BRANIMIR KVARTUČ REPORTING FROM SPLIT, CROATIA
In a city devoted to Hajduk Split, where city walls and lamp posts are covered in the club’s logo, colors and poetry, lies another team which is quickly rising to the top like a lotus out of the mud- Rnk Split. It was only five seasons ago that Rnk Split were playing in the Croatian fourth division. With promotion in every season since, Rnk Split finished third in the HNL last year to earn a spot in Europa League qualifying. With a 5-2 aggregate win over Slovenian side Domžale, Split had the opportunity of a lifetime, to play Premiership side Fulham in the Europa League third qualifying round.
With an impressive 0-0 first leg result in Croatia, Rnk Split had everything to play for in England. Their luck would however run out at Craven Cottage as Split lost 2-0 in an exit from Europa League.
But who roots for Rnk Split with Hajduk right across the street?
Radnički nogometni klub Split stands for ‘Workmens’ Football Club of Split.’ Being founded one year after Hajduk in 1912, Rnk represents the ‘blue collar’ workforce persona of the city. Although Split will forever be Hajduk territory, Rnk fans find that their club represents the heart and soul of Split, just as the Steelers do for Pittsburgh or the Red Sox for Boston. Unlike most cross-city rivalries, their is little to no hatred between the two clubs’ supporters with Hajduk and Rnk Split personifying a respectful ‘big brother-little brother’ relationship instead. Most Split fans actually have no problem rooting for Hajduk, when they’re not playing Rnk, of course.
@ ustaša sydney: death to all fascist. 🙂
rnk split rocks.

ZIVIO HAJDUK SPLIT
I just saw it and the coach confirmed that Ivo is likely going to Hamburg. So Croatburg seems to be in order in Hamburg. Good to see Ivo moving up club wise, this should be good for him. He is on the rise because we all know Kaiserlatuern isn't very good.
Ilicevic transfer all but official

sadly…i dont think modders will leave… ;/
Liverpool supposedly about to make a last minute double swoop for Corluka and Kranjcar, combined $32m
I could only hope that Ziva is willing to contribute any sort of content to CSR….Ziva, whatever you are willing to contribute will be valued (at least by the people that run the site) I personally like that you come off as a bit arrogent to some. It makes for great discussions and great comments. I would just recommend that we agree that your content will be simple and easy for you to produce and will not create any hardship for your time and energy.
@Ziva Istina,
The poll is almost 50-50. 54 people are on your side and a half dozen regulars here on CSR.
If you are serious, I will fax you a contract offer 🙂
Shoot me an email at paluka81@yahoo.com
thanks
Sunderland offering $16 million for Peter Crouch… Tottenham should jump on that.
After all those posts, discussions, polls, and comments about Modric, Kranjcar, and Corluka taking off….
guess what….
Crottenham lives on….
Still a few hours left before the transfer window closes….. tic toc tic toc tic toc…
CRVENI DAVOLI, komunisticki klub.
RNK = Radnicki Nogometni KOMUNISTA! 😉
Malo sale 😉
R. Kovac, Toronto ("Niko kao Hajduk iz Splita!")
Ja sam Davor Bacic alcoholic man from Split hahahahahahaha
imenjak najjaci si, svaka cast
After their first practise on brac starting line up speculation is
pletikosa
vrsaljko corluka lovren strinic
srna badelj modric peresic
mandzukic klasnic
If this stays this way cant see simunic playing against isreal. If bilic wanted simunic in i think he would have given him the start against malta considering he hasnet been playing!
Anyway i like the line up if it does stay this way, added width play along the lines, plus badelj perfect player for a team like malta dont see why we would need dujmo or vuko.
Even against isreal wouldnt mind seeing badelj considering well have alot of ball possesion! I think in alot of our home games vucko dosent doo much, in my opinion i see his purpose more on the road but id rather go for it at home!
Keep on the good work?! Keep up the good work of course.
Nice work, Croatian soccer report. This is the kind of stuff I like to read. And also nice work, leaders of Rnk Split. We don't have a strong league at all. But people like you, do great things to make the Croatian football stronger! Keep on the good work, we need you.
@ Ziva and Croatian Soccer Report
I think the general question asked about ziva having a weekly column or not should be changed to "yes" or "no". I think the general consensus here is that he won't post garbage…but also wont accept it either. the topic should be something related to soccer and Croatians and he should have autonomy to choose what he prefers. his posting that I've seen seem good…but like I said before I don't always agree (and even sometimes find some comments a little rude) but this isn't a popularity contest this is a croatian soccer report web site which has had many new member and non members participate in many different discussions, I think Ziva has sparked many of the discussions both positively and negatively and its good for people to have different perspectives.
@Brane
Nice work with the RNK interview, interesting stuff. It's too bad that the game wasn't in Poljud as I would've gone, but couldn't get a ticket to the game at the small stadium. On the other hand, I was on my way back from Trogir before the game, on the city bus, and felt the atmosphere in Split, and it seemed fairly benign, and your piece exactly explains why.
@Ziva
Sure, I voted for your column too, and I'd like to see it. Go for it!

@ziva
Finally.
@Tom and Slavonac…..I appreciate the kind words. Maybe, who knows. If the guys who run this site are willing, I think might contribute. But, it would have to be a weekly or every other week column/mailbag. Don't really feel like writing about soccer news, but more of a reaction or analysis to it.
No reports on Ivo to Hamburg, haven't heard a peep about that. Not sure where that came from. Tottenham can make a serious push for top four, no idea what your talking about. Parker is one of the best players in the EPL, I think his last few seasons proved it. Adebeyor is an animal and gives them a scoring threat. Craig Bellamy is another guy that may come in which would be huge.
16.17 Sportske Novosti report that Ivan Klasnic says his Croatia team-mate Luka Modric has told him he is going to stay at Tottenham.-Soccernet
Ivane, say it ain't so!!
If Modric gets his head back on straight with the Adebayor signing and Scott Parker coming to WHL (all but official)…Spurs can definitely finish top 6….I hope you guys know they can't do better than that…
Rangers have rejected a £6.5million bid from Leicester for striker Nikica Jelavic, the SPL club have confirmed on their official website. We kid you not – £6.5 million for Jelavic. Madness! -Soccernet
Jelavic could be a hero…bring Leicester to the Permiership and play with the big boys…would you want this move if you were him. Scotland is a shithole for soccer…suck it up for a year, score some goals and be in the Premiership next year!
usually not political, but RNK Split is pretty much a socialist/communist club, so no wonder their fans are the older type
Very interesting branimir, good job. Making me wish i was in split right now.
Ilicevic heading to Hamburg to replace Elia
Branimir,
Are you at all tempted to put together a piece on the massive controversy that has developed in Split since Sunday's city derby? Man, there is no shortage of news, e.g. Hajduk talking about boycotting the HNL, forcing Mamic to buy a ticket and sit in the stands with the BBB at the upcoming derby, Markovic saying he doesn't care what Hajduk has to say… even the ongoing talk of Simunic's arrival at Hajduk.
This is all powerful stuff. Needless to say, this is a tremendous opportunity for you… if you want to seize it:)
@Tom in WPG, the English wpeaker is from Ireland
Ziva,
I too would like to wholeheartedly encourage you to post a regular piece/column. Only you have insight, gleaned from reliable sources, to what's happening behind the scenes at Hajduk and the national team. We need more authoritative commentary and you're the only one who can provide it. So, what do you say?
Branimir… was that English speaker from Newfoundland?
@ Ziva
I know what you mean…you've proven to be a correct person and even though I don't always like your comments…I have to say I appreciate them!
kako se kaze? to nije samo istina…to je ziva istina!!!!!!
sorom ide sedam osam zena…ja poznajem koja muza nema!!!!!
Thanks Slavonac…..
I think I know the game, but I will not engage in long conversations about tactics on this board. I tried doing that in the first year or so when commenting, but I was met with replies like "XXXXX player should start over YYYYY player because his shots per minute were higher" or more recent comments like "Srna should move to the right side and play right back." You cant win when battling those type of comments.
Hajduk is and always will be the team for Dalmatinci, no question about it!
on another note I noticed there is a poll regarding Ziva Istina. I think he should have a weekly column, not for his knowledge of soccer (he knows the obvious information but i question his actual knowledge of the game itself) but moreso because he is relatively objective, doesn't post partial facts or bullshit and he's always good for a little controversy!
Great video!!!
There is nobody in Split that will claim not to support Hajduk. (except for our friend the drunken sailor) The question is wether Split could ever become as beloved as Hajduk and share in the fans passion. I say maybe in a 100 years???
Guys, I just want to applud you for this site, I grew tired long ago of scouring the internet constantly to find the latest news regarding the National Team and Croatians around Europe. Keep up the good work!
P.S how did you guys start this? just a hobby or somthing?

It looks like Split fans are all older…the 40+ crowd. Brane, were there any kids wearing red? I saw Toni in the back wearing his white Hajduk top…
Good stuff!
Will you be around for Croatia/Israel, Hajduk/Dinamo or Dinamo Real Madrid? You'd get some awesome video for the site while Denis and I are on the 2011 CSR North American tour.
Brane, well done. Your best work yet!
I really didn't know anything about Split fans. Its great to see that they follow both teams and don't hate on each other. I on the hand will never wear a Clippers jersey. Hoping that a rivalry would spark one day.
Great video as always Branimir. Can you just do this every match weekend?
