2010 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUPSTottenham face off against the current European champions while Eduardo returns to the Emirates for the first time as Shakhtar face Arsenal. Bayern Munich have an easy route to the knockout round while Rakitić and Lovren face each other. Should be another great Champions League, especially with so many Croatians involved.
CROUCHIE BAGS A HAT TRICKThe Crottenham Hotspur overcame a 3-2 first leg defeat Wednesday night as they destroyed Young Boys 4-0 to progress to the Champions League group stage. Luka Modrić did not play as he rests an injury while Niko Kranjčar was subbed into the game 81 minutes through. Vedran Ćorluka played the full match in the rain to keep the Swiss opposition scoreless.
Yahoo Sports is also reporting that Tottenham will sign goalie Stipe Pletikosa to a one year loan with the North London club. With current Tottenham #1 Heurelho Gomes injuring himself Wednesday night against Young Boys, we all knew what manager Harry Redknapp’s next move was. That would make it four Croatians at Tottenham and 11 total in the Champions League group stage this year.
Ćorluka, Modrić, Kranjčar, Pletikosa, Olić, Pranjić, Rakitić, Srna, Eduardo, Lovren and Jelavić would all play at least six games against Europe’s Elite. I don’t remember a time where more Croatians played in starting roles during a Champions League campaign. However, Nikica Jelavić’ future lies in the hands of Aston Villa. Jelavić can only play Champions ball if Aston Villa boots Rapid Vienna out of the Europa League.
THANKS TO JP AND ZACH G. FOR THE BREAKING NEWS!
@Zach…..why, because i am truthful and not a homer. What have we seen from the brazilian born croat since his injury. the answer is nothing…. the dude can't put two consecutive months together without a small injury.
Gavranovic needs to get a loan move to another Bundesliga club before the deadline..
Bodul also needs to switch his club.
Congrats to Hajduk. Europa Liga is where they should always be. I am not sure that either Dinamo or Hajduk has played particularly well. I think the opponents were not too difficult. But gain entrance to Europa Liga is the rightful place for both of them.
you are obnoxious
The brazilian born croat wont do much against arsenal. Easy group for Arsenal.
We need him to be healthy and deliver for the national team.
yeah Zach, the Shakhtar/Arsenal games will be quite interesting. 🙂
Makes much more sense why Jelavic wouldnt want to play in the 1st leg now.
good article

Bodul was at Sparta Rotterdam and i think they got relegated which is pretty bad. It'd be good to see Bodul leave altogether and see if he can replicate Nikica Jelavic path to success at Rapid Vienna. Jelavic was in the same situation Bodul is in now and it all turned around.
Has Pletikosa actually moved. I've heard nothing of this in England. Is anyone else gonna move. I see Croats are pretty bored of yet another muted transfer of Dario Srna to Chelsea. Looks like everyone just thinking they'll believe it when they see it.
Dario Knezevic would be the only other one. He started the first Livorno game in Serie B and they lost 4-0. Not sure what's the best thing for Knezevic really.
Shakhtar v Arsenal: Eduardo!!!!!
Romanian club CFR Cluj also has Sasa Bjelanovic…
@ Davor
Bodul is not even in the ajax A squad as far a i know , he was kind of a flop last year at twente tbh .
finally officially signed up after 3 years… better late then never.. ante and dennis hope you guys are happy now after breaking ball over 3 years …lol
@ Andrej
Not gonna happen
Technically there is more Croats like Gavranovic (Schalke) Darko Bodul (Ajax)Darijo Vujicevic (Twente)all young players probably won't get any playing time at this level but nonetheless worth mentioning…Pletikosa is gonna be in CL whether he goes to Tottenham or not, but in either case he won't get playing time sadly
I heard since Hamburg isn't playing in Europe that Petric may go to Wolfsburg. But since the Spurs are in CL and will be without Defoe for a bit, I think they will be looking for a new striker. It would be amazing if Petric signed with them
looks like we better cheer for Villa tommorow

Hajduk and Dinamo games spread out nicely tommorow.
@Michael
Ajax would not make a group of death. Marseille isnt great either.
Hardest Group possible: Chelsea, Real Madrid, Schalke, Rubin Kazan
Easiest: AC Milan, Panathinaikos, Kobenhavn, Zilina
Breaking News …!
Pletikosa to Crottenham on loan.

Some interesting notes:
1) Real Madrid is in Pot 2
2) Spurs, Ajax, Schalke, Marseille in Pot 3 – Any of these clubs can make a Group of Death
3) 4 Clubs make their CL debuts. MSK Zilina, Bursaspor, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, FC Twente
Corluka, Modric, Kranjcar, Olic, Pranjic, Rakitic, (Possibly Srna if he signs for Chelsea), Lovren all in CL.
