Marin Čilić defeated world #2 and 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer in straight sets Saturday 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 evening to lay in his very first Grand Slam final. With an extremely pro-Federer crowd in New York City, Čilić kept his cool and played his game. On Monday, he will face Kei Nishikori, who stunned Novak Djoković in the other semifinal.
——————————————
Marin Čilić takes on world #2 Roger Federer Saturday afternoon in the biggest match of his career as the two meet in the U.S. Open semifinals. This will mark the farthest Čilić has ever been in a major event, matching his semifinal Aussie Open run in 2010.
If the Croatian #1 is ever to win a Grand Slam event, this will be his best chance. Čilić disposed of Tomas Berdych in straight sets during his quarterfinal match while Federer had to come back from the dead, taking all three final sets against Gael Monfils to set up his semifinal date. Čilić is aiming for his first Grand Slam silverware while Federer is looking to grab his 18th major trophy.
Croatian turn-out for Marin at Flushing Meadows will be low… If I lived close by I would try and make it but being 3 hours north, it’s a no-go for me.
RE: Diehl’s case at Scorpio’s during EURO 2012
I was there, but left shortly before Diehl left. From ‘inside sources’ that were there, David had some buds there but was very adamant about getting himself home and being able to drive himself. I mean what person, hrvat or non-hrvat is going to tell a 350 lb NFL o-lineman he can’t do something?!
C’mon Cilic! Beating Nishikori on Monday will count as revenge for that fucking Japanese referee who fucked us against Brazil.
Ok,Ok,Ante is posting too heavily and will give it a rest.Ante is the bigger man and role model for young Ziva and wanted to point out a innocent mistake.The dogs butthole was supposed to be just that and not making any other reference other than the direct link to young Ziva.I noticed something else in there afterward which was not Antes intent.Gots to go now,ante is busy and needs to stop rushing things!

Of course,there is the time young Ziva had quite the mishap one Friday night down in the basement.His sarma dinner that night had given him some wind issues.His similarly dressed friends found it hilarious!

Dont know what the big mystery is,here is a image from Zivas basement.Bad things happen down there.Poor Bobo,the trained basement monkey.I will put nothing of him up.The images are quite disturbing.

Sinko,in that case you may as well put this on the back of your jersey.Same dif.
@Horvat…….what if I wear a jersey with “Istina” on the back of it???
Wow. Portugal lost to Albania in Lisbon just now.
That group us gonna be messy.
Maybe Ziva will agree to shave his half grey chetnik beard.
I have a lead on Ziva Istina…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dozAOzXeOXQ
.
All I want from Ziva is a selfie and maybe a picture of his famous basement..
Ziva is right, the upper bowl sucks. However, if you get a nice group of Croats together, you can make some noise.
I was sitting upstairs for the 2011 Nadal-Djokovic final. I think I paid $125 to sit upstairs. Obviously, I left before the match was over as I didn’t want to see the celebration. Plenty of Serbs in the stands.
Shit, I can’t get a viewing party here in LA as people don’t want to take a 1/2 day.
Come on New Yorkers dont let me down 🙂
Yes, Melbourne would be on fire if Cilic made the final.
@Horvat,
hahahaha. Good stuff.
I meant to say “his jersey”.
A grown man being afraid to reveal his own name is worse than a grown man wearing someone else’s name on the back of their jersey.
Being afraid to reveal your name is not the “za dom spremni” way.
Did I say that? I may have, but I am unsure. I say a lot of things.
Listen, I hope Doper Cilic wins. I pray that he wins. Nothing better than seeing successful hrvati. But, I’l be honest. I never though he had the game to win a Grand Slam. At best I thought he could be a consistent top 10 player who every now and then may make a trip to the semis of a Grand Slam. Depending on how I do on the football games today, I plan to bet heavy on Doper Cilic tomorrow.
And, sure I’ll do it. I’ll do it when all the others live up to their proclamations they have said on this site as well.
Hey Ziva. Are you going to reveal your identity (like you said you would) if Cilic wins?
🙂
I’m sure some Internet psychos will be checking this site every day for this.
Didn’t someone on here try looking for you once?
By the way, if Doper Cilic can do it on Monday, where would a victory rank in Croatian sports? Would it be in the top 10????
It would have to. While it doesn’t go on the level of Goran’s win at Winmbledon and then the celebration back home, it would have to be above Iva Majoli’s (by the way, she is a bad businesswomen) French Open title.
It is appropriate to chat “za dom……spremni” all the time. As I have said and demonstrated, every day is a “za dom….spremni” day in the fortified compound of the Ziva Istina estate. The lesson to be learned is from Suspension Joey and not do it individually and to take it away from the overall team celebration. That will have your teammates tune you out.
Knowing the hrvati in NY as I do, I am only expecting a minor showing from them. You may be able to hear the occasional hrvat in the crowd yelling something in butchered diaspora croatian, but that is it. And forget the excuse ticket prices will be too high. It is a buyers market. The public was expecting a Federer-Djokovic final. Tickets are going down in price on the secondary market. Now, to be fair, unless you have a ticket in the lower bowl, no need to get a ticket in that upper bowl at Arthur Ashe stadium. Those seats in the upper bowl are garbage. Even the HD screen at the top doesn’t make it for it. But, don’t get your hopes up from the NY hrvati.
Remember, these are the same diaspora hrvati who watched “one of their own” (Dave Diehl) get drunk and did not nothing to stop him from getting a DUI. True hrvati would have had his back and watched out for him because he did have some sort of celebrity status in NY. They failed that test. I expect them to get a partial passing grade tomorrow.
I would love to go,but unfortunately I don’t get sick or personal days and Cilic’ winnings don’t feed my children.
Is it appropriate to chant “Za dom spremni!” at a tennis match?
Rob is correct – aussies are simply `better’ than yanks
😛
Let see what you guys in America can do to support one of our own.
When anything Croatian happens in Australia we back them even if they are unlikely to win. We always show up in number. Make us proud.
Its not too late to jump on the bandwagon. Shit, we can’t get Croatians in San Pedro to cross a bridge to get a cup of coffee.
NY Croat, You have 24 hours to get your boys(and girls) together. Don’t let the dijaspora down!
New York Croatians you better get your asses down to the match on Monday. No excuses. The Japanese tourists will pick up most of the tickets. However, the rest should be available at a discount.
@Dinko Dog,
Us Cali Croats are not much better. We had to pull teeth to get a half dozen croats to watch Ljubicic win Indian Wells.

At the same time, Dennis Fistonich and I brought atmosphere that was never seen before at Indian Wells. A few people wanted to take pictures with us after the semi and final match. Is that “jocksniffing” or worse? fansniffing?
@Dinko Pas
Wow you got me lol.
More people want to see the final, rather than some bullshit early games? I would have never thought. People have lives they can’t take off work to watch 6 tennis games in 2 weeks. Not to mention it isn’t cheap.
Where are you from anyone my dijaspora friend? You seem like your from Cleveland.
@NY Croat
where were they the previous 6 rounds or so? Oh on the bandwagon now? Only Croatian when we’re winning.
Truth hurts
@Miško
Well, Japan is a big country with a big market, and Nishikori is the first Japanese player to ever be ranked in the top-10 (let alone actually making it to a Grand Slam final).
Cilic has been around longer, and despite Croatia being a small nation, that novelty wore off after Croatia has won big in multiple sports (including tennis with Ivanisevic winning Wimbledon and Olympic silver, Ancic/Ljubicic/Karlovic making deep runs in their careers as well as some Olympic medals themselves, and last but not least, Croatia winning the Davis Cup in ’05).
Japan has done nothing of the sort. This would be their first ever tennis victory.
After watching this whole deal the zionist media is definitely pushing the Asian.
I expect the crowd to be behind the Asian on Monday.
.
Anybody have a link to the entire Hrvatska-Cipra game? Only got to see the first 30 min.
Dinko Dog i don’t think your right. and i’m guessing your not from the NY/NJ/CT region… Hrvati will show.
Make it to the final, and the hrvati will come.
Cant wait for the Hrvatski Dijaspora vs the Japanese Tourists battle in the stands.
Budi Ponosan!
Just got home and I Tivoed it.
Damn the crowd were all Federer jock sniffers, was Ziva in the crowd?
Congratulations to Cilic, well done.
.
cunts
@ Iggy
Yep, many audience members were Federer fan-girls. I remember that when Cilic was about to be broken (0-1 in the third set [?]), an inaccurate first serve from Cilic was met with loud cheering from the crowd. Really annoying.
I personally didn’t hear the “double fault,” but I saw several comments on that. It was probably true.
ididnt see the game – terrible time for an aussie
anyone can confirm this:
“We were witness of most disgusting crowd in Tennis so far… 95% people were cherring for Roger every single point, even when Čilić misses his 1st serve.. One moron even yelled “double fault” in 3rd set before he served..
Terrible desperate fans”
Marin je super.
So if Marin wins…Ziva reveals his identity? Is that what I read in a post the other day…don’t do it Ziva…stay fortified in basement in front of your iPad
@NY Croat.
You get a lot more ‘ US Hrvati’ going to watch a federer vs Djokovic final than Čiĺić, majority don’t even know who he is.
MARIN DE MANNNNNNNNN
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
YOSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Svi na Arthur Ashe!
Damn as much as I can be a homer I’m surprised….It’ll be pretty awesome though if Cilic wins it.
I would love to be in Hercegovina right now celebrating at cafe……..well, in one of those cafés that doesn’t play serbo music.
The pride of Medugorje!
Unbelievable. Go for the Grand Slam, Cilic!!!
congrats to Marin, granted its a federer on the decline which you can argue is still a tougher prospect than much of the draw, but a win is a win and maybe he can snag himself a grand slam.
Well done…
This is over. Can you imagine the CBS execs when they realize it will be a Doper Cilic – Japaneseman final???
Get those selfies ready Ziva! 🙂
C’mon Cilic!!! ONE MORE
I said it a few days this is not the same Federer as 2008. Much tougher to recover from matches at age 33 than 26. That said, he is still the favorite.
But, this is a great start for Doper Cilic.
GREAT START
^ ^
Call it what you will, but that would be great!
That Jap looks scarier to me than Federer
Federer looks ripe for the picking!
This fix is in. Novak out. Doper Cilic upsets Federer and wins the Open!!
Djokovic out
The NY heat making Djokovic look sluggish.
Hopefully Doper Cilic is on all his meds going against Federer and the heat/humidity
Hey Sinko,Cilic said he has a new name for you,”Dopey Istina”He also said something along the lines of”Pusi moj …..”
