FIFA.com has confirmed that Dinamo Zagreb has signed Argentine striker, Guillermo Suarez, for an undisclosed amount from his former club, Tigre. This is a good pick up for Dinamo who just lost Luka Modrić to Tottenham.
Dinamo Zagreb has been very successful into turning their star players into top-tier transfers for the big leagues in Europe. In recent years they have managed to transfer Vedran Čorluka to Manchester City, Eduardo da Silva to Arsenal and of course Luka Modrić to Tottenham. So if you’re asking yourself why this kid would go to Dinamo Zagreb from the top Argentine league, this would be my guess. If he plays well and Dinamo promotes him like they have the others, Suarez can be playing in Spain or England in a couple seasons. But Dinamo also wants to make a decent run into Champions League this season. They are always one of the stronger qualifying teams.
Dobro Došli to Croatia Guillermo Suarez!!!
And just on a side note, Croatia dropped 2 spots in Fifa rankings to #15. But you already know my thoughts on the Fifa World Rankings so I won’t go on.
By the way folks, Fredes from Independiente in Argentina is of interest to Dinamo for more than just the obvious. It has been revealed that Fredes’ has Croatian roots… one of his grandparents… I think his grandmother. It has already been reported in local newspapers in Argentina.
Monzon is an excellent defender who attacks well and has size, speed and reads the game very well. He also has a blistering shot from long distance. I saw Monzon play three games in Argentina and he stuck out like a sore thumb being the best player on the pitch. But I don’t think Boca would let him go for cheap. He’s already gained the attention of some big clubs in Europe.
As far as Fredes is concerned, I also saw him play and my advise. Stay away… he’s an OK player and definitely not worth even 5 million. And he’s also been quoted in the local news as being indifferent to his Croatian roots whereas Dario Cvitanich, this year’s Argentine league leading goalscorer has never hid his great desire to be called up by the Croatian National team. Everybody will get the chance to see Dario a bit more as Ajax of Holland will have his services this coming season.
Monzon from Boca would probably be worth about 3.5 million in a transfer to Dinamo… 5 million doesn’t make sense as of yet. Fredes is another Daniel Bilos in the making. Lots of hype but so so as a player.
There are many players of Croatian decent in South America but the problem with most is that they are advised by agents, managers and clubs who are only interested in the bottom line…
For example, Independiente just sold the tank Denis, very good striker for good money to Europe. That’s how they function in South America, clubs from Europe come and suddenly a player who is making 15 thousand bucks a month is worth now 10 million dollars according to Independiente. Corruption in South America is a way of life and the Presidents and clubs board members always take European clubs hostage, they steal all the transfer money and the club remains bankrupt. No accountability or responsibility.
But take it from me, Fredes is a paper tiger. Dario Cvitanich has proven his ability in Argentina already and hopes to do the same at Ajax and hopefully will get a call from Slaven.
There is also a Croatian defender plying his trade with a lower level club in Argentina who is excellent, a blonde haired kid who was never pushed by any agent or manager… left footed. I saw him play… he never makes mistakes. Better than Fredes. Dinamo should be looking at him instead. He already has a Croatian passport.
hey mladen, you type with an argentine accent and you know a lot about South American soccer….how is that?….but thank you for your loyal posts…it will not go un-noted…
The argentinean defender dinamo is looking at is Monzon from Boca Juniors, good defender, Dinamo Level, No News on Independiente’s Fredes, only that Comparada (Independiente’s president) put a 10 million price tag on him and Dinamo offered 5, I think 10 million is way too much but 5 millions should be a great deal for independiente, not so much for dinamo, the kid just goes around and around never shoots, never goes straight to the goal, the guy is worse than a merry go round….Dinamo Take him!
