Our very own Matt ‘The Golden Child’ Lebo posed a fantastic question for Hajduk Split fans this week on Twitter:
A. Would you rather Hajduk be terrible for another 50 years?
OR
B. Swap roles with Dinamo for the next 10 years, but Zdravko Mamić is your manager?
Lebo has been a Dinamo fan his entire life so I applaud him on the sophisticated Twitter jab to Dalmatinci worldwide and Hajduk faithful. I have been a Hajduk fan my entire life as my crew is from Zadar. Hajduk also has (unarguably) the best football fans in Croatia. Sorry everyone else, but it’s the truth.
I would absolutely take HNL and European success for 10 years as a Hajduk guy! Are you kidding me?!
I most importantly want parity in the HNL. It sucks that the same team wins it every year. And that is not Hajduk bitterness coming out, trust me. I would feel the same way if Osijek won it 15 years in a row. It’s just not fun.
But I’ve also been saying this for the past decade: I wish Hajduk, Rijeka, Osijek all had a Zdravko Mamić running operations. Obviously, he did a lot of shady stuff during his reign at Dinamo, but he got the results. There’s no mistaking that. Dinamo also produced Modrić, Kovačić, Brozović, Mandžukić, Ćorluka, Vrsaljko, Lovren. That’s half of Croatia’s 2018 World Cup squad!
The Hajduk’s, Rijeka’s, Osijek’s of the HNL don’t get close to producing that much talent. But imagine if they did.
Osijek has Bjelica who is the best manager in the HNL. He has completely turned this team around and is continuing to do so. Why would they need Mamic?
Cilic just stomped on some Serb to make the semis in Adelaide which is nice

Bean eaters gonna love this one.
as usual, this topic is complex. on one hand, Hajduk fans say they hate the “corruption” of Mamic and on the other hand, their team has miserably failed because of their own “corruption” and mis-management. in my opinion, I feel their fan base and Torcidasi are misguided and FAKENEWS! they have had several street demonstrations, rally’s, protests…all in the name of Mamic and HNS “pederi” (fags) but the real issues are they’ve had lie within their organization. when a club can’t compete for approximately 18 years, its impossible to blame anyone but themselves and yet somehow, Hajduk has done that and done it vigorously. they stand their ground, make banners all over the stadiums, paint the street walls and bridges with slander and accusations, they personally attack Luka Modric and anyone affiliated with Dinamo or the HNS, they’ve gone so far that they wished Croatia National Team lost everything “sve izgubili dabogda” and they demonstrate that world wide, all because they “believe” someone else other than their own club management is responsible for their poor performances. there is no other explanation for all this…its already been clearly demonstrated on tons of occasions and pro-Hajduk media has done a phenomenal job of getting their supporters to believe they are the victims!
something that truly confuses me is the fact that the “Mamic” topic is used as a tool for Hajduk’s downfall. I love Croatia and I love everything about our people and culture, the traditions, the views, the differences in regions…I love everything except one major thing. That country still operates on the “who you know system”. It works that way for soo many things and if you don’t have a connection, you will have a tough time in most cases. also, politicians, business people, major company’s and most “ways of life” require you to have connections for anything. soo many politicians are “EXTREMELY” corrupt, judges are in on the scheme’s, lawmakers are in on the scheme, Croatian officials are in on the scheme….so when you have a country that “operates” with massive corruption, how do you decide “who is more corrupt”? do you choose the guy that is corrupt but isn’t working in your favor? in this case, it seems like it because lets face it, Hajduk has been filled with corruption and that corruption has caused the club many financial headaches. they’d never complain if they had their own Mamic who stabilized the club financially, made Hajduk a factory of major youth development and qualified for European tournaments every year…they’d be soo happy that their Hajduk has the funds to develop their own kids and they could buy better foreigners when needed, they could hold onto their own young stars and not sell them for pennies on the dollar….BUT THEY CAN’T BE HAPPY FOR ANY OF THAT, because they don’t have anyone that has put the club in front of their own personal interests. thats the problem here!
I remember one member on this site, he used to say he was the biggest Dinamo fan but really, he was a BBB fan. all he ever talked about was sitting with the BBB in the stands, chanting and singing songs…he was a Mamic HATER and that confused me. without Mamic, Dinamo would not have any reasons to chant and sing songs, they’d most likely not qualify as often for European tournaments, the club would never produce the youth players they currently do, they’d be just like Hajduk and in financial problems all the time, selling their kids for pennies on the dollar. it’s funny to me how we choose certain villains when its good for us and then we hate on a different villain because he does nothing for us…they’re all villains folks…understand that! your villain might be my favourite guy and my villain could be your hero…we just choose what we like and turn a blind eye when it suits us.
the last thing I’ll say here about this is…being selective and behaving as if “you are holier than water” while supporting a corrupt person or organization and then on the other hand saying “I hate that guy or organization” because they’re corrupt makes you an imbecile! you’re either a straight up person and won’t accept any sort of corruption and dishonesty or you will…its bullshit to dance through these topics and pretend its ok because your guy is “less corrupt”! God sees everything and if we are to behave as if we are “less” corrupt but still corrupt, it won’t make a difference!
Spot on amigo. Early post of the year candidate.
And here is another question for hajduk fans….as it seems all their troubles can be boiled down into two things….
Have you ever lost a game that wasn’t:
a) Mamic’s fault
b) The ref’s fault
c) both a and b?
#bbbomis
thanks Oluja,
to answer your question, I’ve seen many injustices in the league. the refs seem to make some very questionable calls against all the top teams so I see your point in the question. Petkovic got a second yellow card and ejected from the game for taking a bad penalty…I’m not sure if thats ever happened anywhere in the world?!
I have never seen anything like that for sure…I guess Mamic’s brown paper bag filled with cash didn’t get to the ref (and linesmen) before the game like it normally does? 🙂

I miss Mamic – AJMO!!!! – that is and will always be a classic- you can’t find that kind of comedy anywhere
The only thing that Hajduk has left is the name and memories of those glory days of the 1970’s and early 1980’s. As a fan I would like to see the club sold and to be privitised. Without privatisation and substantial financial infusion the club will struggle in HNL behind Dinamo, Rijeka and Osijek.
Money talks and without money we can only dream of playing in major European competitions. According to recent reports Dinamo has a budget of 50 million Euro’s which is approx. 4 times that of Hajduk.
As a Hajduk fan, they actually do have talent whether there up-and coming, UEFA youth league in the squad or on loan, the problem is that they haven’t been used a lot or are getting shipped out for older players.
The next youngster that is going to fall victim to getting shipped out for an old player is Marin Ljubicic.
As for Filip Cuic and Marko Brkljaca, it ain’t looking good for them either if they get to the senior team.
