The Champions League/Europa League knockout round draw will be held Thursday, December 20th, and for another year running, Croatia’s best hope, Dinamo Zagreb, will not take part. After the worst Champions League campaign in history during their 2011 run, Dinamo lost all six games and finished with a -19 goal differential. However, they made it back to the promised land again in 2012, where the Modri needed extra time of their last and final group stage match to score their first and only goal. It was against a struggling Dynamo Kiev side in a meaningless match played in heavy snow, but Dinamo found the back of the net through a penalty shot and celebrated accordingly.
So I ask the question:
At this rate, should Dinamo Zagreb even aim for Champions League in the future?
Yes, the money is good, and I’m sure general manager Zdravko Mamić is investing it well (sarcasm font) but Dinamo played to a less than half full Maksimir in all three matches this campaign vs. Porto, PSG and Dynamo Kiev. In Dinamo’s defense, they were dealt an unsexy draw this year with no Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid coming to Zagreb, but nonetheless, this is still Europe’s elite football tournament.
Before this season got underway, I wrote in an August 21st article that Dinamo should aim to be playing in Europe’s second-tier tournament, the Europa League, where they would be able to compete instead of being pelted with 3-4 goals every match. It would be in Mamić’s best interests even though his club wouldn’t be able to shine on the big stage. His players would have better performances, ergo more transfer opportunity instead of putting out a futile side against European giants.
With Dinamo having a comfortable 8-point lead at the winter break in the Croatian Prva Liga, all signs point to another title. But when they begin Champions League qualifying in the summer, what should be their ultimate goal?
The simple answer is Europa League.
Well, at least hajduk will look good in Nike gear next season as we look at the table at dinamo.
You got it. Ziva is 100% factually correct regarding Hajduk.
Ziva is very factually correct, just like his statement he made about Gotovina stealing money, what a huge accusation, based upon NO facts.
@ziva you are factually correct. Certain people here are unable to accept that.
@nine bitno…..not bitter and not trying to impress. I just know what I talk about based on what I have seen firsthand and heard over the years. What the media reports is only part of the sranje. Just answer me this, what have I said that is not factually correct or based on logical conclusions.
Current state of hajduk = African children looking to be fed…..sve je jadno.
@Cico “not even worth my time” You dipshit why even mention my post. Think before you write. You moron. I will steal one of your lines. You are arrogant like your team.
Dr. Colin , Thanks , i Sretan Bozic to you , & All . Anonymous your not even worth my time.
some would say sick, some would say funny.
What say you, Croatianssports.com world?
@Cico only terrible thing here is you.
Ziva , that was a Terrible thing to say . Sick ,Very Sick .
@Ziva Istina I did not think you could improve on the Sally Struthers line but once again you have done it. Poor Cico.
Cico…….hater????? how so.
and that makes the other 10 teams even worse…….hajduk equals african children looking for food; the other ten clubs in HNL = dying gay man with AIDS on his hospital bed
@Ante – It’s true. I didn’t wake up one day and say, “I’m going to cheer for Dinamo.” My Great-uncle dedicated over a decade of his life to that team. It’s only right of me to honor that.
@Cico/Sime – I’m not here to hate on ya. I love talking trash, but I like that there’s someone here that has your passion for Hajduk.
Bolestan , so that’s what the B in Ante B means . I got the chills . Woohoo . Very Sick .
Colin,
That was a fucking amazing line. It gave me the chills.
“I didn’t chose Dinamo, Dinamo chose me.”
@Cico you are a sad man and very delusional.
To Ziva , & all the other Haters of the Most Loved Team in Croatia ,& of the World Hajduk if they are so Bad being in 2nd Place what does that make the other 10 teams ?
Bandwagon???? Who would bandwagon an HNL team? I didn’t choose Dinamo. Dinamo chose me. 😉 Oh well. Sretan Bozic, everyone!
Dr. Colin , not in a million years will a Hajduk Fan jump on that Arrogant Dinamo – N.Y. Yankee buying Championships band wagon . Serce za Hajduka
Pray for Hajduk? You can pray to win the lotto too, but you’re still not going to be a millionaire. Wish on some shooting stars while your at it. The only way to be happy is to just join us. Cheer for Dinamo. We’ll tech you some songs we can sing 🙂
@Ivica – Mamic reads the site? Mission accomplished.
@Cico “when Hajduk is back on top” Ok champ, keep dreaming.
Armada878654335689976. Buon Natale. Hajduk zivi vjecno
Ante B , please speak Croatian
Ziva – you always bring out the good side of things then chop it down with the bad side of it. It’s like saying eat all you want but then your a fat ass, giving a guy a hug and then slapping him after, you do that about every topic i have seen. My question to you is why are you still alive if you weigh shit out like that? It makes you sound like you hate life and everything that comes with it. Or you don’t think that way but you like to show the fact that you think you know everything and that you got some type of inside connections. Everything you have said never impressed me, i knew all the shit you have said. Nothing was top secret that hasn’t been out in the croatian media. Any person that reads the news daily such as myself knows the shit you know. Its the other 90% of this website that you amaze cause they aren’t tuned in like the other 10% of us are. Either your bitter or just trying to impress.
Armada – It’s all good bro love your Rijeka i have nothing against that.
I to jasno, glasno i ponosno!

You’re right, I do. I love them.
To all my fellow hajdukovci. Tonight, as you enjoy a fine adult bevrage (or two), spare a thought for our jadan Hajduk. We all need to take a moment of silence and reflect on Hajduk. Say a prayer if you will, but take time to remember what a great club it once was. Another year has gone by and things remain the same.
Don’t do this because I ask you to do it, but reflect and remember for Hajduk’s sake.
@nije
“Some guy bashes your city bash his not Hajduk cause Hajduk isnt just Split its pretty much all of Dalmacija plenty of Zagreb and plenty of Slavonija.”
What do you think Rijeka is? Rijeka is Kvarner, Istra and parts of Lika. You know – the better part of Croatia 😉
but the dude is taking shots not only at my city, but my team as well
@nije bitno……..I disrespect hajduk???????? So, speaking the truth is a sign of disrespect. For all the crap mamic pulls, Hajduk has tried to pull even worse items over the years. And when I say Hajduk, I am talking about the people who have been in power at the club for the last 15 years. I can share stories about their idiocy and give you details that have never made it into the media, but I won’t because it will identify me.
I never stopped rooting for Hajduk. Far from it. I’ve accepted the fact they will continue to be garbage as long as they are run in this manner. Hajduk is something special for us dalmatinci – always has been and always will be – but that doesn’t mean they are free from criticism and critique.
I never told you not to root for Hajduk. In fact, I encourage you to continue rooting for Hajduk. I root for them. Quite honestly, when I see hajduk on the field I do feel pity over the entire situation.
And you are wrong in what I said about Gotovina. I celebrated his release as did every other non self-hating Hrvat. I never said Gotovina was a bad army officer. He was great and his actions on the field we recognized by numerous former American officers. Now, what I can do is seperate myself from the patriotic feelings and realize that many of our generals were crooks after the war. Anyone who follows the news in Cro can see that. I know what Gotovina did before the war, I have seen what other generals did after the war and because of that I can connect the dots. Personally, I would love to know where the money came from for Gotovina’s nice, new villa. It’s an issue that is not worth pursuing because Gotovina is gold for the next year or so in Cro. So, nobody will touch that topic.
@Cico……..when hajduk comes back up????? When will that be??? In 10 years?? Buddy, I’ll be sitting in the stands when that happens. It may be a long wait, but I’ll be there.
Ante B sounds like he likes young men
i know razumija san te prvi put stari.
Ma neeeeee, nisi njega drka nego ovu cilu situaciju.
Je drka san ga do kraja i svrsija san.
Take it with a grain of salt though….
Stari,
Ali ga ti isto drkas do kraja. You are not realizing the humor in every line and taking it with a grain of salt. Self appointed, Sally Struthers, etc. That’s his shtick, his material. Even I know he’s not being serious. As Keyshawn and Coach Ditka would say COME ON MAN
You guys really miss the point. Ziva calls it the way it is. He is correct, Hajduk is in big trouble both on and off the field yet we have fans who refuse to see that. The fans should be revolting instead you got these idiots thinking the future is so bright.
Nothing Ziva has said makes him anti Hajduk or even anti Croatian. He calls it the way it is. Accept it.
Mama kupi me bonbon
Kiki Riki
Ante you can yell and talk shit during a game and say they played like crap and love them, i agree with you on that. But a person that says hes the biggest fan of a club would never say all of this
“as the self-annointed king of Hajduk fans, the homer element out there needs to face the facts and realize this Hajduk is not the Hajduk your old man grew up rooting for. The best term to describe our current Hajduk is “jadni hajduk.” You know the feeling of pity you get when you pass by a homeless person or see images of starving children in Africa……well, that is Hajduk now. Pity!!!! Once a great club, but now they are the homeless and starving children of European soccer…….I’m thinking of creating a commercial featuring Sally Struthers where she begs and pleads for funds so we can deliver it to Hajduk”
Yes they are not great like they use to be i have no problem with that. My problem is him calling fans out like they are hommers cause they still root for their team as they are the best. So whats wrong with that? Then he continues on degrading hajduk as jadni homeless or whatever. Fuck that! hes not no fucking fan i dont care what you or he says. only thing he has in common with Hajduk is the K in Kurac od Tovara! Knock the people that run it but when you start knocking the team and the fans that love that team then we’ve got a problem and I’ll call out names.
Opet , now i have Ante B calling me names WTF ? What’s the B stand for Budala ? All you dinamo fans please take Ziva . Please . Ziva don’t come back when Hajduk is back on top . Tell em Jarac, & Nije Bitno .
One season off!! The horror!!!
@Colin O’Haravić
Dinamo terminated Alispahic’s contract because of my post where I accused him of influencing Halilovic.
Proof that Mamic reads CroatianSports.com!
Hrvatska!!!
@Ante B
in 2005/06, Dinamo finished first.
It was in 2004/05 that Dinamo finished seventh.
You’re not a true BBB!
To my first point, I used to always write everything out.
What I’m saying is that they are unintentionally doing my work for me. Back when I started on here, I did all of that. Ante, Denis and the rest of the old schoolers will tell you that. It’s just nice not having to be the only one anymore. Plus even before the Internet, I did the same in Nor and So Cal.
And yes, I would be the same Ante B if Dinamo finished first second or seventh place (remember 2005/2006?). I was the loudest. I’d still back my club but I wouldn’t be blind of its blatant faults and call them out. I’d call them out and still sing Volim te Dinamo at the top of my lungs.
What is it specially in this thread that is not true? Is Hajduk not in debt? Does Hajduk have anything else on its side today besides Torcida and history? Is it terribly managed? Is Ziva telling you not to scream bili su bili? Or is he simply replying to idiots like Cico and Jarac?
Ziva – it looks like u only like teams when they are on top and support them when they are on top. Just cause hajduk is 2,3 or 4th on the list now n days u talk shit on them? or is it the people that run the club and steel from it that you talk shit about? Cause i never see you mention any other name or names other than Hajduk maybe Kerum a couple of times. It’s not the teams fault they are corrupted and because it is u stop rooting for them and start saying they are ridiculous? Politically ur Gotovina statement was bullshit Dr. Prle called you out on it and you didn’t respond. The man gets freedom i never saw a congrats to him or anything but a slap in the face with maybe steeling during the war. Its like you dont like anybody having their 5 minutes of glory. Your bitter ass has to try and bring them down.
Armada that hardware is chump change. Also I mentioned in my post that the hajduk fans say retarded shit on this site too. Bottom line is, there are no games coming up and no need to mention clubs. Some guy bashes your city bash his not Hajduk cause Hajduk isnt just Split its pretty much all of Dalmacija plenty of Zagreb and plenty of Slavonija.
Ante, and they say dalmatinci are lazy, looks like purgeri are too since u like the other guys doing ur work for u. Its obvious ur dislike for hajduk is cooling off if u like to sit back and let others do it for you. You love dinamo even though dinamo is corrupt u dont talk shit on dinamo but u talk shit on mamic. This is the differance between u and Ziva. When Dinamo was in second or below second place back in the day did you disrespect them with pathetic comments like Ziva does? or did you love them and sing, I u nebo s njim. I u pakao Bad Blue Boys i Dinamo?
haha peder
And Jarac, that would be the most action you’ve seen on years. Stand in line lover.
@Nije
Bravo nije, ziva is full of shit. Him and ante B can go give eachother ZJs.
Ziva,
Getting rid of 100,000 non Zagrepcani in Zagreb would be an early Christmas gift or just wishful thinking. When I say getting rid of, it’s naturally with a magic wand and not forceful evacuation or anything violent.
Nije Bitno,
I’ve been on this site since 2009/2010 and Ziva has been the one guy who seems to brought up in the same way as I have but with a different team. He brings something to the table that neither you, me or the majority of posters rarely offer: objectivity. We’ve been on the same page about politics and sports for at least two years now.
News flash: we don’t agree on everything. And when we don’t, which is rare, I actually tell him. There’s respect there
Now, the second part of your post is a bunch of statements. Yes, I give shit to Hajduk fans and for the majority, it’s a response to them attacking my team. Will I talk shit? Yes. Do I rub in a Dinamo victory over Hajduk? Yes. Blame Hajduk, not me. What is so funny about Ziva is that he objectively tells people about Hajduk who don’t want to accept it. A hajdukovac telling a group of hajdukovci off is pure comedy and he basically does my work for me.
In regards to Rijeka, whether you like it or not, the team and its fans have only been going in one direction: up. It pains me to say that but it’s true. Also being told your name is Rejka makes me want to shove a Christmas tree up someone’s ass. Imagine an actual Rijeka fan. In addition to Ziva, Armada also talks shit about Hajduk which again does my work for me. It’s nice to see non Dinamo fans talk shit about Hajduk once in a whole because I’ve been trying to set California Hrvati straight for years.
Nije Bitno , You are right on . It’s about time somebody told them what the score is . OPET Armada 87420642 Pizda . You just can’t stop calling me names . WTF is wrong with you ?
@nije bitno……serem po hajduk jer to zasluzuju………..what did I say that was wrong??? And I’ve actually sat in sjever countless of times when I was younger. Now, I prefer to sit in the middle away from those who fail to shower on a consistent basis.
You may not like what I said because you are blinded and can’t see things clearly. But, fear not my friend, I am here to guide you, to inform you.
The club is in debt and does not know how to manage itself. I can go on, but that pretty much sums it up. Club has no money and no leadership and no strategic plan. So, what am I missing here? And now I read they are bringing in 5th-tier talent from Brazil.
Nobody is a bigger hajdukovac than me, but there is nothing to be excited about with the way the club has been run and continues to be run. The best thing would be for it to fall into bankruptcy and then fall into the 4th division and start over. 2nd place in the HNL or best team in the Zupanska Liga = isti kurac.
also…..you wrote…… “volis Hrvatsku ali seres po njoj idi u picku materinu jedi govna debilu jedan”……….what on earth are you referring to? I assume its just another case of you being blinded by whatever it is that you believe in and not thinking logicially. That’s Ok, I’m here to help you understand. The hardest thing for many people is coming to the realization they are wrong about something.
To clarify – I see Hajduk as a huge rival and of course, the shit talking between Rijeka and Hajduk fans will never ever stop, just like the shit talking between Hajduk and Dinamo will never stop.
However, I can see past my occasional hatred of Hajduk and realize that they are one of the best teams in not only Croatia but the entire Balkan region and have a long and distinguished history. For those that remember, I rooted hard for Hajduk in Europe, especially when they played Inter. But hey, come Jadranski derbi – the shit talking will flow lol
@nije
I might throw a Hajduk related barb here and there, for shits and giggles, but when some moron (Sime/Cico/wwhatever other names) starts taking shots at my city and team and calling me Italian, then that opens the door for me to roast the previously mentioned moron and make Tito/old logo cracks.
urokana krava? lol dude, we’re not talking about a small potatoes team here like Zadar or Cibalia. Rijeka (along with Osijek) is the traditional 3rd best team. We have 4 cups (hardware), we actually finished higher than Dinamo and Hajduk in the Yugo league for a good chunk of the 80’s, we’ve produced countless NT players (Balaban, Knezevic, Mladenovic, etc.) and we make it to Europe on a pretty consistent basis. While it doesn’t compare to Dinamo or Hajduk’s resume, it’s nothing to sneeze at either. Plus not to mention, some of the best fans in Croatia.
Which brings me to you Ante you talk shit to these hajduk fans cause they love their club but as soon as someone talks shit on dinamo, oci bi mu iskopa! Same goes for all the hajduk fans that say stupid shit about dynamo! Most of the time u guys say some retarded ass shit ! Same love different teams folks. We all cant love dinamo and we all cant love hajduk. And so fucken what if Hajduk was good in one era and dinamo is good in another! and rijeka was um lets see…… NEVER! Rijeka is like the urokana krava of the league Armada. Thats cool you love your team and all. Love it but don’t talk shit when there’s no shit to be talked from where you stand. Bring home some hardware and then talk.
@Komiza and Sime, yeah, Hajduk rules. Rules what?
Now, if dinamo could only empty out about 100,000 more bosnians in and around Zagreb. I still think Halilovic will follow his roots and play for BiH.
Dinamo just terminated Alispahic’s contract. Looks like they didin’t want a Bosnian influencing Halilovic anymore. He just signed with Rijeka.
Boys let’s all calm down and be good to one another. It is the holidays. Peace, love & happiness to all. May you all have a beautiful holiday with your family and friends. Sretan Božić i Nova Godina ! Bog,Hrvati,Hajduk,i L.A. Galaxy Champions !!!
Hajduk RULES …. End of story ……
@Armada yes the post was magical as Ante B. pointed out.
Cico, you can’t be from Split, you are an idiot and embarrassment. You put down fellow Croats for supporting a rival team instead of Hajduk. Who cares? You are so narrow minded. Hajduk has won nothing in the last ten years. Like anonymous said you are a dipshit and you need to get laid.
Split , please tell me your not from Split , the most Beautiful City in Croatia . People from our City are smart , not Dumb asses like you . Please, Please .
@Cico “the team that is so arrogant it is insane” The only person insane here is you. Leave Ziva, Armada and Ante B. alone. You could learn something from them. You dipshit.
@Split , Please change your Name . We don’t need anymore self-hating Hajduk Fans like Ziva . Armada879432345 don’t think a complement from Ante B is worth anything , come on he’s a Dinamo fan , the team that is so arrogant it is insane .
@Armada you have seen this video before? http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F%3Fgl%3DAR%26hl%3Des-419&hl=es-419&gl=ES#/watch?v=508B3i_Q6GU
Armada,
Though we may differ in upbringing and politics, that post was magical. Cestitam
Ziva,
You’re still the wind beneath my wings. Sretan Bozic tebi i tvojima! Spremni brate
@Cico
Are you for real? We are talking about Hajduk, no champions league, no europa league. Come on give it a rest.
@Cico you really need a life, get a girl, you need to get fucked. You loser. Sorry I meant dipshit like your team Hajduk.
Man Croatia is so messed up in every aspect from the people and on, besides soccer let me just vent on Handball our Gobac the handball poor mans mamic calls the shots and all of his Croatia Zagreb player have to play on NT, it pisses me off that they consider 30 years old as too old mother fu… they ruine rukomet for me guys like Metlicic Sulic Spoljaric Dominikovic Sprem Dzomba Valcic Zrnic and now Balic all kicked in the ass club man all those guys can still play shame Gobac Mamic Suker Stop these hercegovian scum
@Croatian Sports Nation
Sretan Bozic i ugodni bozicni blagdani!
Hey Anonymous , look who is calling who a dipshit , a whorthless piece of Govno that can’t even think of a Name to post . As for that other ass wipe Armada 87425065216 , Stop . Your rijeka team can’t even shine Hajduks shoes . Go eat some Pizza ,& Pasta . Damn Italiano
There are more trophies in my fortified basement in the last 15 years than trophies won by Hajduk.
A sappy sad song and commercial by Sarah mclaughlin might help bring in those dollars! Just replace the sad beaten puppies with Andrijasevic and and Caktas, and you’d really have something there.
Armada, I’ll take it from here…..
as the self-annointed king of Hajduk fans, the homer element out there needs to face the facts and realize this Hajduk is not the Hajduk your old man grew up rooting for. The best term to describe our current Hajduk is “jadni hajduk.” You know the feeling of pity you get when you pass by a homeless person or see images of starving children in Africa……well, that is Hajduk now. Pity!!!! Once a great club, but now they are the homeless and starving children of European soccer…….I’m thinking of creating a commercial featuring Sally Struthers where she begs and pleads for funds so we can deliver it to Hajduk.
Rijeka won 4 cups in their history, which doesn’t mean shit either. Fact of the matter is Dinamo have utterly dominated Croatia for more than a decade. Sad, but true. Some of these delusional Hajduk fans need to put the kool-aid down and look at the facts.
@ GoldenChild
Thanks. This is just each player’s market value. I don’t think this site shows what each player’s annual salary is.
Either way, there is no way they have a payroll anywhere near $38M (be it annual or total contract value).
@marko
what has Rijeka done? absolutely nothing
but some of these Hajduk fans need to take off the homer glasses and stop talking about Hajduk like it’s a top tier European team. Congrats – they won some Yugo cups/championships and they won a few Prva Liga titles, like I said before – WHOOPTY FUCKIN DOO
Transfer iz snova: Vatreni odlazi u Chelsea?
Prema pisanju engleskog tabloida Metroa, europski prvak Chelsea razmatra mogućnost dovođenja hrvatskog reprezentativnog braniča Dejana Lovrena
http://is.gd/oiWUyf
What has rijeka done in the past 15 years? And Hajduk is still above them in the league, so suck some italian cock
@ARMADA87
Great post!!!!!!!
@Armada87 well done, thank you for telling this Cico what a dipshit he is. The man is delusional.
@ Cico
Listen dipshit, I still don’t get the whole Italian thing. Like I get it, we use to be an Italian city, whoopty fuckin doo. The city is overwhelmingly (90%+) Croatian with a team that has been CROATIAN since 1946. And as your fellow Hajdukovac stated above – what have Hajduk done in the last 15 years? Nothing.
You wanna talk about great history, you say?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9d/Hajduk_logo.png
Great logo. Hajduk might have more titles and accolade, but NK Rijeka (not US Fiumana) was always a CROATIAN team and never “Tito’s Team” – remember that.
@Ivica
You can get a full breakdown of any team on here.
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/gnk-dinamo-zagreb/startseite/verein_419.html
@Cico…….why you ripping on someone for cheering their favorite club? I, as you, am a Hajduk fan. But, the only thing Hajduk has left is its history, because its performance over the last 15 years has been comical and tragic.
@Ante B…..thank your sir. Sretan i blagoslovljen Bozic.
Atta boy Cico,give it to the italian boy,lol
@Cico
Wow… LOL!
Armada875392036 I was tring to give your dumb ass Italian team some credit , but i see it’s no use with Idiot fans like you . Your Reijka , or Rijeka how ever you spell it , will never be as good as Hajduk or will they ever match the Great History that they have , you Pizda .
Where is this $38M figure coming from?
Do you mean to tell me that Dinamo pays $38M for this roster of children?
This can’t possibly be a PER YEAR value. This is the total value of all their contracts (with all years combined), correct?
I want to see a detailed breakdown of this.
@ Anonymous
I was only measuring the players performance; on how much they got out of them in terms of money (instead of group stage points), compared to what they pay them.
This was not an overall Profit and Loss analysis. Where you add up ALL the team’s revenues and deduct ALL the expenses.
@ Cico
It’s RIJEKA bro, not rejka – you know, the team that has it’s act together, the team that pays its players and the team that will likely finish above your mighty Hajduk when it’s all said and done at the end of this year
budala…
@ croatia vs antwerp. if you pay 38mm for your team and you make 12mm in champions league, you dont return 32% . you lose 26mm a year
Cico talking to himself. What a clown
@ The Golden Child
Thank You for those stats. Here’s more.
Dinamo earned 9.1m Euros in the group phase. This consists of 8.6m for entry and 500k for the draw.
In dollars this is $12m. So taking into consideration their contracts of $38m, that’s a return of 32% (12/38 = 32%). That’s pretty sick!! Comparing Dinamo’s return ratio to other clubs in the CL, and you will see they achieved so much with so little. They are the envy of any business manager 🙂
To answer’s Ante’s question, YES Dinamo should aim for the CL every year as it brings badly needed funds to the club. Hey maybe they will get 2 pts next time around.
too bad hajduk wont make the chmp league anytime soon
@Cico. I can not disagree with you . Hajduk did win a game against the Italian team Inter .
Nice stats GoldenChild. I feel a little better now.
Ante B, that was bloody beautiful. 🙂
Also, this story doesn’t indicate that the 1 and only goal scored for Dinamo at least gave us our first point.
Dalmatian propaganda dammit!
Too Bad Rejka or Hajduk isn’t there . At least they would do a better job then this arrogant Dinamo team . Very disturbing .
@Mr Black
Dinamo Contract worth: (38m) 1 point
Group:
PSG ($270m) 15 points
FC Porto ($155m) 13 points
Dynamo Kyiv ($115m) 5 points
Cluj (40.5m) 10 points.
Group:
Man United ($390m) 12 points, Galatassary($120) 10 points, and Braga ($71m) 1 point
Dinamo is simply not rich enough to actually do something in the Champions League. If they have a good player, like Badelj for example, he will leave immediately for a better team and a better league. Those who stay playing in Croatia are probably not good enough (anymore) to play in a decent league. So lets face it, Dinamo will never do something in the Champions League but they still should try to get there. With the money they gain in the Champions League(if Mamic don’t steal too much), they can buy players from other Croatian clubs and bring some money in the Croatian football. And the Europa League is bulshit. Decent team don’t even play their best players in the Europa League. So Dinamo should continue to aim for the Champions League.
I haven’t seen Ziva posting in a while so hopefully he’s not on a sabbatical but if he is, I dedicate this for him from Ante B:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RYQ5kBotD60
Dinamo succccccccccccccks
Well, they just fix/throw the match. They’ve done it before…
That is true, I see what you are saying. However, in that escenario, how would you aim to Europa League? I mean, if you get draw with weak teams you are most likely going to qualify. I think the idea is for Dinamo to start signing decent players. A team in Champions or Europa L., with no decent forwards, will probably do the same way DZ did.
@ Ivo M,
Not exactly. Dinamo can still win the HNL, make it to the Champions League playoff round and tank those 2 games. That would put them in the Europa League group stage. This past season Dinamo defeated Maribor over two legs in the playoff round.
Dinamo went to CL while Maribor took off for Europa…that’s what I was saying.
Re: Platini
That’s all speculation right now. I’m working with what we have right now.
Ante, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that DZ should be aiming to play the Europa League directly and not through the a 3rd place in the Champions League group stage, right? Well, the only way they could aim for that is by not winning the Prva Liga, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
There’s also Platini. He wants to merge both tournaments in one big Champions. If that happens, DZ has a chance to get some points. Dinamo has indeed better chances to get points in Europa than in Champions but it will still be a poor performance. They might do better in Europa, but only slightly better.
Either way, the real problem is the poor competitive level in the domestic league. I really hope that the Rijeka experiment works. It will take some years though.
Cheers!
