This story doesn't even deserve comment. Gone are the days of class players/individuals like Boban, Soldo, et. al who were striving to be better players and to be associated with the best clubs. Unfortunately this "idiot" generation that grew up post-war is concerned about nothing but big pay cheques and material possessions. They could care less for club, let alone country. This is why we never have any players even near the best in the world (except for Suker in 98, behind Zidane and Ronaldo, after which of course this got to Suker's head and he rarely played again). Srna, the small-minded individual he is, will stay at Shaktar because it's the easy thing to do, and so that he can get the best treatment in the restaurants of the bustling European city of Donetsk 😉
UEFA cup champs? JOKE! If we went back to the old and "true" champions league where Europe's top clubs actually participated in the UEFA cup, Shaktar wouldn't make it past the second round. And people forget that Shaktar were in the UEFA cup because they made an early exit out of the Champions league.
Enough from me on this topic.
Pozz is Toronta
Srna – He needs to leave shaktar i dont agree with you that they are better team then bayern because they simply are not…but they are a good club. I think he needs to leave for sake of playing in a better league i know shaktar is a good club but he will be playing versus better players in other leagues making himself better. But he is treated like royalty in Shaktar so i dont see him leaving…he will be paid alot of money to stay as much as any club can offer him and he will be chairman when he retires is the rumor.
Remember, there is still a long way to go before the transfer window closes.
As for Pletikosa…The Russian leagues only allows a certain number of foreigners without a russian passport to play. The coach has even admitted that Pletikosa is slightly better than the other keeper, but he needs that foreign allocation spot for some of the field players to play, so Pletikosa is stuck on the bench.
Klasnic… will have a tougher time. Teams are concerned about his health with transplant. That is a big risk to take and if I was a team I would avoid him as well.
After the seasons finish in Europe, it seems like it's just a cluster **** with all of the transfers and offers happening at the same time. Also, at first it seemed like Srna was fielding offers but then he seemed to have shut the door on them.
I don't get this about Srna. He's at a good club. The bids stopped coming as none of those teams like Barca can guarentee him a starting place unlike Shaktar and as for Bayern i don't think they are really exactly better than Shaktar. Srna is also second top scorer behind legendary Suker so i dont see how he is going backwards in his career at Shaktar. He's our most consistent player besides Eduardo. Personally i don't see what it matters if he stays. He's worth over £15m easily and obviously this takes a lot of money from the interested clubs so they decided against it. Shaktars chairman can match whatever the clubs can pay him. At present Pleikosa is concerning, Klasnic is concerning and Leko might yet move, but most of the other players have resolved their future for next season. Even if all those HNL players stay like Sharbini, Vrucina and Kalinic is no big problem. Hoping for some positive move for Pleti or Klasnic otherwise i reckon we're prob all agreed they gotta be dropped. I think Klasnic at least will get a move though.
