In his first season at Real Madrid, Luka Modrić will not see the Champions League Final as Real Madrid go down 4-3 (aggregate) to Borussia Dortmund, despite beating the German club 2-0 Tuesday night in Madrid. Both sides missed key chances in the match before Frenchman Karim Benzema broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute.Ramos added one more late but it wasn’t meant to be. Modrić played well, stringing along many passes from the midfield, and drew numerous key fouls in the offensive third. However it looks as if there will only be one Croatian at Wembley this year: Mario Mandžukić.
Bayern Munich take a 4-0 first leg lead into Barcelona Wednesday night.
Here’s a great tactical analysis of Modric’s play against Dortmund. His influence was huge last night.

Modric does have one more meaningful game this season. This is the Copa del Ray final against Atheltico Madrid. Victory would make sure they don’t go trophyless.
Well, he was playing like the biggest bust a few months ago. No issues with his play now. Modric doesn’t play a meaningful game again until September. La Liga is decided, Real Madrid is out of Europe and he will miss the game against Scotland. I just want him ready forthe qualifiers in Sept.
@ Poglavnik.
Agreed the representatizija are the real winners.
Modric has gotten tougher through all the adversity he went through. Can you imagine being called the biggest bust a couple months back. Pizdari!
We need to take hold of destiny and beat Belgium at home and dominate our wcq group.
Mandzukic puts one in at the Nou Camp today!
Agree Modric was the only player in the pitch trying to use his head instead of made long passes and run like forrest gump.
I agree with Chupe and Matesic, Luka was the best Real player on the pitch today! And they made it interesting there at the end, if they only got one in the first half
i said it at half time and i still think it (as do some others on this board). for the most part madrid was just bombing long passes. i thought the movement was much more affective when modric gets the ball in the middle and gets things going
I see Mourinho taking a least a couple of “his guys” wherever he goes thus freeing up time for Modric.
Modric def. seems a better player now than when he was at Spurs.
Just training at Madrid has made him a better player and it benefits the Reprezentacija.
@ Mishko
Agreed.
I think he has gotten even a bit sharper then he was in the EPL.
My concern about a return to the EPL is that it is a lot of wear and tear on the body.
Curious if the new manager at Madrid will create the flow through Modric?
@ Matesic, Modric has shown his quality, what I find funny is the English press keep saying he’s had a tough time in Real, but the reality is that they want him back in the EPL playing for City or United and he’s fit in well for Real.
Real had it in their hands today, but with shit pass from Maria and Ozil and for fuck sake finishes from RC7 they didn’t deserve to move on.
Modric looked fantastic today!
This game could of been 3-0 for Madrid in the first 15 minutes.
Can you imagine the press if Modric missed those 100% chances.
Call me a homer but is it just me or when ever Madrid play through Modric they create quality movement.
Prayer Mandzukic scores tomorrow at puts the tie to bed.
Hrvoje Čale has finally found a new club. Next season he will play for Beveren-Waasland in Belgian highest division. The club finished about 12th in the Belgian League.
Way more important than Real Madrid :
The family of Croatian tennis star Ivo Karlovic have released a statement to provide an update on his medical condition. Reports on the weekend suggested that Karlovic was in hospital with a mild stroke or brain infection. However, the family said the correct diagnosis was viral meningitis.
The Croatian star;s wife issued the statement which said, “Ivo did not have a stroke, as some outlets have stated; rather, he has viral meningitis (inflammation of the meninges of the brain). We ask for privacy during his recovery process. We thank everyone for their support and well wishes.”
Karlovic is currently ranked no. 134 in the world and has been in the top 15 before. He has a 3-6 record on the tour this season and withdrew from last week’s Challenger event in Savannah due to illness.
Modric should not be called a flop he played well in the 2013 part of the season once he got the ball rolling and all those spiks from spain should shut the fuck up and thank Wolf gang stark for euro 2012.
Damn if madrid took care a business in the first half they’d be set.
Modric best madrid player today true CM.
Modric breaking ankles baby.
WOW. If anyone had money on Madrid today they gotta be biting their nails right now.
@Elcroato, yes you’re absolutely correct. Modric looks great. Ozil pisses me off
SEE YA LATER MADRID.
some incredibly wasted opportunities for madrid in the first 15 minutes. its understandable that they have to play rushed but it looks like they are just trying to bomb the ball over the top. play through modric in the middle and then forward!
Real Madrid is full of egotists. Modric keeps on making himself available but his team mates decide to just try and outrun Dortmund’s defense. D.Maria being the worst offender. Then they play mostly long balls hopelessly losing them. Mou should have played Khedira with this tactic. He’d have more defensive bite and wouldn’t miss Modric’s creativity as he isn’t taking advantage of it anyway..
Jose.M is a mastermind!
Ask Luka about the diffrerence brtween Redknapp and Mourinio, he had never even heard of the tactics that Jose was talking about before he got there, the punto knows what he is talking about!
Modric will stay with the best club in the world, find his place and jebat opposition!
I dont care who wins, I just hope Modric plays well, and i really hope he gets the hell outta madrid and goes back to BPL
@Rob I , i think 3-0, Luka and Chris can maybe do something here!
Madrid 5 nil winners.
