Vedran Corluka’s achilles injury, which he sustained in the waning minutes of Croatia’s World Cup 2014 qualifier versus Macedonia, may be worse than we initially thought. He refused to play against Belgium this past Tuesday and reports out of Croatia are saying that Ćarli will head to Finland this week to see an achilles specialist. It is unknown how long he will be out, surgery or not.
Ćorluka has been suffering from a weak achilles tendon for five years now. During Croatia’s 3-0 playoff win versus Turkey in November of 2011, Ćarli withstood the pain to score a goal while playing all 90 minutes.
well croatian bar economy is getting a little richer while he is injured.
@Jelic – The arena looked amazing, but Medvescak lost 3-2. They play in it again on Sunday. Will probably put a paragraph about it in the HNL report.
@ mkez00 and jm
I wouldn’t label Lovren as one of best defenders just yet.
Yea, name-wise he’s our best player in terms of transfer value, but he has been subpar when playing for Cro. Hopefully, he comes back strong and shows us why Liverpool and Barca have inquired about him.
On a totally different topic but very cool, Medvescak playing EBEL games this weekend in the Roman Arena in Pula!

The only positive out of this is that Croatia will be playing Macedonia and Wales for the rest of the year. Hopefully Corluka will be back for the Serbia game if anything. Hope he gets well because he’s currently my favorite player on national team.
Don’t kid yourselves – Carli’s injury is not all soccer related – it’s from all his extra curricular activities – the dominant downstroke position puts quite the strain on the achilles – Bit ce on A-Okaaaay
its a shame our two best defenders just can’t get healthy. as much as i like them battling through injury to play, hopefully they can get themselves fully right before coming on the pitch again. lovren tried to come back too soon to play in the euros and it looks like it has set his recovery back signfiicantly. corluka looks like he’s battled through the pain and injury on several occassions, and you have to hope he hasn’t done too much permanent damage
Hope he doesn’t rush anything. Take the time to get the right treatment and rehab. Don’t want another Tudor story.
Defense is our weakest area but hopefully Lovren will be ready soon and give the back line a bit more depth.
and to think Stimac was trying to force corluka to play v belgium……
I hope he’ll be back soon. We need him! Good luck, Vedran. I hope everthing wil work out just fine for you.
