In real time it looked like the Villareal player was a mile offside. The play went to VAR and they drew the line at Gvardiol’s back heel. However, the Villareal passer hasn’t released the ball yet. I don’t get it. I might need to watch the replay 10 more times but this first goal in Thursday night’s game changed the entire course of the match. Villareal would score one more and ultimitely defeat Dinamo 3-1 on aggregate.
At the end of the day, Dinamo made the Europa League quarterfinals and defeated Tottenham along the way. Amazing!
On or Off?
Nice 👍 because I’m a fan of subasic and his performance at the WC I’m a Serb now
Dumb point Serba.
The ball wasnt hit to Vida or Lovren.
You gonna blame them for the shitty goalkeeping from your buddy in the final too?
If Boban ever took over HNS, he would somehow let Lillian Thuram take the position from him with ease.
Hns and Hnl already produces a coveyer belt of world class players. No one can deny that.
Juric is doing an excellent job at Verona. They play hard and with intelligent movement.
Bjelica has Osijek leading HNL.
This two are real class coaches.
We need more and more quality managers to produce more and more world class players.
https://sempremilan.com/repubblica-boban-set-for-top-role-within-uefa-after-dispute-with-milan-the-latest
Boban = Beast!!
This dude is a leader in world football.
If ever ran HNS, HNL would produce a conveyor belt of world class players.
Same reasons why outfield players do what they do long ball game, playing it wide, playing it out from the back, playing a high line in defense, working the ball into the box, counter-attack breaks only, and all the other things that outfield players do which fans moan about without realizing they are being told to do that by their boss.
prove that Dalic is a shiiit !!
Perhaps it should have been vida clearing out that cross from griezmann instead of Mandzo
Vida and Lovren were no where to be seen on that cross
Get your glasses checked out you muppet
Huh Mandzo wasn’t trying to cheer up vida
Mandza was chewing out Vida cuz he had his chin down and was acting all mopey amd shit.
Vida wasn’t the one that scored an own goal in the final. Vida also assisted Perisic’s goal.
I’m not big on conspiracy theories, but its funny how both the Europa League and Champions League draws lined up for potential “all English” finals.
None of these big players will ever come back to sign
It’s fun to play for your childhood team and try to make a cindarella run in cL or europa league
But you think modric has any interest in playing a road game against nk varazdin in February?…i think not
There is no bullshit with Mandzo
Remember he tore shreds off vida straight after the loss he n the final
He knew who fucked up
Hopefully he gets a chance to earn his salary this weekend. Zlatan is suspended, so its possible that Mario will start, or at least come off the bench. He’s only got 8 games to show that he’s worth getting signed for next season.
Hah!
.
Didn’t hear that Mandzukic story.
Havent been able to post for like a week and only got this one through when i left the “name” blank (anonymous). What’s up Ante?
https://www.espn.com/soccer/ac-milan/story/4361398/milans-mandzukic-foregoes-march-salary-after-injuries
Mandzukic is very well known for his “bad mood” sarcasm but he’s extremely popular amongst his teammates. We’ve seen tons and tons of players putting up their personal videos and imitating or quoting Mandzukic…making fun of him in a friendly way. He’s not a bully, he’s very well liked. Many of his ex teammates have called him to the clubs they ended up going to, everyone respects his very high work rate and they know he’s dependable!
Mandzo is a bit of a bully lol.
.
I recall back in Wolfsburg, he used to shoot ball at the youth players and use them as target practice, ha ha.
.
It’s good though. He’ll toughen them up a bit. 😉
@Maminjo,
.
.
What do you mean about Mandzukic? Is he tough on the youngsters?
Also, Edin Džeko is a Hajdukovac.
.
If Hajduk was as successful as Dinamo, they could have easily been doing the same thing.
.
Imagine signing a Džeko-caliber striker (along with maybe a Perisic) at the end of their careers, to play with a bunch of young talent.
.
There would be no need to waste money on these random veteran foreigners that both Dinamo and Hajduk sometimes buy.
.
Just go full domestic players (that you’ve developed via your farm system), and supplement them with former veterans who are willing to come back home to take bigger roles and play in tournaments.
@Dannyj
.
I think they do, but they can’t be stupid and leave millions on the table, and not even get to play in a competitive tournament too. It becomes a lose-lose scenario for them on both counts.
.
A lot of footballers don’t make anything close to pro athletes in the US.
I remember Niko Kranjcar didn’t want a transfer from Tottenham to any team that couldn’t meet his wage. His wage was like $2 million per year, and only Dynamo Kiev was interested in paying it.
Same as Corluka who went to Leverkusen on loan. They liked him, and wanted to keep him, but his salary was too high (I think it, too, was something around Kranjcar’s salary).
.
Going back to the HNL to take a pay cut would only be attractive if you can play a significant role on a team that is playing in an attractive tournament.
.
I think a player like Mandzukic is someone who is willing to take a cut, if it meant to play a bigger role on a team.
.
I doubt he likes being a bench player at Milan, and judging by him blowing off all those mid-table EPL and Serie A teams…I think he’s only interested in starting for his club, and playing for titles and Europa/Champions League tournaments.
.
Dinamo could realistically snag both Mandzo and Modric in a year from now.
I doubt Modric wants to play for any other team than Real when his contract is up (maybe Milan which was his favorite team growing up, but the Boban situation may have ended that).
Dinamo would be up there as well.
.
Imagine how much those kids would learn from Modric.
Then again, Mandzo would probably shatter their souls, so it’s probably a wash.
I do wonder if any of these guys ever have aspirations of ending where they started…
like you say they would actually have something to play for
But I guess after playing with the best of the best
It’s hard to get up to play a bottom dweller hnl team
I mean, if we’re gonna play guys like Kevin Theophile-Catherine or Rasmus Lauritsen…then I’d just rather swap these guys out with our former NT veterans.
.
It’s not like they’re any good or young. Dinamo won’t make cash off these guys either. They’re a waste of space.
If Dinamo can regularly qualify for Champions League and/or get into the knockout rounds of Europa…this make them attractive enough to be able to add a big name veteran free agent (to compliment their youth).
.
Normally, a player like Modric spending the final years of his career in the HNL would be considered a waste of time…but if Dinamo are pushing for Champions League Round of 16 (like they did two years ago) or are late in the knockout rounds of Europa (which they’ve done for two years in a row now), it would be worth it for a late-stage Modric.
Imagine this Dinamo team with Modric or Mandzo on it, lol.
.
10 years ago, it would be pointless for either of these guys to do this…but now, it’s not a bad option.
Obviously, Dinamo should never move away from being focused on youth development…but it would be pretty sick to snag a former National Team player who still has something to offer (like Modric, or maybe Mandzo). In a couple of years, Dinamo could probably be attractive to a player like Dzeko or Ibrahimovic too. Partner them with Modric, and round out the rest of the team with hungry youth players that do all the running, lol.
.
I’d sell Bruno after the Euros and go after Mandzo. When Modric is done with Real, then I’d add him too. Maybe add Corluka as well (if he still has anything in the tank).
No more than 2-3 of these guys, but it would be interesting.
We were never gonna win this tie – football/soccer has turned into a disgraced fixed sport for many many years now – if you ain’t English, Spanish, German, Italian or French and a smaller nation going up against these clubs from the big 4/5 then you ain’t getting the calls. Sometimes ref can’t do anything about the brilliance (orsic hat trick against Spurs) ((out comeback against England semis WC) but eventually you’ll get snuffed out. Only tennis and F1, perhaps hockey as well have legitimate standards for non-bias refs/cheating and even those sports have there minor faults. None as bad as soccer tho-beautiful game my ass- it may be alright at times but most think we have a legitimate shot at ever since not a euro or WC are dreaming. Not because of lack of talent but because of those in charge. I’ll bet anything something will fuck us this euros that isn’t fair. Sports turned into a joke if you ain’t one of the top 5 leagues mentioned. Dortmund got screwed and so did Porto both against English meat pie eating douchebags. Never understood why english fans where those longshanks war outfits goin to a football match. Drunk chirpers – it’s football not war you dirty hooligans – go fix your teeth and see a dentist
It was a great and historic run for Dinamo. I am only disappointed because of their game plan at the beginning of this match. Instead of coming out to attack, press, and hunt for that crucial 1st goal; they sat back and bunkered from the opening whistle. Maybe they would have still lost, but at least it would have been a braver way to lose.
I didn’t watch the game, but it seems like an excellent result (if losing can even be considered excellent). Not only reaching the quarter finals, but being extremely competitive is very impressive.
.
I saw the highlight of the first goal and am baffled at how VAR overruled the linesman. To me it seems clear that it really was offside.
Failure of a season for Dinamo.
.
Time to fire Krznar.
… OR….and complete massacre and the team can fall apart
Ok, what the?
.
Villarreal scores an offside goal, and it goes to VAR… and they give it anyway?
.
The British commentator is all confused too.
Looks nice.
.
Good news that they’re not pushing for that ‘Plavu Vulkan’ disaster.
Dinamo present new stadium in Zagreb:
https://www.croatiaweek.com/photos-dinamo-present-new-stadium-in-zagreb/
Hopefully in my lifetime.
If the Majer-Orsic-Ivanusec trifecta all have a good game, then Dinamo will score and things will get very interesting.
.
Dinamo is going to (yet again) make a killing on their player sales, and come out with a similar strength team next season…probably integrating guys like Burton and Franjic onto the senior team.
.
Rinse, Repeat.
this is what makes the game so incredible! There are literally hundreds of scenarios that can create an outcome and its just a matter of all the stars lining up for any of those scenarios to happen. we can score a goal from a set play or even get scored on in the first minute….either way, Dinamo will need to find their solution to score and not fold to the pressure they’ll have to defend. sometimes in situations like this and unsung hero can rise….and unlikely scorer OR….and complete massacre and the team can fall apart….
.
I guess we will have to wait and see!
Scoring obviously critical, but also being strong and not making stupid defensive mistakes. Lauritsen and another defender caused the error which gave Harry Kane the chance in extended time, which Livakovic saved with the stop of his life.
.
.
Defence is been Dinamo’s achilles heel the last few seasons in Europe. Hope it doesn’t bite them in this game.
Good points, Slavonac.
.
As others mentioned too and I agree. Dinamo NEED that first goal to make it a game. If they go down a goal either closer to HT or after it, thats a mighty tough hill to climb – especially if guys like Pekotovic and Gavranovic are question marks.
I’m not sure this is true but I read that both Petkovic and Gavrinovic are not starting or maybe not even playing. If this is the case, Orsic will be easier to manage and I highly doubt he will do much on his own. He performance vs Tottenham was a “once in a blue moon” situation…will not happen against Villarreal. Dinamo will have to press forward and play a smart game, block the middle of the field and do their diligence defending…then fast counter-attacks!
Dinamo can win, but they need to score first. They played well in the 1st half of last game, and got very unlucky with that penalty call. Once they were down, they lost their momentum. One goal for Dinamo…and its “game on”.
I say no. Villa will definitely have reminders of the Dinamo comeback posted all over their dressing room – they will bunker down and not this time for Dinamo- can’t take away shocking success and we may have found some good potential players for you Euro but all good things must come to an end.
