ESPNFC.com has reported that Southampton have rejected a £20 million price tag for Croatian defender Dejan Lovren from Liverpool FC. Southampton purchased Lovren from French side Lyon last summer for a £9 million fee. With the Saints finishing in the top half of the Premiership in their first season of promotion, many of their players have become a hot commodity. Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have already made the move to Liverpool while Luke Shaw is headed to Manchester United.
Lovren signed a 4-year contract with Southampton which means the club is in no hurry to sell him unless the price is right. Lovren has been quoted assaying,” My head is already in Liverpool.” That can only hurt him in the long run if Southampton do not sell him this summer.
Liverpool finished second behind Manchester City last season in England with Champions League football returning to Anfield in September. That’s definitely a train Lovren wants to be on.
FIFA could put together an All-Star team of Dutch & Argentine players and I still don’t think they would beat Germany this Sunday.
Only team that’s gonna beat Germany is Germany; If they were to have one of their all too familiar big-game mental lapses .
Disagree they could of gone further and won today but no one is perfect.
@ante
Pobody’s Nerfect, I guess.
But from a talent perspective, this is as far as this Netherlands roster could go. They definitely overachieved.
wow all this talk about the dutch coach so great and we need someone like him, it made a few blunders today
pa… boli me kurac
Brazil’s tears taste so delicious, I could taste them all day long.
Danke Deutschland, for this amazing flavour.
@ Elvis
Dinamo’s bus looks like it could be one of the TRANSFORMERS.
Like My dido says, “bolje je biti najbolji u selu nego najgori u gradu.”
statistcs from any league means shit and Fred is proof of that, in fact it applies to quite a few of our players
@Slavonac
That’s why it’s good to look at his scoring record in a European league, as that’s what we mostly use to baseline and judge players.
He played for Lyon for several years and scored a little more often than 1 goal every 3 games. This seems like a more realistic scoring rate for a player like Fred.
Dear Scolari ..
You already have made the World happy with
“annihilating for Brazil”
so take your shoulder’s back .. chin’s up >>
You should proud for what Brazil did to attain ==> at least score for 1 goal
and make your team better than Saudi Arabia (8-0)
I’ve been curious about that guy Fred from Brazil so I decided to look him up and was shocked at what I found out…the guys record is incredible…I mean, in the 2004-2005 season he scored 41 goals in 43 games….WTF??? since 2009 he’s scored 62 goals in 96 games…so one of 2 things is going on here….since he’s scored this many goals in Brazil…they have no fucking clue how to defend or the guy is some soccer genius I’ve never heard of before….its one or the other but based on what I’ve seen at this WC, he was by fay the worst player I have ever seen play this sport…an embarrassment….and I’d have bet $500 if I saw him playing somewhere that he was some community player and not a NT member of Brazil.
look up this guys scoring history…his scoring production in Brazil is crazy….I’ve never in my life heard of a player that scores as much as he does….right now he has an average of scoring 65% of the time….and before it was 95% of the time….WOW…..Brazil must have absolute SHIT DEFENSE….
I think Buthurt Vukojevic can fit with the others……STD Corluka, Serb Subasic, etc….
Dear Brazil ..

Vuki needs to shut up and go off in retirement. Stop acting like a baby.
I was shocked watching the anthem and Luiz and the cesar are holding Neymar’s jersey. Pathetic, pathetic
Vuki going on these tirades is amusing, but I love how he believes he’s such an integral part of the national team. Congrats you featured in 55 games because the team lacks a defensive midfielder greatly. It’s mind boggling for him to think he’s this stud.
He had his moments, but it’s clear an upgrade was needed. Vuki was supposed to replace Kovac and was a disappointment. Any chance can we start calling him “Butthurt ” Vuki as his name?
Best bus goes to Dinamo

Nishimura can cry in his stinking miso soup all day. Hopefully he drowns in it.
Kroos signing with Real Madrid.
Fuck you Nishimura and Brazil!
Let third place be contested by third world nations Brazil and Argentina. 🙂
And let Holland and Germany compete for the World Cup.
and Vukojevic fires back at Kum Kovac…………….
http://sportske.jutarnji.hr/vukojevic—ja-sam-takticki-neuredan–kovac-je-pljunuo-na-sve-moje-trenere-i-na-sebe–/1204606/
This is getting good. I guess we can really expect Kum Kovac to get criticism every time the repka loses going forward while he is in charge. Well, at least it will be entertaining.
@Ziva
I think Brazil has been humiliated enough.
I was ecstatic when I heard Germany was up 5-0, that I had to take off work early and catch the rest of the match. But at the same time, I felt sorry for them after (even though the Brazilian fans deserved it). It was tough watching David Luiz and Luiz Gustavo praying on the field after the game ended.
I would prefer that Germany wins the title simply to erase that constant ‘Europeans never winning on South American soil’ rhetoric I keep hearing in the media.
I’d also prefer that Argentina face Germany in the final. That would be a killer game. Then again, the Dutch are nothing to scoff at, and it would be exciting too.
At this point, I don’t really care about the third place game. Brazil can win it for all I care.
Argentina or Messi can clinch for the cup or boot
we will not see Ronaldo wins Ballon d’or
anyhow Croatian should need for my Masterpiece !!

The winning order I’d prefer:
Argentina
Germany
Holland
With Brazil losing third place.
Ideal!
you guys can have your own debate.
Man, how comical was it to see grown men holding up a Neymar jersey or wearing it prior to the game and then seeing them lose. Neymar could be their child or grandchild. I guess being a jocksniffer has no limits in some countries.
On a more serious note……..What would be better? Argentina winning the cup on Brazilian soil or Argentina beating Brazil in the third place game.
…..by the way, loved hearing Fred getting whistled by the home fans in the second half. Perfect ending.
Did Brazil lose 1-7 on your TV at home as well? Wow, the only thing that would have helped them is if the Japanese ref came in for the second half and Fred took 7 dives in the penalty area.
8-7 Bingo.
hahahah brazil LOL
dalmo ante my hero, you are the only one
gay like you dalmo ante, love that you always take about this shit 🙂
I always knew it about you. 🙂
haha this guy called himself dalmo the fag as in he would be a fag (much like alex the great etc etc) these retards should think before they post, geeez Ziva im guessing he is just one of your fanboys and not you sinking to a level unbecoming your “stature”? 😀
I’m sorry. It’s the next photo.

speaking of taking it in the ass, Ziva how was Brazil? 😀
Laknat, fuck off.
this news was make me feel estatic .
but m ore than this.. would like to have Ko-Fuck discharge!!
definitely Brazil took it in the ass more…
Justice prevails. well sort of
:Love this score. Love seeing them on Brazilian soil embarrassed. Heard all the crap after they beat us. Hvala Njemacka.
I have to watch this game again tonight.
Who got it up the ass more:
A. Brazil’s soccer team today
B. the lady with STD Corluka tonight
@LAknat
True.
Ozil stuffed it up, had the chance to make scoreline even worse. And those actions resulted in Oscar goal.
1-7
Ya man…one of my buddies from Mexico is a good guy and told me although he was hurt and felt bad for Mexico…he said they didn’t deserve to advance….and he was embarrassed because of the Mexican fans looking like a bunch of low class trolls!
I heard there were 10 arrests in Brazil and 8 of them were Mexicans…cigani!
karma for them too!
Karma’s a bitch!
There’s no bullying Germany.
Slavonac agreed, now just wait for the memes 😀
Fred probably shouldn’t have crossed himself after that dog act, fuck with the gods they will fuck you back
floop of the match was Ozil
miss the chance .. and make Brazil has create for a Goal !!
Blame him. . Blame Ozil !!
Ozil shanked that one
I’m not one to jump on some social media site and make fun of a team, a person or a country…and I won’t start now BUT I am so tempted to bash Brazil because of how Scolari and Fred acted after they beat us…it was very unsportsmanlike to pretend as if Fred’s dive was actually a penalty…it would have been better to stay quiet or say it was a refs decision rather than to say “it was a clear Penalty”…FUCK YOU SCOLARI you cigan!
WEEEEEEEE!
Leading by a converted touchdown now!
Brazil will burn to the ground tonight!
Kind of thought he got clipped but yeah this ref’s been good.
Loved seeing Neuer scoop up the ball and bodycheck Bernard. Probably woulda been a penalty if we did that under that Jap re’f watch in the first game..
Give me Holland tomorrow. They play more open than Argentina. I want to see a classic on Sunday and I think Holland offers that with Germany more so than the Argentines. Although, the Messi storyline is good.
I was happy to see this ref not get involved with the diving…that fucker Hulk took a dive in the first half and the ref calmly called a goal kick!
Seems like all Brazil did for the last 4 days was cry about Neymar.
Should have put that shit behind them and been more focused.
Now for some keeping practice
^ ^
What would you expect him to do?…
Can you imagine if Kovac was coaching Brazil. He would be using the halftime in the locker room to instruct his players how to speak with the media after the loss.
svabi
Congratulations to miroslav klose on surpassing Ronaldo (brazil) as the world cup all time leading goal scorer.
Congratulations Germany on embarrassing brazil on home soil.
Fantasticno!
isn’t***
the biggest opponent for Germany –> Algeria
on this World cup !!
I haven’t witnessed a 5-0 score line so early since Kranjcar purchased 50 Big Macs for an early lunch.
this is a total different game…the ref is falling for Brazil’s bullshit!
Germany already wih more opportunities in 35 minutes than we had all tournament.
We made the Brazilian defense look very good, although wih Thiago Silva
5 nil to germany 30 minutes wow no comment further against brazil bye bye brazil 🙂
5-0 gotta love our German friends
Congrats to Klose ram that up your box brazil 😀
Ziva
Can you please tell me what the Za Dom Spremini lifestyle is?
Shit, I’m hoping for some more media meltdowns.
sour grapes, they can say what they want
as much as I don’t particularly like Vukojevic as a player, I can see his point…just as all Croatians could see it. He sat on the bench while a non defensive midfielder played his role in crucial games…and they ended up losing…if they would have won, Vukojevic couldn’t have said a word.
Ivica- I agree with you!
I thought Kovac would have had some imagination, kinda like what Bilic was, I looked at him as a guy that is hungry for knowledge and to utilize current technology and techniques to better his team…what I saw was a stubborn man that has been blinded for one reason or another, as if he didn’t think of “the consequence”…I swear, he was not only outcoached but he looked wayyyyyy out of his league!
To say this generation isn’t a good one, I beg to differ! Many coaches would have loved this team…several teams with far less quality achieved not only greater results but actually played better…PERIOD!
Our coach has to find a system that works for this team and stop trying to reinvent the wheel…ie…playing 3 players that don’t function well in the system he chooses. We may have to resort to playing Kovacic as a sub, start Rakitic in behind the forward and having Modric with a strong defensive midfield…we need Strinic, whether you like him or not…he’s been the best in that position over the past 2 years.
there are many areas to cover…one thing for sure is we can’t try to reinvent the wheel!
@Slavonac
Everyone loved Kovač as a player, and that’s the reason why everyone was happy when he was named coach despite not having any experience. Judgement was clouded.
He’s probably just your typical jock. He succeeded on the field with his strength and athleticism. He was our version of Gennaro Gattuso. But maybe these dumb athletic jock types aren’t the types of players you want running your team. They don’t strike me as guys who become genius strategists as they age. Gattuso has had horrible stints as a coach so far.
I dunno. I hope I’m wrong. Maybe Kovač is still holding his cards close to his chest, in an attempt to fool everybody as he takes the Euro 2016 crown!
😉
@armada
That’s right they were a more well rounded team back then(08). And they blew it, just like they did here (brazil).
They had a chance to make some amends in the eyes of the fans. But they didn’t seem interested, their eyes weren’t on the ball, so to speak.
Pletikosa should not have been anywhere near brazil. His lame ass should have been watching from his home. 5 saves for three games! What a dud.
That’s why subusic should have been in the goal mouth. He has been keeping Argentina’s no1 goalman on the bench at Monaco, and Kovac chose his buddy pletikosa? Why?
Pranjic should have remained retired, nuff said.
Anyway you break it down this team underachieved, with the talent at their disposal.
That’s what pains me most, when will there be another time when we will have this type of calibre in the vezni red? Modric came of a champions league victory in arguably the form of his life.
Rakitic came of a breakout year with sevilla and was picked up by Barcelona. They were ripe for this tournament.
How many nations would kill to have their top talent coming off seasons they had. Yet we squandered it.
We don’t have the luxury of coming of a failed tournament to just reload and go again, like some of the bigger nations.
We don’t come across talent like this every few years.
Defensive weaknesses could have been better managed with a better coach. But after the colour commenter as coach, we had the chance to replace him with somebody that had experience, but no we get Kovac..sigh
sigh
http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=53a98132e4b00f1381969dad
Vote LAknat and his Masterpiece !!
Getting the most from your players, finding a system that can help get the most from your players…this was a BIG problem for this team in the WC.
Imagine having 2 excellent players that can play a position and yet neither of them plays well….why not? Rakitic was sacrificed so that Kovacic and Sammir could play the offensive role…in some ways, we can accept Rakitic playing further back and distributing the ball, he actually has great vision and accuracy. Well, the theory failed…not only was Rakitic withdrawn but Kovacic/Sammir did little…..
How would Bilic have lined up these players?
getting the most out of your players…keep this in mind when you think of Pranjic. What exactly gave him such an opportunity? Did Kovac see something in him we didn’t? I am still scratching my head about him…the guy looked like a fish outta water and not only did he start once and fail miserably…he started twice!
there is nothing wrong with this generation…we’ve finally seen Perisic play well, we put Modric and Rakitic in positions where they suffocate each other, we force Pranjic into a role he couldn’t perform at a div 2 level…we experiment with Sammir and Brozovic…AT THE WORLD CUP….
maybe Kovac wasn’t as smart as I thought he was? I have a hard time saying this, I truly like the guy but maybe me liking him as a player has fogged my opinion…if I base my opinion on performance alone, he gets an “F”…he made several mistakes, not just a few…MANY!
going back to the ol Kranjcar debate…I hardly saw many long range quality shots during this tournament…he would have been a good sub that could have done that!
@ bijeli
but you talk of all this potential greatness this generation had…. if this generation had so much and was so great, why in non-Croatian media was it a 50-50 toss up between us and Mexico advancing. If this generation was so so great, shouldn’t of we been heavy favorites?
Here’s why; for all the Modric’s, Mandzukic’s and Rakitic’s we had…. we had a washed up Pletikosa who completely shit the bed, Pranjic who stunk it up on the left flank. A Mateo Kovacic who couldn’t get his game going. A shaky backline. Players out of position. 3-4 headline guys cannot win you multiple WC games.
Hence why Mr. Bijeli Oroz, the odds had us at 50-50 to advance, Mexico showed up to play, we had a combination of bad luck and didn’t show up when it mattered most (game vs. Mexico) and we were knocked out.
I’d say the biggest dissapointment was in 2008… We had a much more well rounded team. That loss was just gut-wrenching and I still can’t watch replays of that game. After our loss to Mexico… two days later I was fine with it. NK made some bad decisions, some of our key guys didn’t show up and Mexico and Brazil just outplayed us… nothing really more to digest in my book.
@armada78
Modric himself always it was a failure generation. So he thinks so too. Lol!
This was supposed to be their time to actually do something, after this it’s lament.
They qualified, yes, but so did the 2002,2004,2006, generation.
This generation blew every opportunity set before them. 2008 was a failure, not a success as you see
it. They finished on ahead of Germany in their group and vs the second placed turkey whom were unbelievably lucky to finish 2nd in group.
Then Croatia score 119 Min of extra time and they blow it! And you are trying to convince me they succeeded that year! What!
That year just brings me to tears when I think about it. It does not fill me with pride.
Then there’s missing the 2010 world cup. They did not qualify for that tournament, did they armada?
Now 2012 was unfortunate and they did play well against Ireland, 1 half of italy match, and did hold Spain for majority of the match and could have advanced if rakitic knew how to header a ball. Bad luck but still no advancement.
Now we come to this fucken tournament. I’m exhausted to even think of the failures that transpired.
Modric and co. Could have stamped themselves into our history books if they had beaten the Mexican side like he promised they would.
I’m afraid he and the team blew their chance at a respectable outing. They failed not just because of that fact, but there was alot anticipated that this was the new golden generation.
A generation were our midfield comprised of real Madrid, “Barcelona “, and inter Milan players, we also had a Bayern Munich striker. All of which came of their amazing seasons at those clubs.
They were in their prime, the prime years to actually achieve something. But they failed big time, they let it pass them by and they will never get another opportunity to do so.
That is why it’s a failed generation.
Open your eyes and see it for what it is Mr. Armada.
who gives more when called upon to perform:
A. Rakitic for the repka
B. Porn stars on their back
C. STD Corluka passing fluids along and infecting conquests
D. Kranjcar at McDonalds
E. Diaspora hrvati ordering drinks
Enough with this talent bullshit talk and that Van Gaal would trade Snjeder etc for Modric and company. No he wouldn’t. Why because when needed Snjeder shows up. Just like he did in the Mexico game with two minutes left. Our players have the talent but leave it for club and more concerned about not getting an injury. No hustle from our players, no urgency, just a walk a in the park for them. They don’t show up and others countries see this. Fuck we lost to all mighty Scotalnd–twice.
Blame the coach and savez all you want but that is just deflecting the real problem.
How Will Ivan Rakitic Fit into Barcelona?
By Aleksandar Holiga
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2122690-how-will-ivan-rakitic-fit-into-barcelona
Nice post Armada!
Good to have some perspective.
I do agree that our talent which is considerable, is obviously being mismanaged.
The more I watch sports, the more I release how important leadership and respect at the highest levels of an organization affect a team.
THIS FISH STINKS FROM THE HEAD!!!
Stimac and Kovac make Bilic look good.
Ivica A,
I agree.
The fact that a small nation like ours almost always qualifies is in itself an over achievement.
However, with the talent we have we should do much better.
With the talent we have on this team, we could have gone far.
That’s what is most upsetting about this World Cup.
@Slavonac……..absolutely his “kum” status got him the job. It is the reason he got the U-21 job and it was the reason he got the senior side. Now, I still think he will be a good coach one day, but when will that be. We have a guy with 5 official matches under his belt going into Euro qualifying. They did it with Bilic (mixed results, but positive mostly) and with Stimac (failure). No big decision at the HNS gets made without the approval of Mamic.
@Elvis……most muslims in Cro are non practicing and drink booze Shit, there is a heavy percentage of catholics in Cro who are non practicing and don’t live a “za dom….spremni” lifestyle.
Does anyone know if there is a friendly scheduled for August or has that date been taken off the FIFA calendar. I can’t recall who we played in Split a few years ago, but the game fell on Velika Gospa. What a joke that was to play a game on Velika Gospa. Only people who turned up with the diaspora hrvati.
Ivica- its up to the HNS to choose the right candidate for the team. We can all sit back in front of our computers and pretend as if we have knowledge on who would be the right fit but chances are good we know very little about what really goes on, who could be a good option and many of us only know what we read….which is mostly biased info.
I’m pretty confused about Kovac right now….I thought he was a man of integrity (and still think he is) but Ziva tends to think his “kum” status got him the job, if so, I’d prefer we get rid of him!
Coaching requires a lot of experience, knowing how to utilize your resources and having a support staff that can do much of the “heavy lifting”….I’m beginning to wonder why none of Kovac’s support staff challenged him on some of his decisions or maybe they did, but he’s just to stubborn to accept a different philosophy!
This is the socalist Yugo mentality where we are happy to be peasants.
@ Ivice
All valid points, my friend. I don’t have the “just happy to be here mentality” but I guess I’m just not expecting us to make it to ever knockout stage for major tournaments. I think you’re right that our talent wasn’t used properly and that we have had major coaching issues in the last handful of years.
I also attribute the lack of results to player mentality. Just feel like we don’t have a “killer” out there who can really take over a game, impose their will and really lead us to victory. Not sure how this next generation is gonna shape up, but hopefully there isn’t as many mental midgets as in previous generations….
Alot of you guys are talking about what kovac should do at the euros. As if we get some kind of automatic qualification. For me, a big fear with this team is that we wont even qualify. And thats not me being pessimistic. Thats me being real and making judgments based on how this team performs (usually very poorly).
@ARMADA
Don’t tell me you’re one of those Croats with a peasant “just happy to be here” mentality.
Or one of those people who mindlessly say things like “we are only a nation of 4 million, vi šud bi hepi”!
But if you simply just look at the individual talent we’ve had on the field in these past 6 years, we should have done more than what we’ve done. The Czech Republic, Belgium, Uruguay and all these other countries have advanced very far whenever they had a core like ours.
I’m sure if you asked Van Gaal right now if he’d trade Sneijder, Georginio, and De Jong for Modrić, Kovačić, and Rakitić… He’d pull the trigger like it’s fucking Oluja.
Our issue in these past 6 years has not been a talent issue. During this period, We’ve hired three coaches who had never coached before in their lives. THAT’S the issue. But, Because our standards were lowered as a result of our poor results from 2000 to 2006 (where it actually WAS a talent issue), we’ve seemed to accept this ‘just being here is a success’ mindset.
@Armada
1998 becomes a distant memory every tournament. Be happy if we qualify for a tournament but exit from the group stages is what awaits us. At least we get three games!
Failed generation? lol
Last time I checked, this generation got us to every major tournament aside from WC 2010 and gave us a nice run in Euro 2008.
People, do you forget we’re in that second tier of UEFA NT’s? We aren’t a Germany, Italy, Spain or Netherlands that is basically guaranteed a spot in the knock out stages at every major tournament. Like a Portugal, Czech Republic, Greece and Russia, we normally make a Euro or WC tournament, but its a complete crap shoot in terms of getting out of the groups.
Second tier squads like us have to rely on “golden generations” to get them deep into a tournament. Belgium is at the beginning of theirs now but where were they 5 years ago? Look at Czech Republic, in the early 2000’s, they were almost at that upper tier of NT’s; consistently making deep runs in tournaments. Now look at their NT – 34th in the world and it’s a big deal for them to just make tournaments. Obviously that mid 1990’s team was our golden generation – then we had another strong team in the late 2000’s – but deep runs in tournaments should be looked at as the exception, not the standard.
Hopefully with all this supposed young talent we have, we can make a nice run at Euro 2016 or WC 2018, but as I mentioned earlier – it’s a crap shoot.
I know some homers on here will chime in with the “omg you’re not a real fan! how could you think that?!? that reasoning isnt the Croatian way!!!” hey it might not be – but this is a realist approach to our chances of making deep runs at major tournaments. I think the sooner some folks see this – the easier it would be to digest an early exit like what happened to us at Brazil.
Does anyone know about Halilovic’s personal life? Is he really a muslm? Does he not eat prok, drink beer, or pray five times a day. Does he have tattoos?
Bobby V.
Thank you for the list with the candidates for the World Cup Final.
This is the prove that the FIFA is maffia. If you ask a referee to make sure that a team wins a game, you simply can’t send him away after he helped that team. He won’t get the World Cup final but they will let him stay in Brazil until the last day.
If there was any decency in this world, Blatter and Platini would be in jail for the rest of their miserable lives.
Bobby V – That would be the biggest new story leading up to the final if that asian referee gets the gig.
He might as well wear a Brazil shirt as well
who you have been talking with ::
but well … whoever the coach is .
bring it on for my Masterpiece !!
We Would have, could have, should have done this, I think some of you should be the next coach, turn in your resume
Ko-Fuck should bring this Masterpiece on Euro 2016

Gave up 6 goals against Brazil and Mexico with Rakitic and Modric playing defensive midfield.
Maybe if Kovac pushes them forward, he would have found out that a good offense is sometimes the best defense.
@ziva
Better to test them sooner than to never be tested.
This was a failed generation. Time to begin with the new.
Some immediate pain will be better for the long term in growing the repka as a group of young players whom will be comfortable with each other at later stages.
Rather than have disjointed individuals as we have now.
FIFA announces the candidates to referee the World Cup final – check out the fourth name on the list.
Kandidati za finale: Noumandiez Doue (Obala Bjelokosti), Djamel Haimoudi (Alžir), Ravšan Irmatov (Uzbekistan), Yuichi Nishimura (Japan), Mark Geiger (SAD), Marco Antonio Rodríguez (Meksiko), Enrique Osses (Čile), Sandro Meira Ricci (Brazil), Carlos Vera (Ekvador), Cünet Çakir (Turska), Jonas Eriksson (Švedska), Pedro Proença (Portugal), Nicola Rizzoli (Italija), Howard Webb (Engleska)
How awesome would it be to see him do the final and give another one of those penalties to Brazil.
Yes, and we made him look like a star.
We are not going to play untested kids in the qualifiers. I see people listing Halilovic now……this is comical.
@ziva
Was that a knock on me about bleeding the youth?
Be logical and not twist what people say.
When do you expect for them to make the transition?
“putting them on when we a a goal down”
What? Are you some kind of doofus? Or you trying to be funny?
So what your saying we should stick with pranjic and pletikosa types for the upcoming qualifiers?
Is this what you saying?
And aren’t you the guy that said Croatia’s greatest asset against mexico will be, Marquez being on the team?
I’d like to see the Netherlands win the World Cup. Three times in the finals , but, have never won it.
Their 1974 team with Cryuff, Neeskins, Rep, Rensenbrink, Krol, Van Hanegem, etc. was my favorite non-Croatian-Yugo side ever.
Really interesting if you look at Yugoslavia’s team that year (it was the WC that they defeated Zaire 9-0) 21 of the 22 players selected were from the Yugoslavian league – one played for Troyes-France.
Wow, have times changed.
8 were from Crvena Zvezda, 7 from Hajduk, 3 from Velez, 2 from Zeleznicar and 1 from Olimpija.
Not one player from Dianmo Zagreb.
Ummmmmmm. Halilovic as a starter??????? When, for the Sept. qualifiers?????? Some of you guys are smoking crack.
Perisic is a starter ahead of mujo.
You wanna see for Masterpiece huh >>>

………………………….Mandzukic…………………………
…….Rebic………………Rakitic……………..Halilovic…….

…………………Lovren…DMF…Corluka…………………..
………………………..…Subasic……………………………..
This will be our finest lines up >
1) while Rakitic and Modric (both) can be change with Kovacic.
2) and Vrsjalko can be right back wing instead of Srna .. while the left back wing be on Strinic’s role ! !
3) Rebic and Perisic can be switch to each other !
4) Rakitic and Modric have space to their own in the middle
the can show for technique with support from
FW WingFW WingDeff and DMF
5) remember .. the big problem in this team .
when we are too affraid to changing Modric and Rakitic. . even further bench him > and playing for alternative ! !
Here are my takeaways from the World Cup
Rebic should have started
Why the hell is Kovac starting pranjic at DM when he could have started vukojevic badelj kovacic or even brozovic
Rakitic should have played at AM behind the striker where he plays at Sevilla. Kovac puts he at DM which are two completely different positions
The kovacic modric rakitic midfield is not going to work because it lacks a bruiser who make tackles in the middle of the field
Croatia lacks coaches the HNS just keeps hiring former players
If the croatian league was stronger that would be a huge help to the national team. Players would not get sold at such an early age and would stay and develop.
Livaja needs to be on the national team. All you are complaining about a lack of effort and passion. These are two things livaja has plus loads of talent. Ziva doesn’t like just because he has tattoes. That is no reason not to call a player to the national team.
@Bobby V
You’re right about Euro 2008.
We were amazing that year, and all we needed was a striker. Eduardo was supposed to be that guy.
Germany was unimpressive that year. The only strong teams, IMO, were Spain, Croatia, and the Netherlands. The Dutch and Croats were both shocked in the quarterfinals, then it became a walk in the park for Spain.
That was our tournament.
Eduardo is staying in Brazil and signing for Flamengo?
Well, I guess this is the end of his NT career as I doubt he will be flying across the ocean for qualifier matches. Then again, I think he is part of the anti-Kovac group so he is probably out anyway.
I was never a big fan of Eduardo as a footballer anyway, although he seems like a good guy personality wise. He was a superstar prior to that injury. But once he broke that ankle, his skills went with it.
I wonder how his wife and kids are gonna like living in Brazil?

Good luck to eduardo all the best time for croatia to rebuild national team as my buddy mentioned to me we have been playing like shit since 2008.
i will always like Da Silva because he challenged Mamic and won.
Eduardo is going back to Brazil.. He will be signing for Flamengo.
There was a rumor that Harry Rednapp wanted him at QPR, but, he opted instead to go back home.
Probably would have won Euro 2008 with him – best of luck – class act.

Club football is more important to players these days than international football. They play with their club for almost the whole year then they go play some games with their international sides mainly qualifying games. Even club coaches don’t want their players getting injured in friendly international games so imagine what they would think of them getting injured in qualifying games. They earn big money for their club’s so maybe they are not playing 100% anymore “cuvaju se ” za klub as people say. Some players still do play with alot of heart for their countries but i think our two best mids Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic were more concerned about their upcoming new seasons with Real Madrid and Barcelona. If they did play a whole years worth of games with the reprezentacija, earning big money with repka, than with their clubs maybe we would of seen more heart and effort determination.
Listen problem is the HNS they need to take more care of the HNL and look for dijaspora and we move on from that point.HNS needs a change from grass roots and foward.
Stimac shouldn’t of gotten the job in the first place. once he got it, there’s reasoning that one could say he should of finished it off.
When comparing Stimac and Kovac, at this point I see no difference. At least Stimac got rid of Pranjic who was obviously our worst player, probably worst player in the world cup. hopefully Kovac learns and shows he’s much better than Stimac.
hahaha…really? she is?
it helps when you inhale a certain product
Jelena Rozga looks pretty damn good…nice body!
Ivica- you’re probably right but how do you take him seriously if thats his open comment? Stimac to finish the job? it was a gong show that was getting worse by the game!
@Slavonac
I think Skoblar is just so anti-HNS that he was reaching when he said that they should have let Štimac finish his job. He just wanted to disagree with the HNS. Honestly, Štimac needed to get canned and nobody should defend that.
However, I would like to see what a team managed by Ćiro and Skoblar could achieve. That must have been a good conversation that those two old farts had, lol.
Lol. Špaco went ape shit on Kovač in that interview.
Skoblar is talking out of both sides of his mouth…I agree he could and should criticize the savez but then he goes on to defend Stimac? he loses credibility right there!!! Stimac lost complete control of reality and his players began to implode…it would have been even worse if they didnt fire him, Skoblar is making a lot of sense until he begins down that path….it shows he isn’t stable mentally!
Preach Skoblar, preach!!!!!
http://sportske.jutarnji.hr/josip-skoblar-otvoreno–za-sve-je–kriv-hns–ti-ljudi-su-nekorektni-i-nesposobni–/1204328/
Badelj is a fringe player when it comes to the repka. Someone to use for a spot start or coming off the bench. Nothing more than that right now.
This war of words with Kovac is actually fun to read……..http://www.index.hr/sp2014/clanak/spaco-odgovorio-kovacu-reprezentacija-je-zivi-cirkus-a-ti-si-pokazao-da-uopce-nemas-karakter-/758581.aspx
hopefully we get more of it.
In the past I’ve asked you and a few here about Badelj…I guess he’s not NT material? Kovac took Vukojevic knowing he’d most likely never use him so what does this say about Badelj?
agreed…….part of the job of a coach is to put his players in the best situation/position to help the team. That did not happen. Playing Raktic so far back negates his abilities.
Fuck it…..it is what it is. I don’t care how any of these guys look with the their club teams. Only thing I care about now is what they look like in Sept for the qualifiers.
Ziva- I was ok with the Brazil game, I thought we were disciplined for the most part but the ref screwed us…I wasn’t sure about the Cameroon game…it was too hard to tell if we were good or if the man down helped them…not all teams with a man advantage do as well as we did….and against Mexico I felt we didn’t really have an offensive plan, we looked average but until we made the change in midfield, it was a close game. I was very pissed to see Pranjic go back to left defense that game and I was equally pissed to see we lost complete composure defensively!
going forward, I think Kovac has to establish a strong core and ensure we don’t get caught up in another situation where our midfield cancel each other out…it was horrible to see none of them make much of a difference….its one thing to say you have 3 world class midfielders and its another to play without making much impact utilizing them in a game.
Tough to make a run in a tourney when we have a bunch of mental midgets on the team.
I’m always curious to see how teams and individuals respond when things don’t go their way (a loss or giving up an early goal). It is easy to say and do the right things when the results go your way and you are not playing from behind. Our boys show they can’t respond when positively when things go bad.
@Doktor Prle
“So if you enjoy just getting there and exiting early, fine by me. I enjoy it too. But then that’s all we should expect.”
Was thinking the same thing the other day.
Really do look forward to those 3 games every 2-4 years though.
Have some friends over, eat and drink way too much and that’s that.
One day we may go on a bit of a run, but I seriously need to lower my expectations in the future. This team is jading me badly! And this coming from an Eagles and a Canucks fan..
We didn’t belong in Brazil? Enough of this “sky is falling” nonsense…
For our qualifying group, you guys don’t think we deserved a spot over the likes of Serbia, Wales and Scotland?! We 110% deserved our spot. Did we play like it? No, but the fact remains we deserved it…. Move on folks; we shit the bed, NK is a work in process and we need to move some younger pieces into the fold. I’m curious to see what happens with some of these ‘older generation’ guys and who we can expect to play vs. Malta in Sept.
There are the obvious mistakes, and not-so-obvious mistakes.
The “not-so-obvious mistakes” are the ones that an experienced coach may be able to catch in training, but is not visible to us fans in the the outside world (ie. Pletikosa’s drop in form, lack of effort from key players, etc).
Whereas, “obvious mistakes” are the ones that even a dumb fan can see (ie. playing Pranjic at LB, playing Sammir at all, and playing a slow Jelavic on the counter against Brazil).
Kovac should not be blamed for the not-so-obvious mistakes he made. These are hard to catch even for a good coach. Before the tournament, everyone here would have gone with Pletikosa over Subasic. Even after that Brazil game, it’s not always a good call to just switch your goalies mid-tournament (and Plete’s mistakes were not terrible against Brazil).
As a result, Kovac should not be blamed for Pletikosa. Nor should he be blamed too much for the lack of effort shown by some of our key players. He may have been able to change things in this area, but even experienced coaches can make a bad call or two.
As a matter of fact, the lineup and tactics in that Brazil game was almost perfectly played. Playing both Rakitic and Modric deep is a good move if you’re playing for a draw (and it almost worked). Lovren worked out really well, and so did Vrsaljko (two risks that turned out to be pleasant surprises). The only blatantly obvious mistake was Jelavic (who completely fanned on his only shot, and was lucky that Marcelo knocked it in anyway). Jelavic should not have played, and everyone knew that. Luckily the own goal worked out for us anyway.
I also gave major props to Kovac’s substitutions that game as well. It was very easy for a coach to jump on that stupid Eduardo hype, but Rebic was the correct choice and it showed. He also made a good move to choose Brozovic over Sammir, and played him forward instead of deep (where he’s not good). Brozovic was nervous but at least managed a couple shots. Kovacic was completely gassed and had to be taken off and we had noone else as ACM. Did the best with what he had and didn’t resort to shifting our successful midfield around or playing a sub out of position.
HOWEVER, Kovac absolutely must be blamed for the amateur mistakes of Jelavic, Sammir, and most notably Pranjic (and then Pranjic the second time). These were all very obvious mistakes that even the dumbest fanboy would have predicted. I don’t thing anyone can disagree that playing Pranjic cost us dearly in this World Cup. He was horrible against Cameroon, and even worse against Mexico. At even strength, both teams outplayed us with Pranjic at LB. The fact that he was actually supposed to play against Brazil is scary to think about.
But it’s his comments after the World Cup that has people pissed off. It seems like he is just being completely ignorant to what happened and is not even acknowledging that we played poorly at all. He seems to think we were excellent against Cameroon, and good in the first half of the Mexico game (a must win-game where we registered zero shots in that half). Either Kovac is stubborn or Kovac is stupid. It’s a terrible feeling knowing that using a failed World Cup campaign to grant some experience to an inexperienced coach lead to them not learning anything at all.
I am hoping that Kovac is not this stupid, rather, I am hoping that he is just a classless stubborn guy who doesn’t want to give the media any satisfaction. I am hoping that he really did see all of these mistakes, and is secretly working very hard to ensure that he plays the right players and the right tactics against the other teams in this Euro 2016 qualifying group. I don’t want to witness what I watched in WC2014 again.
I think we should be doing much better with the talent we have.
Croatia lost to Scotland – twice. Yikes.
Croatia has a lot of good bits and pieces, but is disorganized. And that’s putting it lightly. Croatia didn’t belong at the WC because the overall product, as a result of years of ineptitude and mismanagement, just isn’t good.
So if you enjoy just getting there and exiting early, fine by me. I enjoy it too. But then that’s all we should expect.
Croatia plays incoherently. Mainly due to the fact that most of those guys are physically inferior to their opponents. Even if they do have technical ability, it can’t be unleashed because there’s no strength or power behind it.
When you’re physically unfit, then you can’t string passes together; you can’t create space; you can’t get the 50/50 ball; and you can only dream of mounting a reasonable attack or applying continual offensive pressure.
That’s the way it is. I hope it changes. But that’s the current situation.
Does anyone know if Pletikosa found a new wife?
Prle- “Croatia didn’t really belong in Brazil. We have to be honest.”
I think you’re way off on this comment!
we’ve been playing poorly, we’ve had personnel issues, players that have not performed but you are wrong…Croatia has good players, we just don’t have consistency…and thats a very crucial part of the game. we have to play a system, get some success and gain some confidence. It appreared to me that Kovac had no solution for defensive centre mid, he wanted to utilize Kovacic, Modric and Rakitic but never gave them the formula for success…and he really shit the bad with Pranjic…no two ways about it, the guy looked like a fish out of water.
once those details are addressed we can move forward…Perisic played very well, Mandzukic needs to stay focused and play his game and the rest were ok but would have looked better if we have a more solid centre midfield
And, quite frankly, I agree with Skoblar. Stimac should have been allowed to finish the campaign. It would have most likely resulted in Croatia not qualifying for the WC, which would have been the logical and correct conclusion.
Croatia didn’t really belong in Brazil. We have to be honest.
The HNS is run like a family (mafia) business. They push the product – which isn’t very good – and who gives a shit about the consumers (that would be us fans).
While corruption and nepotism will always be a part of anything Croatian (to be fair, it is like that elsewhere, too), other nations still have some standards that they will not fall below.
Croatian football is rigged mafia-style, producing just good enough of a product to line the pockets of very few, while the consumers suffer.
I didn’t expect Niko Kovac to reject the opportunity to coach the “vatreni” – that’s just how Croatians do things – but imagine we had a guy that said: “Thanks, but no thanks. At the moment, I’m not qualified for the job.”
We’ll probably never experience such a thing in our life-times.
That said, I support Niko Kovac. Bilic & Stimac were hired with virtually no experience, so Kovac will get the same opportunity. It’s how we Croatian do things.
Don’t make it right. But we ain’t changing shit.
Fuck Rakitic setting up the only goal against Mexico!
He was also completely asleep and not covering his man on one of their goals off of a dead ball.
Seems he’s just as good at marking guys in the air as he is at placing headers when it comes to big games.
We were gassed, turned off, and playing slow.
Take that into a knockout game against a team playing with a ton of “heart” and 40,000 fans behind them and their’s your result!
I look at Mandzukic as our barometer.
When his not dashing around like his crazy self you know the energy in the team is down.
No need for Kovac to go after washed up players in the media. He is better than that. But, I am not shocked. He and his bro did go to the media back in 2006 and shared locker room workings.
@Vatrena – I was worried about the Kovac hire thinking he didn’t have experience. But was fully behind the hire. I would have never thought he’d be stupid enough to keep playing Pranjic. Even in the friendly against Australia he showed he’s garbage. And I thought Pranjic would be a positive because of his offense. After that Cameron game, only a fool would play him again. Vrsaljko showed much more against Brazil!! And then he takes out Vrsaljko and moves Pranjic back. Where is the logic in that.
Lets hope that either Kovac learned a lot, or Pranjic retires from the team.
As far as this thread goes i’m sure Dejan will improve playing in the champions league, if that makes any change to his Vatreni prformance we’ll just have to wait and see.
@Vatrena
pretty sure ziva didn’t say “giving 20 minutes to young guns doesn’t do shit for experience.” nor did he mean that. But i’m glad you’re trying to participate.
This morning I read Kovac’s comment regarding Vukojevic and it made me scratch my head…he said: “Nije igrao ni kod Bilića ni kod Štimca, a ni u klubu. I sad sam ja kriv!?”
so then why did you take a player you don’t trust and you knew you wouldn’t play?
@noheart
Nope I don’t agree with everything, but I stand on kovac exactly where I stood before the tournament. It takes time. I’m optimistic and definitely don’t think we have to redo the whole team. You don’t bench your veteran goalkeeper that you had all through qualifications. He had one bad game against Brazil, where I thought he still made some good saves. Cameroon he did well and then Mexico, the whole team laid an egg. The players looked tired. Long seasons in Europe, it is what it is. Modric played hurt and I don’t think rakitic played bad, sorry he didn’t score a screamer but he was all over the pitch. I agree with ziva giving 20 minutes to young guns doesn’t do shit for experience.
@Rob I
I agree, we showed everybody how to play against Brasil, hopefuly we can get consistent tournament together next time.
@Ziva
Don’t be stupid…
Sometimes I wonder if you guys realize what you write……play the kids for 20 minutes for them to gain experience…….really???? Not every game is scripted in advance like you think. What if we are down a goal in 70th minute, do we bring in the “kids”…
Ziva- welcome back…I hope you had a good trip!
I was certainly fooled by Kovac. I’m not saying I dislike him but I can tell you I felt he was being stubborn with his insisting on playing Pranjic, not trying Rakitic to play in a more foreward role against Mexico and for eventually allowing the team to get exposed for a 10 minute span vs Mexico…that was very painful to watch!
I’ll support Kovac for a little while longer and hopefully he never allows for those same mistakes.
as per our LB, I hope all of you that pissed all over Strinic can now see he is the best solution we have.
@ARMADA87 – if people get hard ons, it’s because Kovac learned. Which would be a good thing. It would also mean, maybe just maybe the players were embarassed and actually will start giving more heart. No reason Modric and Rakitic couldn’t have taken over that game against Mexico. Everyone was on Rakitic’s nuts when back flipped the ball passed a defender for Sevilla. I didn’t see anything close to that in the world cup.
I believe Rakitic was the one that set up the goal against Mexico. And that was because he moved up. Now who’s to blame for that? Could Rakitic have done that where he was, or should have Kovac played him closer behind Mandzukic?
@Velebit – agree with that on the players. Rakitic and Modric seem like they should be playing in the North American tournament and not the world cup.
Kovac deserves blame for Pranjic. Too bad he wasn’t knocked out of the world cup after that injury against Australia. We might be talking differently if that would have been the case.
@ Vatrena Cast
spot on… watch if we win a few quals in a row how the tide will turn again and everyone will get hardons for him all over again
Rob I and No Heart for Country
Valid points. Funny how these homers say Kovac is shit, blame him and blame the savez. Talk about delusional homers.
The players were awful and it showed. Some were more concerned with securing club contracts. Rakitic and Modric were awful. This team needed a bit of that Simunic love for Hrvatska. Play with some pride, don’t back down.
Sad to say the least.
@Vatrena cast – so do you fully support Kovac’s line up and tactics this world cup?
@dinamo Dennis
Spot on!
Give them minutes and experience, it will prepare them for when the time comes.
Just like subusic should have been playing instead of that shit cunt pletikosa. All he did was slow the progression phase.
People on this page are the most bipolar people I have ever met. First you love and want to suck kovac off, then he has a few bad games, now you blame him for everything. Now once he wins a few games again you all will want to have his babies again. Same thing happened with stimac, nobody liked him then he beats Serbia and half of you think he is the greatest thing since tudjman, and the loses and everyone thinks he’s milos again.
I think when people say play the young guys they mean give them minutes, not necessarily start them. I get that these guys aren’t regulars at there club but id still rather see Radosevic, Jedvaj, Rebic, ect come on in the last 20 or start against teams like Malta.
Liverpool is good for him since he is one of the Homosex guys on the eam.
@Rijecanin – Is it fair weather fans or finally being fans seeing who and what the players are??
Keep making excuses for them when they play for the national team and go suck their dicks when it comes to how great they play for their club teams. I could care less what club they play for. How much of a transfer fee they get. I want the national team making a run.
Some interesting comments here – I just thought we played too much like a lot of Croatian teams – TOO SLOW – I also noticed how teams that usually do well have strong defences – My personal view is that we need a new goalkeeper, two new fullbacks (ie not Srna and Pranjic) and I would probably get rid of Corluka – for me he is not strong enough defensively when required against better teams and for a tall guy not good enough in the air – We need speed and energy – I would keep Olic as an impact player – he creates confusion and runs – good for 20 mins or so ( plus he still scores occasionally)
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/10895579/World-Cup-2014-The-Croatian-public-believe-in-Niko-Kova-but-opinion-can-turn-quickly-with-failure-in-Brazil.html
Interesting article – take what you will from it.
@Rijecanin – Hold on, Croatia played against a 10- man Cameroon and strolled past them while Mexico had a hard fought game against Brazil right before the two sides met each other..
Whose position would you want to be in coming into the last match?
Even Kovac never blamed the prior venue for the loss – that’s ridiculous. There was 5 days between games.
http://gol.dnevnik.hr/clanak/svjetsko-prvenstvo-brazil-2014/video-za-narod-su-oni-sampioni-pogledajte-docek-kolumbijaca—343077.html
You never have to worry about any Central or South American team playing without heart.
Look at this reception for the Colombians. Teams that play without heart never get homecommings like this.
Wow..
Im glad I dont have to go to a battle with some of the fair weather fans here,
One loss and you clowns are crying like babies.
We were not getting points from Brazil in the opening game, if you think otherwise, give your head a shake, We beat Cameroon 4-0, i dont care if it was with 10 men, we did what we had to do, we got the win and we scored some goals.
As for the Mexico game, no team won aftre having played in Manaus. In this World Cup, the four teams who have played there (Italy, England, Croatia, Cameroon) The conditions are exhausting, especially with only a few days of recovery between games. The travel is a factor as well, with teams losing training days because they have to fly thousands of miles to the jungle.
Records of teams after they played in Manaus.
England Loss and Tie
Italy Loss and Loss
Croatia Loss
Cameroon Loss
USA Loss
Switzerland Loss
Portugal Win
Thats 1 Win, 7 Losses and 1 Tie, Honduras did not have another game. All those teams had more experienced coaches yet they faired no better
we can’t be fucked for a long time, i can’t handle this… lets start a fund for a coach… im only partially joking
http://bostonherald.com/sports/revolution_soccer/soccer/2014/06/croatia_confident_it_can_crack_mexico_defense
….now listen to him before the Mexico match.
So, before the match it’s “We have players in better leagues, so, we should win”
afterwards? “Told you that Mexico is a better team”.
Damn, I think Mamic actually makes more sense than he does.
http://bostonherald.com/sports/revolution_soccer/soccer/2014/06/niko_kovac_expects_to_remain_as_croatia_coach
Stimac part II
a lot of people keep saying play the young kids for the qualifiers. Well, the young kids first need to get playing time at the club level to justify a call up.
If we play the likes of Jedvaj, Radosevic, Halilovic, etc at the start of qualifying and these guys are still getting no playing time at the club level, we will get our asses handed to us. Halilovic we wont see until he gets called up tot he main Barca team. I really doubt we will see him while he is at Barca B.
No need for Second Choice Sertich. He doesn’t even meet the FIFA requirements. Dude is not a hrvat, not even close. Only reason he even applied for cro paperwork was so he could play for the repka. Before Cro even approached him, he had no connection to Cro.
@Ivica……I like Kovac and I have aid I think he will be a good coach one day, but my biggest question going into the WC was his experience. He had none. Naive. And then he is instructing his players how to speak with the media. Sounds like someone who wants total control. These are grown men and they don’t need and should not be instructed on how to speak with the media. I’ve yet to see a reporter or journalist won or lose a game.
lol so 3 points get us in second round of euro.. sweet play for 3 ties… we got this
Agreed with everything everyone is saying about Euro 2016. If they get bounced in round of 16 it’s a huge failure.
This current group of players weren’t seen as failures 6 years ago in Euro tourney. But then again, were they playing for a bigger pay check back then??
If Pranjic gets called to the team for the qualifiers, it’s not worth watching this team. Kovac will show that he’s learned nothing (should have learned after the Cameroon game).
Here’s a question. I know everyone’s said the players have played out of position. I call BS on that as they are “world class players” and should be able to over come that. But that being said, to help push Rakitic and Modric into a more offensive position, would you be more open to Sertich joining the team now? Seems like Vukojevic would helped push those guys into their more natural positions. Then again, even if he did play, he’d have to cover for Pranjic’s stupid ass and would still force everyone to pay more defensively.
How quick are you guys to turn on our own.
After the Brazil game he was tactical genius and now he is a loser. We ran out of legs against Mexico, how hard was it to see that.
Give him some time you pessimistic clowns.
Grow up
@Bobby V
Yea, he seems to have that typical Balkan arrogance.
I wonder if Volker Finke actually meant anything by it when he said: “Za vas je Kovač njemački trener, ali za mene on je tipični Balkanac!”
@Ziva
I thought you were a Kovac supporter. 😉
Why not just put some young players in we have not played well since 2008 it is a fact this generation is a flop in my eyes since 2008 our igra has been shit and its time for fresh blood to be introduced.
We should remember, Kovac got the gig for one reason and one reason only……his connections with Mamic. Being kumovi sure helps.
FIFA/UEFA should eliminate the 16 months it takes to qualify for the Euros and just invite everyone.
Let the minnows show up early and have them knock each other out until there is 4 of them to join the top 20 who automatically qualify from FIFA’s list.
Then you can have the World Cup every three years instead of four.
@Ivica – agree with everything you said in the last 5 paragraphs about Kovac.
This guy is revealing himself to be an ass way before Stimac ever did.
if Ko-fuck still stuck on the command ..
like bring lousy player ,, > and we can go advance to Final
think .. of how many score did we make .
2-0 to Malta and 2-0 to Azerbaizan -> isn’t not impresive
with suck formation like he did previously ..
we can make through without problem on this qualification
but we need more energetic. . and attractive football ..
we need something new like –>THe Younger star , ,
we are totally boring for old and suck ..
In the new Euro 2016 format, a team can have one win and two losses, yet STILL progress.
3 points can easily get you through.
For me, the only way Kovac can redeem himself is with a Quarterfinal berth at Euro 2016.
If we top the group ahead of Italy with at least a win and a draw against the Italians, I will feel a lot better too…but tournament play is what really matters (as I can see many top teams coasting in these qualifiers due to the expanded format).
In two years from now, I don`t wanna see Suker praising Kovac for our success after finishing 2nd in qualifying, then getting bounced in the watered down Round of 16 phase at the Euros. That`s not a success. That`s a failure.
In a 24-team euro 2016, to make it out of the group and be amongst the 16 knockout stage teams…is not some amazing feat, nice try Kovac.
Sucess in Euro 2016 is making the quarter finals.
@mkez00
Kovac has it very easy for Euro 2016.
Top two teams qualify automatically. Aside from Italy, both Norway and Bulgaria are heading into their worst years in recent history and are going through a major rebuilding period. It will be impossible to miss out on an automatic berth.
Also, the Euro 2016 knockout phase is going to start with a Round of 16. This means that 16 out of the 24 teams will qualify for the knockout round.
Think about that for a second….
This means that only 8 teams out of the 24 don’t move on. So, teams are MORE likely to progress than not.
Making it to the Round of 16 at Euro2016 will be easier than a team making the playoffs in the NBA Eastern Conference, lol.
Euro is only a joke with 24 team >> worst competitive
and make qulification look easier..
lets play for the younger ,, and make them have experience !!
if Ko-Fuck still bring old . > just make me furious/
Try to Play younger on qualificatio N<
Kovac is in a great position for a new coach:
1) Got the team before a very winnable playoff where they were pretty much at rock bottom
2) No expectations in the WC because of lack of experience
3) Heading into a diluted Euro championships where qualifying should be a lot easier
I guess we won’t be able to really judge him positively unless we get out of the group stages at the Euros and make some noise. Anything less would be a fail I think.
You can black the agents from the facility, but that doesn’t mean the agents and players are not in contact before and after training sessions. Tough to block the players from doing business regarding the future and potential pay day.
I just wonder if Kovac is still advising the players on how to speak with the media. Geez….
The important thing is not like some player have their new club, but what about how this futile resistance –> Ko-Fuck OUT

Even if we somehow beat Mexico. There is no way we get past Holland, who are led by the Dutch master Louis Van Gaal. This guy would totally out-fox the inexperienced Kovac.
To go far in a tourney, you need a good experienced coach, which we didn’t have.
@dannyj
Niko Kovac has no choice but to be committed. If he were to resign, then he’s pretty much written his career off as a coach. I doubt he made that many millions as a gritty player in the Bundesliga. This career path is his future paycheck.
This was a great opportunity to launch his coaching career, but a short and underachieving stint like this would prevent him from continuing into a club coaching career like Bilic managed to do after he left. I think that this is his goal.
It’s good to see that he finally gave an interview, but after reading what he said, he STILL doesn’t seem to get it.
Kovac actually claims that we played extremely well against Cameroon and the first half of Mexico. He actually thinks that it was going very well against Mexico and that it only went bad for us because we pushed too far forward in the second half.
Is he serious?!
The score should have been 2-0 Mexico after that first half, and we only registered our first shot late in the second half (so I’m not sure what he means by things ‘going well’). Also, Mexico didn’t score their first goal because we pushed forward. But when we finally did push forward, we scored. Someone needs to send him a copy of this game.
Niko also seems to think that, aside from Blazevic, he achieved no less than any other Croatian National Team coach.
This is just straight up delusional.
Dude gets one win against a 10-man Cameroon (and a home win against Iceland) and he thinks his achievements are on par with guys like Slaven Bilic and Cico Kranjcar? Guys who eliminated England, beating Sweden twice at their strongest, beating out Germany and making it to the quarters in Euro2008?
Then he goes on to call out Poklepović for criticizing him, and claims that Poklepović begged to come to Brazil as an advisor with him. Very classy.
I dunno. I want to believe that there’s hope, but he has to give me something here. I just can’t believe that he doesn’t get it.
Niko Kovač fucked up this World Cup (to se zna).
He’ll get a chance to redeem himself by not only qualifying for Euro 2016, but must actually achieve something there.
If he chokes again, then he was a failed experiment (and we move on to the next one).
NK expected too much from this core of guys clearly the team looked to stale and no excitement what so ever playing Olic on the wings was a joke the Lb was a joke and no dm killed croatia and so did Pletikosa. thats my opinion i am glad he said he was wrong and fixes the mistakes and builds a mix of youth and vets i hope thats what he does.
http://brazil.jutarnji.hr/kovac-ekskluzivno–pogrijesio-sam-protiv-meksika–ali-nisam-zasluzivo-ovakvo-pljuvanje–/1204281/
well he sounds like he is committed… you know like we all blame kovac for some of it, surely his tactics were less then optimal thinking back and actually thinking then while they were happening but its still up to the players to grab the bull by the horn and step up. yes we are not superior to many of the teams but the quality is enough to pull out a win against any team in the world we know this
maybe the opportunity wasn’t there but its hard to remember any of these long ball passes that rakitic is known for in spain… kept waiting for that break through
im glad we at least have this site for support group… it sucks to be beaten like we did against brazil but it sucks to be outplayed and fall apart when its there for the taking
It was pretty messed up to hear about these guys negotiating contracts DURING their preparation period for the World Cup.
I thought Kovač blocked the player’s agents from entering their training facilities, did he? Or was that just bullshit?
well guys i guess maybe the fight has gone with the war generation… sad and disgusting… many people bag on olic but that dude leaves it all on the field… but this is more and more common, sport is more business then pride now
Where was the pride? The Mexicans showed their passion and pride for their country, our star midfielders looked lethargic and unwillingly to attack and set up the shooters. Its ridiculous, grow some balls, fight and attack. Only if Modric and Rakitic had the heart of some the commenters on this site.
@noheartforthecountry. I cldnt agree more rakatic was almost joyful they got eliminated when they did cus 1 day later he posts barca jersey selfie ….none of our players legible a shit bout wc money is I club football
We need that ZAR naboj like in 90s and early 00s this has been terrible HNS SDP HDZ PEDERI SJEBALI STE DRZAVU I SPORT.
2016 New faces croatia team Subasic Vargic Stipica/Kalinic-AMilic HMilic at LB CBS Leskovic Datkovic Jedvaj wings Halilovic Tomecak Pjaca Catkas Rebic.CF Kramaric Perica Santini Livaja(i know hes sick in head).
Fuck all of them. Making sure they get sold and get a raise is more important for majority of those guys then fighting for their country.
It’s a shame, we the fans are idiots that follow them and spend our hard earned money to follow them at major tournaments.
He only agreed to move their because he thought they were an ambitious club.
Selling Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, and possibly Schneiderlin, plus losing their coach, is NOT ambitious.
Lovren to Liverpool.
Vrsaljko to Milan.
Mandzukic to Atletico.
