What a 12 month period it has been for 27 year-old Croatian striker Mario Mandžukić; now dubbed the ‘The Baron’ in Germany for his aerial prowess. Before even moving to Bayern Munich from Wolfsburg in the summer, Mandžukić finished Euro 2012 with a tournament-high three goals as Croatia missed out on the quarterfinals after only earning one point from games against eventual Euro 2012 finalists, Spain and Italy. After the summer break, Mandžukić went on a tear with his new Bavarian club, replacing German international Mario Gomez (due to injury) in the starting XI and taking the early scoring lead in the young Bundesliga season.
As Bayern Munich absolutely walked through the Bundesliga in juggernaut-like fashion, losing only once while drawing four times, being crowned German champions with five games remaining in the season, Mandžukić contributed in great fashion in his freshman season with Bayern. He would finish tied fourth in Bundesliga scoring with 15 goals, with a majority of them coming off headers. The star-studded Bayern midfield of Schweinsteiger, Robben and Ribery supplied sublime service the entire campaign, but Mandžukić came through, dominating the six-yard box against every goalie in Germany.
If that wasn’t good enough for you Mandžukić cynics, he would score three Champions League goals for Bayern Munich this season as the German giants would claim their fifth European championship in club history. His most notable goal of the season, and of his career, will undoubtedly be remembered in the Champions League Final, when he opened up the scoring against Borussia Dortmund in the 2-1 win.
Bayern now find themselves one match away from completing their first ever ‘treble’ in team history. They have already locked up the Bundesliga and Champions League crown, but only Stuttgart stand in their way of the DFB Pokal title. The two clubs face off against each other in Berlin this Saturday (2PM ET) for the right to be named German Cup champions. Bayern is the heavy favorite to pull off the treble, but what will happen after this dream season ends?
We know that former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola will be taking over the reigns at Bayern in the summer, but what will happen to the surrounding cast? Mario Gotze is leaving Dortmund for Allianz Arena but what about Mandžukić? It has been rumored that Borussia Dortmund will give Polish striker Robert Lewandoski to Bayern in return for Mario Mandžukić and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Would this be a good move for ‘Super’ Mario or should he stay put at Bayern?
I’m getting so fired up for this match against Scotland.
If they thought the English were cruel in putting down their Rebellions, it’s gonna be a hell of lot worse in Maksimir.
Vatreni must use the scorched earth policy, and smash them for at least 4 goals.
croatia will crush scotland. 5-1 with a cheepy goal by scottland
@ Horvat
In general I agree with respect and humility.
But Bilic told Ireland you suck and we out beat them 3-1, and that was the first game of Euro ’12.
Ciro his happy to get a mike infront of him and does not speak in official capacity.
Olic was being honest. We need to come out Vatreni and put on operation Storm!
This maybe one of those times that the honest approach works to focus us to play our best. If Scotland use for it fuel to pump up their bag pipes, jebi ga. Our boys know GD will be crucial in this group for an automatic birth to Brazil.
It also seems like Belgium are due to lay an egg and Serbia are due to produce a result.
@ Antwerp
I like the attacking power.
Kranjcar? Haven’t seen him sprint 20 meters since Portsmouth. Jebi ga.
3-4-3 looks good.
@Chuckles,
Good one
@poglavnik,
Im with you
@Denis
Whoops! That was me.
So sad… Culture and nature are taking a back seat to the almight dollar everywhere. Too many morons are influenced by right wing propaganda. I used to look forward to retiring in Croatia but with the EU coming I think I’m gonna have to find somewhere a little more off the grid.
@Denis
That reminds me of a joke I heard.
What is the difference between a radical Muslim and an average Muslim.
The radical Muslim wants to kill you. The average Muslim wants the radical Muslim to kill you
@Marko,
I wouldnt be surprised if Sammir starts. papa Mamic needs a new car.
@Mr Black,
Croatia tried with 0.00001 % dui’s and that failed miserably.
Wait until the EU steps in.
@Jack,
The muslim world looks at Turkey like bitches. The Turks are not “harcore” muslims in their eyes. I think in Turkey alcohol is “limited”.
@Elvis,
They are still people. Anyone that thinks Croatia’s government sucks, take a look at what the turks are doing to their own people.
@Bobby V – Pens have been not nly outplayed, but are just shooting themselves in the foot every night. You got me on this one, but I still disagree when you say they’re not built for playoffs. A team getting this far in the post season, and scoring as many goals as they have so far is certainly playoff worthy, not to mention they won the Cup three seasons ago (with more or less the same team they have now), and against Detroit. But… their chances are looking pretty low for survival. I’m not only heart broken, but shocked. They had Boston’s number this year. There’s still a chance for coming back, but looks like I was wrong here. You heard me say it.
@Elvis:
I am not a tough guy at all.
You live in NJ too? I will buy you a beer one day.
@Jack
Like you?

@ the article regarding the Blazevic & the Scots
CIROOOOOOO MAJSTOREEEEEEEEEE hahah
@Jack
Actually Europe and white people were attacked and colonized first. Learn your history fool.
Who cares about Turkey? Those people are responsible for so much grief in South Eastern Europe. The Islamists will crack down and it will be Jihad as usual there.
One thing I liked about Bilic is that he always showed respect for his opponents.
A few years ago, before Cro played Malta, Bilic said something along the lines of; “we are preparting for Malta as though we are playing Spain”.
I don’t like it when Croatian coaches, players or media start decaring themselves winners before any game. The better team doesn’t always win.
It’s better to stay humble and show respect to all opponents. Arrogance and overconfidence has led to the fall of many.
I though alcohol was banned or limited in most Muslim countries.
Denis,
Imagine someone would ban alcohol in Croatia. We would hang him!
Not to start any controversy, but i would be surprised if Sammir wasn’t part of the first 11. With all the talk about GD, Sammir is defiantly better than Vukojevic to help score goals

Check out life in Turkey:
“Things are not well in my country. Our president, with his power from a very doubtable election started to change our country in a very negative way. He doesn’t care about human rights, nature nor art. The censorship is everywhere. The media is with them so nothing gets shown. He’s banning alcohol. He’s banning independent media and art. He destroys the national cinemas and makes malls. Istanbul which is one of the greates cities like Prague is full of ugly malls now. Making those malls earns them money because they hire their people. The nature in the city is destroyed and malls come out of those places.
So in the end a movement started. He wanted to destroy a park full of trees in the middle of Istanbul and we said no and we went to the park. His response was with chemical gas. For the first time in my life i felt the fear of dying because the police was not acting to stop us they were acting to harm us. The gas they use, nobody knows the content. What it will do to us. I’ve breathed it many many times during these past week. I try to shoot everything with my 550d with a 50 mm lens and i will make videos out of those. The big news is i opened a facebook account which maybe would be the last thing id do. Because now it’s time to make the contact, make the things known. with the media that is corrupted it’s not possible.
im a bit nervous so this might be not a very smart email. what i want from you is to please share everything about this movement. about the tortures and the beating of the police. our president is not ok with alcohol. he married to his wife when he was 30 and she was 15, he’s ok with this. they dont care anything about the women. but they try to act modern to the western society. so people please do share everything you see and make your friends make everybody know aobut this. i need this, we need this and you need this.
-Friend from Turkey”

@Colin – So, back to my original point that you jumped all over – The Penguins are not built for playoff hockey. 9 goals to 1. They wouldn’t even make the playoffs in the Western Conference.
Colin’s quote to me a few days ago: “Bobby V – it was one game. Don’t need to watch for 47 years to know what I’m talking about.”

@ Svakom.
Can someone please suggest a squad wirh 3 subs, plus formation, that can create and produce a 4-0 result against Scotland.
I need to see an offensive explosion for 90+ minutes.
I have never heard of one of Scotlandts players.
We need to dominate on Friday.
Hvala.
@Cousin Bilo:
The US and Europe are two different animals. America has been mixed from the colonial days.
I can’t understand why European countries want immigration.
England and France especially. They are giving their countries and cultures away.
I’m excited to see about how our goalkeeper situation plays out. I’m not saying he’s the answer, but Dominik Livakovic. I think he’s 17, has already been called the “best” gk in the HNL. Plays for NK Zagreb and watched him a lot this year. He should be getting plenty of playing time in the minor leagues this year, and should develop nicely over the next few years I hope. Keep an eye out for him.
@Bobby V – Crosby could go out there with a pink dress and a bra on and read poetry to other players for all I care, but if he puts up points like he can and SHOULD, he’s still the greatest player out there right now. As for Cooke? He’s fine. A game misconduct for that boarding call was harsh. One of the Boston players but an even dirtier hit on Neal and got called for boarding but wasn’t ejected.
As for your faith in the Western Conf… Gotta disagree with ya. Pittsburgh or Boston, either one of them, I think will come out on top of Chicago… or even LA.
Go Croatia!!!!
LOL….i thought of this website when I saw this. I’m sure some of you will end up signing this petition!
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/teach-public-school-children-truth-anti-racist-code-word-anti-white/yS5SB6hd
1/3 of scotland’s called up defenders wont be able to play. Croatia better score 7.
I saw that……I would drop them from the national side for life.
@ ziva . i thought you would find it funny that scotland has two wedding boys to share stories with adrijasevic. two of their players will supposedly miss the croatia game b/c of weddings since they are already eliminated from competition
@ Colin – Your Penguins might still make it a series against Boston, but, no way would they have ever come this far out of the Western Conference, where, in my opinion, 6 of the top 8 teams in the NHL are from.
It’s the sole reason the Penguins were averaging 4.3 goals per game and have 3 of the top scorers in the playoffs. No way that happens if they are in the West. The Bruins most resemble teams like Anaheim, Detroit and Vancouver – it’s why the Pens will have trouble.
Pittsburgh defense gives up way too many odd-man rushes and the goaltender is suspect. Cooke is an idiot, and what is up with Crosby? Tries to start something with a Boston’s goalie? Rask was asked what Crosby said to him. He replied “He said that I’m playing good” – great answer. Then Crosby starts with Chara and goes and hides behind the ref.
Forget about trying to show you are tougher or it will be a shorter series than you think.
Penguins should win tonight, but, can’t see them winning the series.
@MatesicMethod “Modric is world-class and is adjustment to Madrid had a lot to do with his delayed transfer and the Madrid/Mourinho beef in the locker room.
When a fellow Hrvat is world-class in anything I will defend it the tilt.
The way Modric was getting in the press was BS and as form is temporary and class is constant.
Rakitic has been a good player for us and we will need him to step up against Scotland like he did against Wales.”
Well said! I agree 100%
We still have Vedran Runje.
Ok, true…..
But, I wasn’t critical of Modric. I was describing his play over the first 3-4 months of the season.
As for Dario Saric……I think he can be a real good player based on what I have seen. He dominated his age group in Europe, excelled at international play, but he needs to get out of Cro ASAP. This year has been a disaster for him. The contract situation that made him miss the ealry months of the year and then the off the off the court sranje with his parents and getting busted for drinking and driving.
@Ziva
Your my guy and I enjoy your posts for the most part.
“I judge things without bias,” a little naive my friend. We are all have our bias which is human nature. We just need to be responsible for them.
Modric is world-class and is adjustment to Madrid had a lot to do with his delayed transfer and the Madrid/Mourinho beef in the locker room.
When a fellow Hrvat is world-class in anything I will defend it the tilt.
The way Modric was getting in the press was BS and as form is temporary and class is constant.
Rakitic has been a good player for us and we will need him to step up against Scotland like he did against Wales.
We will also see about Dario Saric who can and will play in the NBA.
Not critical of you but once in a while have to hold you accountable for some of the posts that can be a bit unfair towards our people.
not true……I never said any of that or hoped for any of that. I thought he would get his act together. All I said was that his play was below expectations in the first few months of the season. Where they not???? I know there were some valid reasons for it. But, his play was not good in the first half of the season. Are you going to argue he played up to his level. Surely, you wont.
Nobody was singing Modric’s praises more than me after how he played agianst Spain at the Euros.
So, I said nothing wrong. I judge things without bias, without the homer glasses.
So, if you want to be critical of me, go ahead. But, at least know what you are talking about.
@ Ziva
Istina!
“Remember folks, judge things by what you see, not by what you hope happens.”
Like watching Modric rise to the challenge and be the WORLD-CLASS player he is despite the Mourinho/Madrid unrest.
All the while you were doubting him and his skills OR were you “hoping” he failed?
Ziva Negativna!
Stay thirsty my friend.
I’d love to know where all the Delac supporters are now. A few years ago they were all over here saying he was going to be great. And my only argument was, how can you make a claim about someone possibly being great but never seeing them play.
Remember folks, judge things by what you see, not by what you hope happens.
@Davor re: Stipe through Euro 2016. He is a goalie, so maybe he could still play at WC 2018 as he won’t yet be 40.
re: next goalie after Stipe, the u17 goalie Maric is supposed to be good so maybe he will pan out. He also has good height at 190cm which is 6′ 2.5″, and at 17 he may still grow some more.
http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/marko-maric/profil/spieler_183793.html
I mean, I think we’re due to produce a world class keeper in the coming years… We’ve produced world class everything else, but since ’91, the best keepers we’ve had have been Ladic and Stipe. Hell, aside from a few nobodys here and there (Where are they now: Vedran Runje) those are the only longterm keepers we’ve ever had…
Just found this online. Funny stuff towards the end
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5B6eBAuhvEY
Keeper is definitely our biggest question mark for the future. If Stipe stays fit he could possibly make it up to Euro 2016, hopefully by then someone steps up to the plate. Keeper is crucial- Ladic had a good world cup in ’98 and that was it, he cost us making Euro 2000 with his mistakes against Yugoslavia.
Would be great if we could unearth a deadly finisher too, a real clinical striker.
@Bjorn Brog……true, but those fuckups in qualifying and the screw ups Gabric had when given the chance almost cost us. Remember, going into that last day of qualifying for the 98 WC we needed help to get in and we got it, plus we benefited froma firendly referee call in the other game. Once we got to the WC, ladic played like a world-class keeper. We got lucky on that one.
With Pletikosa, he has always played well for the repka. I can only recall two real bad mistakes during his time with the repka.
I’m curious to see what comes out of Serb Subasic. I haven’t watched him play at all in France and it will be interesting to see if he remain Monaco’s #1 GK with them back in the French 1. Division. Seems like the rumors of Valdez going to Monaco have died down. Serb Subasic’s play at Hajduk wasn’t anything great, but Gk is the one position where a player does make drastic changes. Who knows, maybe weven GPS Kelava can come around in Spain. Although, I’m still not conviced he is going to Spain to eb the starter at GK.
We finished 3rd at France 98′ with a very average keeper in Ladic. He made some mistakes during that qualifying cycle, notably versus Bosnia and Denmark that could have proved costly. Thankfully we still got through via the playoff with Ukraine and the rest is history.
He got hot during the WC but aside from that tourney he wasn’t considered anything above an average keeper. I don’t think he ever even played outside of Croatia in a notable league.
You can still make a serious run in a tourney without a solid keeper but you need some luck and excellent team play infront of the man between the pipes. See Greece EURO 2004 and Turkey Japan/SK 2002 (3rd place winners).
Aside from our thin defender corps, keeper will be another big question mark in the coming years. I don’t see Kelava, Delac, Subasic, Tomic, Kresic, Kalinic, Antolovic, etc. really taking the reigns over from Stipe anytime soon. I haven’t seen enough of him at Verona, but I’m not even sure Rijeka’s and the U-21’s top keeper prospect, Simon Sluga, will become NT keeper material.
I hope you’re all saying your oce nase and going to church on Sundays and begging bog that Stipe doesn’t suffer some major injury anytime soon, otherwise no matter how great of a midfield or how good Mandza is, we aren’t making any serious runs in a tournament with the likes of a Kelava or Delac between the pipes.
Delac might be worse than GPS Kelava (hope he brings the instrument with him to Spain). Just look at the first goal Portugal scored today and that will tell you everything you need to know about Delac.
@Ante B…..just shows you how bad Kerum fucked things up that the people in Split woke up from their decade-long nap and elected the SDP.
Seen that @ Rob I, might even record the add hahaha, thats the secomd assuies abroad hes done now, first was while at milwaukee, expect to see a segment on all his cro memorabilia. Fkn legend!
Just saw an preview for a show in Austalia (ESPN) called Aussies abroad. The promo was for an interview with Bogut that is due to be aired this week and in the background their is this massis Grb during the entire interview.
The guy is a legend.
Bobby V – it was one game. Don’t need to watch for 47 years to know what I’m talking about.
Much like the U-17’s, our U-21″s couldnt finish for shit today against Portugal. Lost 2-0. Delac reminds me a little of Kelava. Just a big body that seems to be clueless at times and gifted Portugal an early goal. I did not see the second goal,.
Jeboteeeeeee even Split went red today! If Zadar goes red, the country is dead
the start time is confirmed. Blame the websites for having the incorrect times.
game is at 8:15 Zagreb time. Now, you do the math to figure out what time that is at your location.
@majstore
I can’t believe the issue with the start time. Only croatians will find a way to butcher a start time. I mean u look at 5 different websites all 5 say a different thing. I dont get it!
good video of Bogut. one question, did he get injured during the interview?
@Denis great Bogut video, thanks, definitely a good dude!

@majstore
Hvala.
On “theScore” website, the game start time is listed as 3:00 pm EST. Does the game not start @ 2:15 EST?

Hey, Colin O’ Haravic, what were you saying about the Penguins? Don’t argue with someone who has been watching hockey for 47 years.
Mandzukic to stay in Munich:

It pains me to say it, but FUCK CROATIA.
They suck more jew EU cock than any country I’ve seen.
Ante B including Srbija as a part of Croatia… confirmation that you yanks are a bunch of jugos.
If Dalmacija is the srce then Zagreb is the brain, Lika the hairy back, Istra the armpit and Slavonija the balls, naturally with Srbija as the supak

I watched the first hour of Bordeaux-Evian; Sertic played all the free kicks and some corner for Bordeaux, and made a “help pass” for the 2nd goal (with free kick). He had 6/10 by “Foot Mercato”.
Tako Dalmacija is the real Capitol
Dalmacija is the real Capitol.
Hajduk zivi Vječno
I’ve heard Banja Luka because it truly was geographically the heart of Croatia. The OP Original Poglavnik wanted Banja Luka instead of Zagreb. It would’ve been nice for Zagreb to stay Zagrebacki instead of today where it looks like a cobanin won the lottery and decided to throw money around.
I’ve heard elder Hercegovici say that when the borders were drawn up they would have loved it if Sarajevo was the capital of Hrvatska and not Zagreb.
Also, lots of photos of the Mostar bridge hang on the walls in Hercegovci’s homes so it obviously means something. My dad used to tell me that he was one of the only people he knew that could dive from that bridge.
probably both…..there is a growing consensus among people in Cro that hrvati in BiH should stop looking to ZG for help and instead focus more on Sarajevo and the local govt and what they can do to improve their own situation.
Bosna is a fucked up country led by a puppet master.
@ Ziva
But would that burden opinion be valid or is it the opinion that has been planted into peoples heads?
@Elvis…..most hrvati in Cro don’t care any more or really pay attention to the hrvati in BiH. They would consider the hrvati from BiH a burden if it ever came to the point where HB became part of Croatia proper. That’s is not my opinion of them, but I think that would be the opinion of the majority. I think. And, yes I’m sure the EU powers rather have RS remain part of BiH than become part of Serbia. They know that if that were to happen the hrvati in BiH would immediatly make noise to be part of Croatia proper.
And another thing….that bridge…..what does it represent to Croatians? Oppression and genocide so why should we ever care about it. Blow it out again!
“Herceg Bosna 6” I think I found the name of my new band.
Ziva, are u sure of that. You don’t think the EU scum will try to bind us with the Mujos? They cannot survive unless they become a Turkish commonwealth like Puerto Rico is to the US.
again I agree with Ziva
Again I have to ask. If you see the guys are forgetting something then why don’t YOU do something about it and write an article?
It’s all a sham in my opinion. I bet you those guys will be released soon. The Hague is trying everything in their power to prosecute Tudman and Susak that they will convict innocents like Gotovina, Markac and the Herceg Bosna 6. Justice will prevail, it’s only a matter of time. To say Praljak was at fault for blowing up the bridge in Mostar is like saying RS is a Catholic country.
RS will not become part of Serbia.
But, I’ll play along…….If or when RS does become part of Serbia, then the hrvati in BiH (mostly Herzegovina) will be in position to be part of hrvatska.
@Nepo
We can always do something. The Serbs and their republic have weather the storm and will not submit. RS will become a part of Serbia. When this happens where does it leave us?
Yeah good luck with that offer LOL. And isn’t the Sun tabloid-ish and often not quite credible?
Anonymous says:
“Josè Mourinho want to sign back to London the midfielder of Real Madrid, Luka Modric. According to The Sun, the Portuguese coach would be ready to offer almost 30 million euros for him”
Thoughts?
I agree Ziva… and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. I would add Hrvatska got screwed over as well as those areas if not most of that country should be part of Hrvatska. But back to your point this is a sports site!
Ziva Istina says:
pussies????for what. This is a fucken sports website. Go ahead and pay tribute to anyone you want.
Hrvati in BiH got screwed over big time. We all know that.
They all stole money….HDZ, all of them…..
@Elvis…..considering most hrvati in the diaspora would have to google his name to find out who he is, I’m guessing there wont be much interest. He is more for the academic crowd.
Rumor that Tomislav Sunić will be making a speaking tour soon in the US. Any Hrvati interested?
Hey Ziva how much money did Mate Boban steal?
“Josè Mourinho want to sign back to London the midfielder of Real Madrid, Luka Modric. According to The Sun, the Portuguese coach would be ready to offer almost 30 million euros for him”
Thoughts?
pussies????for what. This is a fucken sports website. Go ahead and pay tribute to anyone you want.
Hrvati in BiH got screwed over big time. We all know that.
You guys really are a bunch of pussies. How about some tribute to our brothers in Herceg Bosna?
Also, Munich just extended Pizarro’s contract. If anybody is going to be leaving, it’s Gomez. He’ll go to a middle of the table club in Germany or England and play out his remaining years there. Don’t be surprised to see a midfielder leave with Gomez as well. They’re stacked at the position like Madrid, and they’ll be able to get top dollar for any of their guys in the middle.
Every team is going to be a step down from Bayern. They just won the Champions League. Dortmund is not a bad team to play for whatsoever. Klopp is an amazing coach, and Mandzukic still has A LOT of great talent to play with there.
That being said, I don’t think Lewandowski comes to Munich this season. The rumors have been going on for months now, and there is still 0 movement. Even Klopp said he hasn’t heard about any arrangement. When Gotze was being traded, he came out and admitted that he knew what was going on. All this rumor nonsense is Lewandowski’s agent trying to position his player. Lewandowski wants a trophy, and the leverage to bargain for a better deal.
if Lewandowski comes to Bayern, Mario should leave be it to Dortmund or elsewhere to ensure he gets quality playing time
Now we know why the game in Medjugorje was cancelled. The Croats there would have gone nuts at the game with banners etc etc. I reject any notion that we are to be forced to live with Muslims. I also reject those who would bind us under communism and those that would bind us to the east. Croatia belongs to the West but not the EU. Europe Awake!!!

If Bayern bring in Lewandowski and want Mario out he should go to a high profile club…while he still can…Dormound is a step back and will be the start of his declining career
I think Mario is better in a good/middle but in the start; than being still in Bayern but on the bench.
Sertic is playing tonight “Finale de la coupe de France” vs ETG, which is a veeeeery middle/low team.
