Croatia has not had a striker this consistent in quite some time. With his goal in Champions League qualifying Tuesday night at Ibrox, 29 year-old Antonio Čolak, has now scored in four straight matches.
I’m not calling the guy a world beater or anything like that, I’m simply saying, “let’s keep our eyes on Čolak this season.” Especially with the #9 position a weak spot for the Vatreni right now. Čolak has only been capped by Croatia three times as he was still playing in the HNL three seasons ago.
Čolak plays in an extremely mediocre Scottish league. The only game you should care about in Scotland is when Rangers play Celtic in the Old Firm Derby. So scoring goals versus Kilmarnock and St. Johnstone should not turn any heads this week. However, during his 4-game scoring streak, Čolak scored the aggregate-tying goal against Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in Champions League qualifying last week before banging in the equalizer against PSV Eindhoven Tuesday night in the 1st Leg of the UCL Playoff Round. The match ended 2-2. Winner goes to Champions League. Loser to Europa.
Let’s keep our eyes on Čolak to see what else he does in the next three months. A 4-goal scoring streak to start the season should have our attention.
[…] has been on fire, scoring four goals in fours matches prior to this match. Let’s see what he can do in CL group stage two months before the World Cup kicks off in […]
These are great starts but we need to see mid season what happens to the likes of Ljubicic, Colak, and Baturina… Not trying to take away from what they are doing but we have to see 5 to 10 games in how that consistency set in. By October when the call ups are close, I think by then we should have a better idea of how these guys are actually doing. That includes what some are saying about players like Rebic who has been scoring goals here, although I don’t quite favour him.
Borna Coric ranking has dropped to 152
Ante Coric career has gone down to drain
It seems stanisic is seeking for loan move to epl
Stanisic doesn’t want to leave Bayern and challenge for his spot, what a smotan Stanisic is.
Coric topping Nadal at the moment: 7-6, 3-3.
We in deep trouble up top. No sugar coating this, we really don’t have anyone dangerous up top. Yikes
It’s old news. We have known this for some time that we don’t have a solid front man if not for Perisic. He is the only one who is consistently scoring goals for us. Without him we are lost in that department. It’s hopeful that some of these players can fill the gap, I was favouring Livaja earlier but he has struggled to score in the Conference League which is not promising on his part, but some people have said that he had played well in both games against Vitoria.
Ljubicic, Sucic, Colak, Musa, Budimir and the like we have to see a by October how these guys are doing.
Personally I think our bigger issue is goaltending, because if we don’t have a solid striker up front we need someone who is more than dependable in net. The problem for us is that it over-complicates things when you have both issues combined which we have unfortunately.
I think Still we can find a way to score by committee
And still I can’t find too much at fault for anything ivusic has done at national level
He also managed to beat France, yes it’s by committee but it’s a huge confidence boost
I agree Dannyj, I’m okay with that idea but you need a solid goaltender to pull that off. In the Donnarumma, Courtois sense type goalie.
“Old firm,” is dead.
Rangers and their Catholic hating selves went into liquidation.
The Glasgow derby exists for Celtic FC to give out a lesson on who runs Glasgow.
As per Čolak, we definitely open auditioning for a #9.
Not sure how many levels AC Milan are above Rangers, but Rebić needs a write up if he continues lay the wood.
I think rebic gets quite a bit of attention here for not being an active participant on the repka
I would love for him to make amends but can you really see that happening???
For sure rebic wants to come to the party but I don’t see him apologizing
Sure hope I’m wrong. He has his place as long as he doesn’t think he is better then the team
I get he probably hates dalic, most of us can get on the letting dalic go train but it’s not gonna happen, he is the coach. Respect the team
Let’s see what the next couple months brings
I would think by September games it would have to be settled to reintegrate him back into it
Dalic is not at fault for everything. Rebic was a complete dumbass in the Euro and should be mad at only himself right now. That said, if he continues to improve in form, and fixes his possession and ball control skills, then I would say let him get the call up. However, these two skills mentioned need to be worked on and improved upon in order for him to get a call up, I could care less about the apology.
Even in these last couple of games he created issues for Milan, if you read the reviews. That is his main problem, I am not suggesting he can’t score, but when your actions lead to the opposing team getting goals, and again this happens frequently for Rebic, then the goals you score cancel themselves out and I could care less if you score at that point. This is how I view Rebic, and again I routed for him for two straight years watching him in Serie A, to try to see improvement. To be honest this why he has lost a fan in me, and it is not just the Euro, it is his piss poor attitude that I cannot stand. He is not a Ronaldo or Messi, not that it’s acceptable in their case, but with the consistency of the two mentioned I can understand it in their case. I don’t understand it at all with Rebic, he is not anywhere near that level as a goal scorer so he needs to smarten up and tighten his game. That is all there is to it. Shit up and play in his case.
Shut up and play I mean.
Some players are like grumpy thoroughbred horses…full of testosterone and hyper, hard to control. In the Rebic situation I felt he was already frustrated with his poor play and then it got more complicated with the lineups and some interesting player choices Dalic made. Let’s not forget that right after the World Cup, Dalic sat down with some of the veteran players and they aired out their grievances…Modric included. Dalic promised to not give anymore “free passes” to any players based on their past and that he’d only select those that are playing at their club!
Rebic made a mistake and Dalic called him out in it so my impression was that incident made Rebic go squirrelly and he lashed out at him for some of his poor decisions and did it publicly.
Our team has two very serious holes:
1) goaltender
2) striker
We keep pretending we know the answer by saying Livakovic doesn’t deserve to start (I have no issues with someone else starting) but truly, nobody has stepped up. At this point I’d probably go with Kalinic but who knows when he will crumble next?
Next is striker. Not only do we struggle at striker but we are really accommodating Kramaric and Vlasic because they both can’t play anywhere except for the false 9, in behind the striker…at least not in the wing with us!
I’m not sold on Budimir, I’m not sold on Colak, I’m not sold on Musa, nor Simic…so we are an incomplete team and will be at this World Cup. We need a plan for secondary scoring unless if miraculously someone gets super hot (I doubt it).
Rebic “should” reach out and apologize to Dalic, he made a mistake but he’s also a thoroughbred full of testosterone which makes him who he is…I’m guessing it might be hard for him to do!
I dunno Slavonac I am not sold on Rebic he has to change his mentality. Where he fails is to do what Mandzukic, when the game is not going your way you have to contribute in other ways. He just cannot do this, if it could change I wouldn’t really care about an apology or not.
I kid you not when I say this, Rebic gives sincere anxiety every time he has the ball and is making a run for it.
This is where boys are separated from the men. Part of being of a successful collective is losing the EGO. Apologizing is overcoming your ego self and then one starts to be part of the collective ( team). We will see in due time Rebic become a Man and loosing the thumb in the mouth attitude ( as in the last goal )!. Zbogom moras odati Ante!

Hope he gets paid
Speaking of keepers
If kalinic can somehow pull a miraculous two games and hajduk take it
He can’t be ignored for game time in September
Speaking of which. How is ivusic starting off the season?
Why do i feel he is better for repka then club?
Hey Dannyj, i feel the same way too about Ivusic, that he’s better for repka than club. Hope someone can comment on his performance for Osijek.
And yeah, we need a striker and keeper with the hot hand for 1 month, they can always revert to type after the WC haha
I have seen most of Osijek’s matches and highlights. Ivusic has not been brilliant, but from what I have seen he has not made any huge mistakes. Agree with you, he seems to perform better for the repka. Maybe because he has better defenders playing in front of him when wearing the national shirt ?
I think if it’s a choice of a keeper who makes a brilliant save he shouldn’t and then letting one in that he should have saved
And between someone who can be stable, control the play , make all the standard saves
We need to take the stable one
Meaning anyone over livakovic
Even the last game against Bodo/Glimt…
Livaković reacted like a frightened cat to the goal.
Jumped straight upward (while in a sideways position) while landing on his four hands and feet.
Not really sure if he was trying to save the goal, or if he was a cat reacting to someone popping a balloon nearby.
We just need a super hot hand for one month and If they go off into obscurity so be it
Same for a keeper
The rest we can rely on quality not a hot streak
9 goals in 4 games is better 🙂
