FRIENDS & FAMILY OF GABRIĆ WAIT OUTSIDE THE SPLIT HOSPITAL
Croatian international Drago Gabrić is in critical condition and has fallen into a coma at a Split hospital after a freak car accident Monday evening in Croatia. The 24 year-old Gabrić was driving his BMW X6 in rainy conditions between Dugopolje and Biska, just outside his hometown of Split. After a three-hour investigation, police determined that Gabrić lost control of the BMW in a gentle left curve and careened off the road. He fell eight feet below the roadway as the car rolled over. Best friend Anthony Đuzel was also riding in the car but only sustained minor injuries.
Drago Gabrić was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit of the Split Clinical Hospital. He currently rests in a comatose state with severe head injuries, including a skull fracture and brain contusion.
Split and its surrounding areas were hit by heavy rain on Monday which contributed to the accident. No foul play was reported by police investigators.
Gabrić was just called up by Croatia manager Slaven Bilić for the pivotal Euro 2012 qualifier with Georgia on June 3rd from Split. It would have been Gabrić’s homecoming to Poljud after being sold to Turkish club Trabzonspor in the summer of 2009 by Hajduk. After scoring four goals in 25 appearances for Trabzonspor during the 2009-10 season, Gabrić was loaned out to Ankaragücü the next year where he scored three goals in only 14 matches. Numerous injuries kept Gabrić off the pitch.
The five-time capped Croatian midfielder is now fighting for his life and is thought to never play soccer again after this tragic accident, even after a god willing successful recovery. Mato Jajalo is the obvious candidate to take Gabrić’s place in this unfortunate situation.
Friends and former teammates of Gabrić came to the hospital as soon as news hit, including Kaja Rogulj, Nikola Kalinić, Goran Vučević, Aljoša Asanović, Nenad Pralija and Tomislav Erceg.
Drago’s mother was inconsolable on the night and father Tonči Gabrić, a former Hajduk Split goalkeeper, was quoted as saying, “It’s all in God’s hands.”
CSR’s thoughts and prayers are with Drago Gabrić and his family at this somber time.
Why would Bettman want an NHL team in the playoffs. An American team would draw more ratings than any Canadian team?
JP,
It's ok. From the beginning of the play-offs, the refs have been atrocious. Bettman just wanted a Canadian team in the Cup and that's what happened.
prayers and thoughts with you Drago Gabric. wish you a speedy recovery.
YES KLASNIC GETS THE CALL UP!!! I am sick of Petric and why not bring the big fella on the team. I am really excited and hope he gets in.
I knew someone was going to call me out about being a Heat fan. Believe me people I would hate the Big Three if they weren't on this team. I have been a Heat fan for eleven years ever since my brother introduced me to Alonzo Morning, Tim Hardaway, and how tough they were. I stuck with them through the bad years, the great Wade title era, the 15 win season, the one and half man show the past two years with Wade and inconsistent Beasley, now I got this. I am dedicated Heat fan, Denis knows it, Fisto knows it, and Ante knows it. Do I feel a bit dirty hell yeah, but I have supported the team my entire life so I am not the usual bandwagon fan. Wade is my all time favorite player and nothing will ever change that. Also until they win a ring, Udonis Haslem will be my 2nd favorite player regardless of LBJ and Bosh. I love my Heat vets.
The legend of Dirk Dagger continues, the Mavs are in… lets see if we can exact some South Beach revenge!!!!!
btw. sorry Ante B, but Go Canucks go!!!!
Andrej,
I already lost the house on the Lakers….
Miami makes me sick. Dallas will give them a run for their $$$…. but I dont see who will stop Lebron and Wade. Miami in 6
Denis,
I knew Miami was good and I knew they could win it the entire time I was praying they wouldn't and still am…
That being said I hope you didn't lose to much.
@Andrej,
Im with you on Miami, however, I wont be "done with the NBA if they win."
I am done with gambling on the NBA.
I could honestly careless who wins as long as its not Miami! They will ruin basketball for me forever! I swear I am done with the NBA if they win…sore loser or not I can't stand those cry babies in Miami
Good to see we have a bandwagon-jumping Miami Heat fan.
Eduardo scores goal vs Dinamo Kiev for Cup final victroy. Like I said the guy scores goals in big games end of…don't question why he is in the team.
I will say I am glad Klasnic got the call. That hit me blindly as I didn't see him getting the call but we know where he is good and that is final 20 minutes and if balls are in the box he will get his foot on one!
Lakic….very low in the picking order. I don't mind I still have yet to see what use we can get out of him. He is average in almost every quality…not saying its a bad thing but there are not to many pros or cons to his game he is just average.
++++++++ BREAKING NEWS+++++++
Petric out….
Klasnic in…..
LOL Mike Brown, yeah good luck in the playoffs with that bum. Regular season coach can't cops with the playoff environment. Mike Brown wow that's pretty funny, Lakers are nothing close to a threat for a while now. No way they get CP3, Howard yes. It doesn't matter though Heat dynasty just begun, last night was amazing.
Next year is a transition year for the Lakers. 2nd round and out. 2012 we get Howard and possibly CP3
@JP,
I just posted on facebook…
just when you thought "it couldn't get worse" for the Lakers. It does
@ Denis
Sorry to hear about the Mike Brown thing, ouch !
Croatia has a much lower prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases compared to the rest of Europe. Please Croatia, don't join that suicide cult called the European "union", which has an appalling low birth rate of 1.5 children; you need 2.1 to just break even.
Sad to see Markovic is making more news

@ Adrien,
Mistake has been corrected. I saw your comment earlier at work and laughed pretty hard when I found out what I wrote.
What can I say? My subconscious was thinking foreplay 🙂
Good eye..
How tragic. These crossovers and SUVs roll over too easily. Life is fragile.
Guys, it's "No foul play was reported by police" not foreplay. Not saying that might not have contributed to the accident, I just got the feeling that's not what you meant.
On a more serious note, I wish him a safe and speedy recovery.
just hope he gets better and still have a quality life. playing soccer isn't that priority. Drago i wish you the best.
Moje molitve su s tobom Drago.
I s tvojom obitelji.

It's gonna be hard for Gabric to come back after massive head trauma. Stuff like that changes a persons demeanor drastically. Let's hope the best for him, and hope he gets out of this alive(more importantly)
he is still in a coma but I read reports he will be out of it tomorrow, hope everything goes well!
I know this should be the last issue when dealing with Gabric's health but Bilic has made two changes to the squad.
Out goes Gabric (for obvious reasons) and Vida who was involved in an incident where he was drunk and apparently assaulting some young kids with a group of friends.
In comes Tomecak and Bartulovic. Very happy for Tomecak, he did well for Dinamo and adds a dynamic which the NT doesn't really have, a winger with some good pace. Bartulovic will be the backup LB for Georgia it seems, don't understand that call up in honesty though…still no Jajalo
I heard of this tragic news a little earlier & what can I say other then that I am stunned & saddened, he had the world at his hands & at this moment it is taken away, I hope & pray that he can recover from this tragedy, my thoughts are with Dragos family.. In the name of Jesus may god look over him..
