Was Dinamo robbed with that penalty call? Arm was up in the air before the ball was kicked so what is a defender to do?
Nonetheless, the PK was converted and the Villareal ‘Yellow Submarine’ will leave Maksimir with a 1-0 1st leg victory. It’s obviously not the worst result for Dinamo as they left North London a few weeks back down 2-0; with no away goals.
Dinamo had a fantastic first half against Villareal and should have put one in. They actually did, but it was called back as the play was ruled offside. Oršić had a quiet game. Majer and Gvardiol looked great! And Petković (injury) was surely missed. All is still to play for in Spain next Thursday. The 1-0 loss isn’t the worst result but Dinamo will feel they should have left with more.
Penalty Call
Dinamo Zagreb starting lineup: Livaković; Ristovski, Lauritsen, Theophile-Catherine, Gvardiol; Majer, Ademi, Jakić; Ivanušec, Atiemwen, Oršić
It’s back to work for Dinamo Zagreb in Europa League after a ridiculous comeback against Tottenham in the Round of 16 last month. Villareal will be a tough test, however, Dinamo ducked Arsenal, Roma, Ajax, and Manchester United in the quarterfinal draw. So, they can’t be too disappointed.
There are rumblings that Josko Gvardiol could return from injury for the Villareal match. But Bruno Petković and his shoulder injury may be a larger issue than originally anticipated. The word out of Zagreb is that Petković can play through the pain and gamble, or he can get surgery which will sideline him for six months. And that means no Euro 2021.
Never a penalty shameful call.
Bradaric subbed one for one minute and assists already. He deserves his starting spot back imo.
That French defender is soooo error prone ain’t he
Killing Dinamo at the moment

So how does it work?
.
Do they randomly cancel 70% of ticketholders?
.
Or are they asking for volunteers to cancel?
I have tickets for the games in Glasgow
They only have like 30 percent capacity
@Dannyj
.
Why can’t you go?
.
Just take a PCR test or whatever, and get on the plane.
@PrvaLiga
.
Yup.
It was a weak call, and the ref essentially decided the match early, despite Dinamo having the better chances at that point.
.
Completely changes the dynamic of the game.
Dinamo ran out of gas in the second half, and that was it.
.
The good news is that I think Dinamo will play well in the return leg. Anything can happen, and the home/away thing means nothing now.
I like Jakic and he could be a decent top 5 league player for a lower club or very very good HNL player. I do think we have MUCH better younger talent for the repka though… he might be one of those guys that gets called up at 29 because we are dealing with a lot of injuries. He’s already like 23 I think too.
I agree
Play and grow our decki
Well sad news
I’m sending my euro cup tickets back
This was finally my tourney to go and was really excited to see luka play live before retirement
Fuck covid hard
How the hell was that a penalty shot, hits his body then rolls off and hits his arm at an angle he couldnt score from and this wasnt a penalty…. ball hits him in the shoulder/arm feet away from the front of the net going towards the goal. Not sure if either was a penalty but if you are going to call one you have to call the other.
https://youtu.be/agluP7O7tnw?t=63
I saw the replay. It was a soft call, but it did hit his arm.
Stupid move by the ref to give an away goal so easily.
.
At the same time, I wasn’t surprised that the handball was from Theophile-Catherine.
Dude is just clumsy. I don’t really understand why Dinamo stil have him on the team. He’s no better than your average CB.
Maybe they signed him to a guaranteed contract, and are just seeing it through.
He messed up a lot last year, and has maybe one good game out of three.
I really hate it when our teams buy foreign players, unless they are impactful additions to the team. “Role player types” can always be found locally.
Didn’t see the game
Shitty to hear about the tough loss
But more great experience
And you never know with the second leg
Without fans playing away is not so big of a deal
I’m sure we will see some of this talent integrated after euros
My cobbler like before Was the lovrens and vidas and even badeljs are like well we already started a qualifying campaign
World Cup is next year, let’s stick it out
Petkovic has a month to recover and work hard
He should be working hard on strength and cardio with this injury
He has the talent If he had half of mandzo effort he is top class
Love to hear the youth is going well
I did like jakic the couple times I saw him play
Does he have repka potential?
How is basic doing in France?
Someone needs to come up and put a fire in Broz and Kova
Dinamo played great in the 1st half, but their finishing passes, and shots were terrible. A fully fit Petkovic would have made a huge impact.
BTW: it was a soft penalty, but I’m pretty sure they did check with VAR as well.
Moro is good too. We have a lot of U21s capable of contributing to the senior squad.
.
Moro, Majer, Ivanusec, Gvardiol, Bradaric, and Sosa.
All should be integrated the first chance we get.
.
I’d even call up Petar Musa to fill that tall frontman striker role.
.
He’s 6’3″ and had a good season at Prague. He transferred to Union Berlin, but only recently won a starting spot (and assisted on a goal).
If we’re going to send in crosses with a player like Sosa, and want to play with a target man up top (or a two striker formation), it gives us options.
.
These U21s give us more options with their skillset, instead of relying entirely on our currently formation and praying to God that all of our first eleven players are healthy.
Now, with Petkovic’s shoulder injury, we’re in trouble of not having a true špica striker at the Euros.
.
Same as at the Nations League where we had to rely on a tandem of Kovacic and Pasalic to play in the pivot (where neither are good) and even on the wing.
Moro is a natural there…and Majer can play on the wing (Sosa too).
tough tough penalty call for dinamo.. although his one mistake lead to Villareal’s goal Majer is an absolute stud. he just jumps off the screen when you watch him play. needs a call up to the A team soon
Hajduk is in real danger of becoming the Newcastle United of Croatia, or how Leeds United used to be until recently. A club living off past glories and still thinking we’re such a big name that we deserve to be at the top of the league just because of who we are and our history. Yes there’s the incredible Dalmatian gene pool but that means nothing on its own. Respect to Osijek and even Gorica for what they’ve done this year – something Hajduk fans can only dream of at the moment.
Hajduk would have beaten Villarreal today.
It would be nice to hear from guys like Jozak, or some former Hajduk front office staff as to why Hajduk cannot seem to further develop their obviously talented pool of players.
.
We always hear from the fans and conspiracy theorists, but none of us really know all too much about Hajduk’s inability to match Dinamo and are relying on assumptions.
.
Would be curious to hear what some of the pros have to say.
Hungry is always a cautionary tale for Croatia.
If you don’t evolve you die.
Bundesliga redesigned their entire structure after Germany got blown out in 2000.
There entire professional league system is set up to produce a generation for ever.
I’d love to see HNL cause a breakthrough in standard.
We have grown in depth but I still would like to produce more world class players.
There are no players in the world like our nogometaši.
I also would like to see more quality coaching across all of Croatia.
I hate to bring up Hajduk again but we are talking about the richest athletic talent pool in the world and Hajduk being mediocre is unacceptable.
Zadar should build the Luka Modrić academy.
Osijek is a great step forward.
I know we do not have a colonial presence like a Portugal.
But there are a good example of a quality domestic league that produces CL clubs and world class national team players.
There has to be somewhere in between Jugo hating Hrvati and Mamić.
We need to find that balance and go forward.
I think Ivanusec, Gvardiol (19 and plays like a man) and Majer can all play in most top leagues but probably at a mid level team. Watching this game today gives me hope that some of our other clubs can do better…there are good players at each club I just think those clubs have to manage those players early careers well and give them a path to mature into having solid careers!
.
Villarreal is a good team, we aren’t that far behind them this truly demonstrates that if Croatia was a better organized country that did more to support professional sports, many of our teams could compete with many other clubs from top leagues.
.
I was concerned before the game started that we’d look outclassed but that wasn’t the case, we did more than held our own!
Yes
I too saw the ball hit his right upper chest and go away from his body.
His arm position should be inconsequential.
@ Svima
I would love to see a towering goal keeper flying through the air with his knee ready to hit someone’s head and knock the ball 30 meters away.
Also a more dominant goal keeper would simply catch most of those balls.
It’s not like we are a shirt people?
Obviously I’m glad in this case, but for example with Malta… they deserved that penalty in the first half. Who knows, maybe it would have given them the determination to win the game or pull off a draw? This bullshit needs to stop because teams are getting screwed over week in week out. We really are lucky to have beaten Malta. Here, we were on the unlucky end. It’s not like this is the 3rd Colombian division lmao it’s European UEFA football… get your shit together!
^makes no sense to me
They really need VAR in all of these competitions. To me, it looked like the ball never hit Théophile-Cathérine’s arm. It bounced off his leg and then away from his body.
Meanwhile, on an earlier play in those highlights, it’s clear that a Villarreal player handled the ball amidst the scrum following a set piece…
Why persist with these stupid refereeing controversies when the technology is there to make the right calls?
And the problem is if there’s one position you can’t afford someone who is insecure about their decisions or is tentative, it’s obviously goalkeeper. Really need a domineering type person in that role who is self-assured.
Livaković is waaaay too scared on high balls.
.
He (again) did this today, and the English commentator made a comment about it.
Livaković committed to run out and punch it away, then changed his mind, and ran back. Luckily, the forward messed up the chance.
.
He made the right decision initially to run out and try to punch it… But still ran back to his line. That’s much worse than just staying put.
I saw the ball hit is upper right chest?
His arm was closer to his side than out.
That was a tough penalty.
Villarreal is good there is no need to gift a penalty.
I think Dinamo with a healthy Petković has a punchers chance in second leg.
Livakovic played well and made some good saves.
He is just not dominant.
I feel bad criticizing him as I feel he is maximizing his talent.
He just looks small to me?
Luka Ivanušec is a Niko Kranjčar clone.
.
Just the way he dribbles that ball. He carries the same gait as Niko with the way he runs and dribbles around guys.
Seems to have the exact same skillset too.
Ivanusec is surprisingly good.
.
I thought Majer took a nice big step this year, and I consider him already better than players on the ‘A’ reprezentacija like Mario Pasalic…But Ivanusec could end up being the better player. I love the way Ivanusec moves. Always gets into great position, and equally dangerous with or without the ball.
.
Petkovic looks injured though.
They should not have played him. He walked around like he was afraid to aggravate that shoulder.
Nice game. Dinamo did well.
I’d be surprised if no top 10 team in Spain wouldn’t be extremely interested in players like Majer & Ivanusec.
Only Majer needs to get physically better. His game starts to lose quality after an hour.
Ivanusec will be our new Ivan Perisic.
TEST
Bad luck wit the penalty.
But impressed by Dinamo.
Daily should take Ivanusec, Majer, Orsic, Jakic, Gvardiol and Livakovic to Euro 21.
Ivanusec is better than Brekalo.
Majer is way better than Pasalic
Jakic is way better than Badelj
Orsic & Livakovic are already in the team
Gvardiol is better than Meljnak
I
I think it WAS just offisde but it’s one of those ones that is let go most of the time
And that was not a penalty. 🙁
That was not offside by the way. 🙁
my link for watching:

Thanks to the guys who type up the pre-game articles, however…is it possible to include what channels (if applicable) these games are on???
0-0 today 3-0 in Spain
shut up you latinx picka
Dinamo don’t stand a chance!

The black jacket is pretty slick.
I’m going to rock that with some skinny jeans …fluorescent crocs and white socks… the ladies won’t know what hit them.
But if you can’t afford the official stuff, I advise not getting the brutal knockoffs.
It just makes our gear look so bad, when everyone if walking around wearing terribly copied knockoffs lol.
.
Maybe just get a nice Nike “Hrvatska” t-shirt or some other thing like that (rather than so no-name crap on Amazon). There’s a pretty sick looking Nike one with a giant checkered swoosh on the front.
puno hvala decki
TOne, if your in the GTA, try Absolute Soccer (Burlington and Stoney Creek). Its run by Italians, but they always have lots of original Cro stuff.

The Nike store has them for all ages.
Not sure what your budget is, but these are the real ones.
.
As for the fake kits, I guess Amazon would be your best choice.
unreleated to the game: am looking for a hrvatska jersey for my grade 2 son, any suggestions that are not amazon.ca?
Hopefully Petković sits.
.
Euros are most important.
