Stipe Miocic is now a UFC legend.
Not only did he break the unstoppable Francis Ngannou, who was on a 10-fight win streak, but he successfully defended the UFC heavyweight crowd for a record third straight time.
Now at 35 years old and a baby on the way; what’s next for Stipe Miocic?
Who knows how much is left in the tank but the only heavyweight (worth mentioning) that Miocic never stepped into the octagon with is Cain Velasquez, who is currently ranked as the #4 heavyweight in the UFC.
Earlier today, Stipe’s father, Bojan Miocic, said that his son’s next title defense should be in front of 50,000 people at Poljud in Split, CroatiaWeek reports.
Who knows what the future holds for Miocic, but he definitely showed what he was made of Saturday night in Boston. He withstood two big punches from Ngannou in the first round and wore him down throughout the fight, taking him to the ground multiple times and keeping his forearm to Ngannou’s neck.
Much of the UFC universe focused on Ngannou’s loss rather than Stipe’s win. Ngannou (was supposed to win) and was supposed to be the new face of the UFC heavyweight class.
But here’s what UFC commentator Joe Rogan had to say about Miocic after the match:
“Last night @stipemiocicufc put on a master class of how to defeat a bigger, stronger heavyweight and cemented his position as the baddest man on the planet. Through his movement, wrestling, striking, and sheer grit and determination he was able to turn back the challenge of a one man wrecking machine in @francisngannou and in the process become the first man in history to defend the UFC heavyweight title 3 times. All this while working as a firefighter in Cleveland. What he did last night was nothing short of extraordinary and it was an honor and a privilege to be able to call the fight. I truly hope people realize and appreciate how incredible this guy is.”
^
He left with Denis.
Where’s the Croatian Crippler?
Why did JDS 2 and Overeem make more money than Stipe when they fought against him? Weasel asshole Dana White.
Imagine if Stipe quit his day job to focus 100% on his fighting career.
“[Miocic] doesn’t say nothing like bad things. He’s a nice guy, for sure. But, 100 percent: When I fought him before, I lost to myself. I lost to me. Because of a lot of things. This time – 100 percent, he’s a good fighter. But 100 percent, I beat him.”
I agree with Werdum, the part where he says he lost himself, not that he’ll win the next fight.
It was Werdum’s stupidity that lost him the first fight and it does seem by what he says here that he underestimated Miocic.
I think Werdum understands now that Miocic is a good fighter which he may not have thought the first time, I mean he beat one trick pony Mark Hunt and no chin Arlovski to get his shot, while Werdum just beat Cain and may have thought everyone else was easy.
@Maminjo
If they do meet again do you believe Werdum will have the same “good game plan” he had in the first fight?
@maminjo
wow i legit did not know werdum was pals with cro cop
Miočić vs Werdum rematch at Poljud would be awesome.
Stipe fighting in front of a massive home crowd the same way Werdum did in Brazil.
Werdum wouldn’t be a stranger either, having lived in Croatia for a few years, knows how to say a few words, and runs a school in Zagreb.
Seems like the right thing to do, but the UFC won’t have a card this big in Split.
On a side note. Of course fighting is already big nuff in cro cause of cro cop and before that the tiger but this miocic wave will encourage more kids to get into it
Wouldn’t be surprised if we see a couple more stars in few years time
I forget who said it but peeps forget bout miletic”h” all cro blood bonafide bad ass in octagon and amazing coach
The future should be bright for cro MMA. Stil waiting for a Serb though
Let’s face it dana white just does what he wants. Prob part of why miocic feels disrespected by him. I’m sure there are many other reasons to boot. He seems like a straight up dude Just chalk him up as another person who would love to smash dana
We have been following here since he started. Very proud of him…. fighting at poljud… that would be so cool As long as there is not a swastika burnt on field would be awesome
@ Truth – Aside from from ripping on Iggy I think most people would agree with your post. Miocic fought tough opponents for whatever the heavyweight division currently is. Ngannou KO’d the same 2 glass chins Miocic did and the rest were duds. They pull this shit all the time. Rhonda Rousey is the best example of that until reality caught up with her.
Shut up iggy. You thought he’d lose. Get out of here and stick with youtube soccer videos.
I always thought Francis got an express route for the title fight. The whole division under him should scrap it out for a title fight.
If Francis really wants a rematch he will get destroyed. I thought Stipe held back on his ground and pound on him.
Maybe Dana can hype up some goon who can hit as hard as a F350 going 60 mph next time. Clown.
Stipe can enjoy time with his family. That’s what’s next.
Imo as to why they promoted ngannou..I’m thinking “investors had a splitting image of Mike tyson…every fight mike was in ..sold big time.He fought washed up plug thugs and they made gazillions off every tyson tv fight.Tyson grossed 300 million by himself and was left feeding pigeons in a small bungalow house ..after his fall from grace…if that’s true.So ngannou might have been the carbon copy of mike..money wise..imo.
Yeah good to see Joe giving that praise, it’s well deserved. Dude is an abso legend. As i said in another post, he really takes the best aspects of Americanism and also being Hrvati and combines them to get the best of both worlds.
Kinda makes me wonder, can we take all Hrvati and raise them in America so they overcome mental midgetry? Heheh
