It looked as if Dinamo and Sheriff would end Tuesday night’s match at Maksimir in a scoreless draw, but substitute Ante Rukavina would score in the 89th minute to give Dinamo Zagreb a 1-0 win in their first leg Champions League third qualifying round match. The former Hajduk and Panathinaikos striker would perfectly head the ball into the lower corner of the net off a cross from the sideline; enough to give Dinamo a huge advantage heading into the Moldovan second leg next week.
There was not much offensive attack in this match with Dinamo only managing six shots on goal, hitting the post once, and Sheriff with only two chances. But Dinamo got what they were looking for, a late goal, to take control of the tie. Now the Croatian champions can afford a draw or any one-goal loss (scoring themselves) to progress to the Champions League playoff round. The second leg next Wednesday will show what this Dinamo team really has this early in the season on the road against Sheriff. An early goal in the match for Dinamo would mean Sheriff would have to score three to progress. Look for open play and counterattack from the Moldovan champs early on in that match.
————————-
Should we expect the famous Champions League hymn at Maksimir again this year or is Europa League group stage more suitable for the modri? I’ve said it in the past and I’ll say it again: Dinamo belong in the Europa League group stage until further notice. Getting smashed week in and week out does nothing for the club when they can’t compete. The only thing it does help is deepening the pockets of general manager Zdravko Mamic when selling high profile players.
Which tournament better suits Dinamo Zagreb this season?
Snider is perhaps the only angler among the small number of regular park
fishermen who looks like he might front an avant-garde
rock band.
ie, obviously very croatian:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rocklea-United-FC/224706670943760
i always supported sydney and melbourne croatia
there is a brisbane croatian club but not at that level
its rocklea united its grounds are also the home of the croatian club of brisbane~
@iggy it’s a shame youv’e never been able to support any clubs in australia linked to a croatian background, since your from brisbane right ? AUSSIE WANKA
all you had was poor old aussie Brisbane strikers, Aussie supporting Cunt
Chivas is a funny club.
2 Croatian North Americans on among their former players.
Kovacic being injured is a concern. We need him in form for Serbia.
Not really, with the exception of Chivas USA and them being a sister club with Chivas in Mexico, but they have their own issues right now facing a discrimination lawsuit.
I team like Montreal may have crest in their sheild reflecting the Frech connection to Montreal, but that is about it.
I have a Q about MLS
sorry but i ahve absolutely no knowledge of anything to do with soccer in the states at all..
are some of the clubs clearly linked to certain ethnicities etc ? are they allowed to have uniforms/logos that correspond with that?
im just interested to know..
@Faux Cro……will it dilute???? Yes. But, MLS sees a growth in the game. Attendance is strong, especially with the new, modern stadiums. They feel the next TV contract will be bigger and the people lining up to own these teams have deep pockets. It is a risk, but they have expanded at a good rate since 2005 and the results are good. They have done their research have gone into strong soccer markets (the 3 canadian cities, Seattle, Portland, Philly).
Still too early to judge the academies, but they have to work. Anything is an improvement over the previous system.
@Ivica:
I agree with Ziva about playing time, but the future looks bright.
@Ziva:
That much expansion is only going to dillute the talent pool even more. I guess there will be 15 more places for washed up Europeans/South Americans.
Maybe MLS feels that the Academies are producing more decent MLS type players.
whats going on with vukusic?
Anyone want to bet that Kone and Jelavic come on at half to see how they work together?
.
@Ivica……..true, but I am curious as to how many of the young kids will actually play. I’m not expecting Jedvaj or Elez to get much playing time.
@Faux Cro……MLS just announced they will expand by 4 teams by the year 2020 and this doesn’t include the NYC FC team, which was already announced. So, that is five in the next 7 years, which could be a bit much, but that is another topic. So, the five: NYC FC, I think 2 teams in Florida (Beckham’s Miami team and Orlando), Atlanta and a team in Phoenix or St. Louis.
@ Faux Cro
A lot of reasons to watch Serie A this year.
Lots of young Cro defenders that officially made the switch this summer (Jedvaj to Roma, Elez to Lazio, Pamic to Chievo, Vrsaljko to Genoa, Bubnjic to Udinese).
Couple this with Kovacic at Inter, Radosevic at Napoli, Dabro at Fiorentina, Frano Mlinar and Ivan Kelava at Udinese, Petkovic at Catania, Sluga at Verona, Marko Livaja at whatever the hell team he is loaned out to this year…and the “Croatians Around Europe” segment is going to make ARMADA87 forget which country he is loyal to. 🙂
But it’s unreal how many Croats have joined Serie A for this season. Really glad to see that many of them are defenders. Probably the best league in the world to develop that area of your game in.
@Colin O
I know you aren’t from Orlando, but I thought you want to take a look.
http://www.socceramerica.com/article/52945/orlando-group-eyes-2015-mls-franchise-team.html
@Mishko:
I have the DVR set up. I am hoping for a Jelavic hat trick.
Let the garbage man clean up!!
@Capital, thanks for the info just found the game.
Anyone going to watch Everton v Juventus tonight at 8pm Pacific time? It’s on Fox Sports.
.
@Capitals 55:
Ditto
With him and Kovacic there, I might start watching Serie A more often.
Looks like Jedvaj is starting on the bench for Roma tonight against the MLS All Stars. Was hoping to see him start, but hopefully gets some time in the 2nd half.
correct…too harsh with the garbage term. I meant regarding the repka…..I don’t think he is a player we can rely on for the national side. He is the type of player who will score a goal once every five games. Plus, if we want to play a pressing game that values possession, he is not the right person for the starting 11.
@Ziva;
Do you really think Jelavic is garbage?
A little harsh, no?
For me he is a solid lower/mid table, top league player.
Is he Champion’s League caliber? Probably not unless he is placed into a team like Bayern where he doesn’t have to beat people 1v1 30 meters from goal.
I actually think he would do better at Bayern than SMM.
Many countries would kill to have Jelavic and SMM as their strikers.
Not done much, lol…Alen is barely 17. Nobody had even heard of Luka Modric when he was 17. You cannot expect too much from the kid, especially when you compare him to other successful players and what they did at the same age.
@ dannyj
Agreed. Add some width to our attack with our creative midfield Mandza will have plenty of service.
Mandza is up on Bayern with the champions league medal. He can leave anytime he wants and take is classic 9 game to a team that needs goal scoring machine.
Doesn’t make sense to show negative body language given Pep is now the man at Bayern?
Just need him in shape for this fall to get us in the World Cup.
@ Ziva
I see many strikers miss all type of ” Mandza ” goal scoring opportunities. We are blessed to have him scoring for us.
That is the hope and why I am favoring a 4-2-3-1 (or 4-5-1).
Anyone concerned about the half mujo Halilovic. He has not done much so far in the first few weeks of the season. And was booed by his own fans last weekend.
still he finds a way to put in the back of the net and besides with modric, kovacic and hopefully soon halilovic you would think all he would have to do is get open and put that garbage in the net and thats it… you would think with all this midfield talent that they should just be able to feed it to him on a silver platter
If Mandza doesn’t start right away for Bayern, I dont think its a big deal. Bayern have a long season and there will be plenty of chances for Mandza to play and score Olic-style goals.
Yeh typical. He looked pissed off after scoring it.. maybe he should move if there is bad blood with peppy
Don’t know if 24sata is trying to make something out of nothing here, but they are alluding to Mandza’s lack of a goal celebration and views towards to bench after his goal today. I guess they think there might be something between him and Pep. Time will tell if there is.
But, this was a typical Olic-type of goal.
http://www.24sata.hr/nogomet/mandzo-je-zabio-prvi-gol-u-eri-guardiole-bayern-prema-finalu-326292
I have not gone to any of these friendlies in the US that feature one of the gians of European soccer in a few years. Any idea what the ticket prices are. Curious to see what the present-day extortion rate is.
Kovacic was slated not to play for any games during this trip. Inter had put it up officially on the website.
@Scout……Dario Cvitanic(h) is not croatian. Also, travel at your own risk. Kovacic may not even play because of his injury. And, if he does play, it may only be a for 45 minutes or less.
I have to retract my last statement. He cannot play for Croatia due to some obscure fifa rule. What a better site to reference than the one we’re on? https://croatiansports.com/?p=585
@Scout I think Kovacic should play, given that it is practically a friendly and they would want to give youth some experience. Probably a sub. And I doubt Cvitanic would land a starting role but he might be a decent sub. If we can dress two Brazilians, why not an Argentinian with Croatian heritage?
Also regarding fowards,
Is it time to consider trying Dario Cvitanic from OGC Nice?
Questions:
1.) Chelsea and Inter Milan are playing in Indianapolis tomorrow. Do any of you think that Kovacic will play? If so, and if you lived to close proximity to Indianapolis (i.e Chicago) would you go and watch?
That Oliver Zelenika kid is looking good in net for Dinamo. Hopefully they continue to let him play instead of forcing the new Polish goalkeeper into the lineup (which they will).
We need some goalkeeper prospects.
@ majstore
lol alot of these news sites have half naked/topless chicks
with the new Kantrida, I’ll believe it when I see it – there have been rumors of a replacement for years, especially since milioner volpi came around
Modric rumors.
These kinds of rumors happen every year. In most cases, it’s during the time that the teams are having problems selling season tickets. Man United are throwing out low ball bids every week for new players.
Modric isn’t going anywhere, and he looks very happy in training.
For some reason lol !?
I bet that reason is one of the reasons most people love index. Ie. all the pics of hot girls (sometimes naked) they have on their articles.
Gentlemans choice ftw
; )

Vidjet ćemo kako nazvati novu tvrtku, recimo Stadion Kantrida. Nacrti su pri kraju, Grad i Država moraju kazati na koliko godina možemo dobiti koncesiju. Najprije sva dokumentacija, a onda razgovor s fondovima i bankama oko kredita. Optimist sam i ostvarivo je”, izjašnjavao se Mišković novinarima Novog lista početkom svibnja.
Obzirom da je bilo govora o isključivo engleskom tipu stadiona, gdje bi gledatelji bili u dodiru s igračima, nešto jako slično tome osvanulo je danas na Youtubeu. Vizualizacija izgleda novog stadiona pojavila se danas na Youtubeu pod nazivom “Stadion Rijeka test”.

@ majstore
mind copying and pasting that article? my company firewall for some reason blocks Index, Vecernji list …. but I can read Glas Istre, Slobodna Dalmacija, Novi List…
Regarding Modric……I don’t believe the rumors. Tough for me to believe Levy and Spurs think Modric would be OK with a move back to Spurs. Real Madrid may want to do the move (although, there in no proof), but I have a hard time believing Modric and Spurs would agree to personal terms.
wow – Ziva referring to Dudu as “Da Silva” not the wanna-be hrvat, that might be a first
Lol @ anonymous.
New stadium in Rijeka !?!?
http://www.index.hr/mobile/clanak.aspx?category=sport&id=692244
Has anyone else heard the transfer rumors surrounding Modric??
Regarding the whole “should I root for another croatian team in europe if my club is not playing”……..
I don’t care either way. I’m a fan of jadan i mali hajduk, but I have no issues rooting for dinamo when they play in europe. It doesn’t bother me if they win or lose. I never understood why people go nuts rooting against dinamo or rooting againt jadan i mali hajduk.
By the way, that goal by Rukavina yesterday was a good one. I bet you narodnjake Rakitic thinks its impossible to head a ball like that.
@ Denis Svircic – You already know i disagree with you about rooting for Dinamo in Europe so i dont have to say much.
Congratulations BTW sorry i wasn’t able to make it. Hopefully we can all get together when you get back home to celebrate. Uzivaj
Kalinic being called up shows you how bad our forwards are. After Mandza and Olic, it is a big dropoff.
Jelavic is garbage, Kalinic is garbage, Da Silva is always hurt, Livaja is a headcase and shouldn’t be called up because of his hair and ink stains on his arm, Rebic is a question mark. Based on his play at the U20 WC I would not have called him up. But, you have to call up somebody.
Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Duje Cop get called up soon. Then you know we are in big trouble if Olic and Mandza go down.
Ante B – Have a good time out there, prepare yourself for Cavoglave and if you run across one, please have a Hajducko u moje ime.
*Dnipropetrovsk not Kiev
why oh why is Nikola Kalinic getting callup still!?!?!? am I missing something? is he walking on water over there in Kiev? turning water into vino? he sure as shit isn’t scoring goals…
and when did Scifo move to PAO?
majstore, idi u kurac peder, ja bi tebe izlupo ko picka
Great view point Ante. Problem with this site is you have people like Cico who take it to an extreme and pit team against team and city vs city.
@ matesic method. Zagreb is the capital. Get over it. The future is investing in the whole country and the people not specific cities.
Hvala Ustani.
Ja Mislim to je dobar selekcija.

*edit: large contingent of Dinamo and Hajduk posters here on this site who absolutely are a false representation of what it’s really like here in Hrvatska (including myself). People like Nije Bitno are the majority here and they are extremely rational. The other fucktards here are not a fair representation, including me.
nice header for the goal
man i remember like 10 years ago or osmething hearing about this ante rukavina and how great he was how come he never was good enough to play for NT? was there more hype than deserved or .. what happened?
As I wake from my alcohol induced honeymoon, I apologize for committing the rookie mistake of typing while drunk and not being at the game. My honeymoon was planned out months ago and I had to compromise.
What happened with the BBB yesterday is an absolute tragedy and I’ll get into it later.
What I learned yesterday is that people like nije bitno are the most rational. This was solidified in my eavesdropping of the local mjestani who rooted for Dinamo last might and then absolutely nailed Mamic for what he’s doing to the BBB. There is an extremely large contingent of Hajduk and Dinamo fans who do not represent what it’s really like in Hrvatska (myself included). The only person again who I can single out is Nije Bitmo because the majority of dalmatincibhere rooted for Dinamo and not against. It was a great moment and it was almost better than being at the game.
Zagreb is a “b” Central European city. The future of Croatia lies with investing in Rijeka, Split, Zadar, Vukovar etc…
Dinamo makes life interesting for us as soccer fans as they produce world-class players by hook or by crook.
Hajduk needs to be sold and restructured as the people deserve better. With such a rich tradition and local talent pool it is a crime that they can’t compete with Dinamo.
Say what you want but the playoff/group stage experience for our young players at Dinamo is career changing for them.
Our very own Colin OHaravic was at the game. His picture might be in today’s paper. I will make sure to grab a paper today. Stay tuned for a story that will knock your socks off. What a way to catch your first HNL game.
I am all for uniting Croatians and “brat uz brata” but there are only a few teams that I would root against when Dinamo plays. I love Zagreb, have so many friends in Zagreb, but Dinamo is not my friend. 🙂
Modric is good friends with Levy so why not?
piss up my cunt i hope not..
Modric back to Spurs??

@Ziva
haha to je istina!!!!

Nice Last Minute Win for dinamo ! Your Welcome ! Thank God U had a former Hajduk Player on your team to Win it for U !! Ha ha ! Bog , Hrvati , USA , Champion L.A. Galaxy , Hajduk , i HNS !!!
ma, jebes sve……
Samo da znas, Jebes Split jebes Hajduk
I dont hate ante B. I actually enjoy his comments and responses, some of u guys are to sensitive on this site. And ur right pugerski pisme is something i made up, i like the sound to it. My grammar may not be perfect in croatia or english, but i think u can understand my convesation.
@jarac
I don’t get the hate towards Ante B, much less Zagreb, but if you’re going to call him an American, at least out do him linguistically. When he writes in Croatian, it’s generally solid grammatically. I’m no expert but I know it’s not “nazad u Zagrebu” or “purgerski pisme”. Why can’t we all just cheer for Croatian teams, regardless of their home city, when they take on other European teams?
oprosti amerikanac
Ajde pijanac odjebi!!!
samo da znas, JEBES ZAGREB JEBES DINAMO
@ Iggy
Going into leg 2 with a 1-0 home result is huge. Dinamo can draw or lose 2-1,3-2 and still go through…
Easy…It looks like they’ll be playing 6 more games in europe this year…which tournament though?
Dinamo shot the Sheriff….but they did not shoot the Deputy….
by round 2 i mean the away game sorry
oh and keep drinking ante b u crazy drunken bum
i actually havent had any alcohol in weeks now which is a first for me !
I was actually going to ask that, for the fans who love hajduk and hate dinamo, do u at least cheer for dinamo in europe or do u want them to always lose even against other european teams? Surely its better if our teams perform well on that stage regardless of who ?
Any hajduk fans want ot comment on that?
also.. 1-0 win.. so .. the top of the page says we have a huge advantage going into round 2.. isnt 1-0 like a 50/50 result ?
Also.. ha! Australia at water polo! The SHARKS i think they are called from memory.. or is it the barracudas.. heh heh heh..
Off topic, but thought some of may enjoy this article.
http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/04/12/100412fa_fact_samuels?currentPage=all
@ Ante – tako i treba! i always said we should root for one and other playing in europe. Representing croatia at its finest.
@Ante
Have another shot of rakija, for me. I can still make out what you’re typing – hence you’re not that drunk!
Burp….have another swig sport.
Note to self, never text when hammered, will sound like a moron.
Bravo Ante
Have a beer for me prijatelj.

‘Croatian Henry’ Rukavina with a late game winner, huh?
Yeah, those practice fields are Poljud are terrible. I’d be worried about training on them.
Practice fields are turf…..worst looking turf fields you’ve ever seen. Took my son’s team to CRO on a tour in 2009 and had to play U12 Hajduk team on this field. How pro’s actually don’t klill themselves on that crap is beyond me.
Note: My kid’s high school has newest field-turf. Another indictment of the “finances” of this club.
good fertilizer for their practice field that others are paying for. at least they don’t have to come out of their pockets for the shit lol
This week’s sign that jadan i amali hajduk is a disaster of a soccer club.
Now they cant even train on their practice field thanks to a dog show or some type of dog convention. I would cry if this stuff wans’t so funny…….Jadan i mali hajduk.
http://www.24sata.hr/nogomet/pomocni-je-teren-unistilo-4000-pasa-hajduk-mora-u-stobrec-325907
at least it was an entertaining first half. We we’re missing something out there though… oh ya a goal.
Hope someone decks that fernando…
A win by Dinamo today and we are one step closer to the possibility of seeing this again:
http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/eqSIvz5diLa/Real+Madrid+CF+v+GNK+Dinamo+Zagreb+UEFA+Champions/big42W1Tt4h/Krunoslav+Jurcic
Man, watching Dinamo play without GPS Kelava is just not the same. You are waiting for a screw up. It’s what makes the 90 minutes entertaining.
@Armada
Spoke with my cousin from Senj today. Minor quake, no damage and no one hurt.

UEFA punishment for Dinamo is in: 25K euro fine and no fans permitted in istok for today’s game.
@Ziva – I agree 100%
We got lucky today. Australia deserved that game. Sometimes you need luck, especially in water polo where the margain between winning and losing is so small.
against Hungary*
7-6 croatia in semifinals.
Modric being pursued by Man U again. Preparing a 25 million bid for him.
6-6 first OT over
australia giving us a hard time in water polo. Lucky to go into OT. its 5-5!
According to football press:
There are rumors about problems between Guardiola and Mario Mandzukic. So Chelsea if will not be able to sign Rooney can start to track this player.
Also mentionned: Olic said that this year will be his last in Germany. He wants to go to China or Qatar next year.
There are rumors about problems between Guardiola and Mario Mandzukic. So Chelsea if will not be able to sign Rooney can start to track this player.
Samo Hajduk.
Dnevnik.hr has the full video up (as per usual).
I’m torn – part of me wants Dinamo to continue to make CL and at least get that name recognition, but after two years of barely scoring any goals and celebrating like idiots after tying a not so good Dynamo Kiev, maybe it’s time Dinamo end up in the EL. Who knows; they could score an easy group, win a few games, boost the teams confidence, gain valuable coefficient points and maybe even make it out the groups.
Although not a fan of the “Dinamo International team” and “Arrogant Mamic”, they’re the only bread winners for the HNL aka they’re the only team who’ll earn a fair amount of coefficient points. I can see Dinamo perhaps advancing out of some patsy EL group, but I don’t see them winning a game in the CL groups, even if they don’t get matched with some of the giants from western europe.
what a crazed moron……so, to counter those who call Mamic a cigan, he brought out an actual cigan today to talk about discrimination. This is all sorts of awesome.
It’s kind of like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer asks Jerry to pick him up some “Cubans” while down in Florida. Jerry is expecting to pick up some cigars, instead three Cubans arrive at the door looking for Jerry.
@majstore, you gotta link to that conference.. Seen his smirk when they were displaying that anti racism shirt. Priceless!
Mamic at it again today hahaha, love this guy.
@Rob I I don’t think it’s known yet who their next opponent would be, depends on the results of the games still I believe
Don’t shoot the deputy.
if Dinamo wins the tie who would be next?
@Luka…..agreed, fine and one or two game ban with no crowd.
@iggy
Sheriff has either 3 or 4 Serbs playing for them. So to steal your words “smash those cunts”.
Remember we won easily last time we played but the prior time they beat Dinamo on penalty kicks. The ball is round and anything can happen.
@Ziva
I would be surprised if it is anything more than a fine or game behind closed doors.
Time for Sheriff to turn in it’s badge!
this should be an easy win for dinamo shouldnt it?
announce the punishment tomorrow. Sorry, forgot to add that
According to media reports, UEFA is expected to announce possible punishment for Dinamo.
the only way to get better is to play against the best clubs in europe, champions league
