It was a defensive blunder that will end up costing PSV Eindhoven Champions League football this season but you have to give credit to Antonio Čolak and Rangers for pressuring the defense on the game’s lone goal. Čolak has been scoring left and right in the young season for new club Rangers, and although this was not the prettiest of goals, he was in the right place at the right time. With the 1st leg ending 2-2 in Scotland last week, Čolak scored the lone goal of the match in a 1-0 victory that will send Rangers to the Champions League group stage; where they will join hated rivals Celtic.
Čolak has been on fire, scoring four goals in fours matches prior to this match. Let’s see what he can do in CL group stage two months before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar. Could he make the bench or even the starting XI for Croatia if his form stays hot?
What’s most impressive for colak is that he put rangers through to the champions league for the first time in 12 years
Colak is in good form at the moment and going to Rangers was a good move for his career. He is quicker, stronger and his movement off the ball has also improved. This is where he has the advantage over Petkovic and Livaja.
It has to be said that Petkovic had an excellent match and lasted 120 minutes.
Hopefully he will continue to improve in the coming weeks. As far as Livakovic is concerned, yes he could have done better with that goal. In my opinion he should have come out towards the attacking player to narrow the angle. However, the main blame for that goal is poor defence, primarily Peric and to a lesser extent Ademi.
I think his form so far is great, and to be honest he is scoring against tough opponents so he may be a viable option. Livaja, and despite his goal Petkovic, for me are not great options they are not consistent at this stage, Livaja has dropped off in the last few games and I think hasn’t scored a goal in 4 to 5 games now which is quite bad.
Yes the bicycle kick was nice, but chances are that Petkovic is going to drop off in form and he hasn’t really been doing great in the league.
I personally think that Drmic’s goal took way more vision and skill, and that he is reason that they won this match and series. It’s too bad he cannot play for Croatia we could have used him, I like his skill on the ball.
As far as the second from the other team, I think you could look at it both ways. But Livakovic could have saved that, technical the player did psyche him out, but he wasn’t great on other ways and still doesn’t seem comfortable with the ball at his feet.
