Croatian striker Ivan Klasnić has had a Jekyll and Hyde reputation during his professional career. On one side of the spectrum he absolutely owns the German BundesLiga (when healthy) with his club Werder Bremen. He has 47 goals in 142 games since 2001 for the German club. On the other side, Ivan has only scored 8 goals in 28 chances for Croatia since 2004. Granted he was out an entire year with kidney problems, that’s still only 2 goals per year.
Is it team chemistry? Or can it be the cool German weather? I’m sure schnitzel is out of the question. Klasnić just plays better in Germany. Why? I don’t know. But if he can duplicate his results for Croatia this summer what he regularly does for Bremen; I wouldn’t be worried in the least.
Here’s footage from the Werder Bremen-Schalke game on 4/12/08. Klasnić scores 2 beautiful goals! The first goal is 4:41 into the clip and the second goal where he ‘megs’ (goes between the legs) a defenseman and the goalie happens at the 5:55 mark. Enjoy!

Sorry, I don’t have a clue about any websites showing the EURO this summer. Simple solution…. Get cable!
Presently, I am contemplating whether or not to break the bank and make the trip to Klagenfurt.
Don’t miss the EURO. I’m guessing, the games will be shown in Australia in the weeeeeee hours of the morning.
Your only option is to book a flight to Austria. Austria, Australia, same family…..
hey everyone

thanks
just in a small follow up….klasnic convrted a 82′ penalty against hansa rostock on wednesday….bremen won 2-1….must be the schnitzel
I will give you what I think is my reasons why Ivan Klasnic is better in germany.
Werder Bremens team is full of players, good to great players, they have two tremendously huge defenders (per Mertesacker and Naldo) who know alot with the ball and can score just as well as pasing the ball, Torsten Frings, Clemens fritz, Tim Borowski and to top it off he has Boubacar Sanogo up front with him and not to mention Diego.
But this goes deeper than players, the other reason, and very important reason, like it was said, Croatia doesnt know how to use Ivan, everytime I saw him play they use him for the exact same thing as they use Ivica, to run up and down up and down and maybe get lucky, what croatia needs to do in training is draw a box from the opposing goal to just out of the penalty box and put Ivan in there and not move at all, make him the number 9.
Reasons why Klasnić performs better in Germany:
1) Service… Bremen or Croatian midfield? up until EURO2008 qualifying an obvious Bremen… hopefully, this year will be different with Luka Modrić running the point
2) Former Bremen coach, forget his name, cried, “It makes me sad that Croatia don’t know how to use Klasnić.”
3) Lets’ face it, Ivan was born in Germany… It might be the German air, schnitzel, Nuremberg Sausage, or German Hefenweizen which makes Ivan different from the rest of the Croats..
4) Bottom line…. I can name only a handful of players that aren’t legends–(i.e. Maradona, Pele, Suker, Klinsmann) that had great club and national team records..
As of right now, Klasnić will be remembered as “killer” for Werder Bremen not Croatia!
Good Post Ante!
